As of fall 2016 now OPEN YEAR ROUND A historic 9,500 square feet lake home for family reunions, special occasions, organization retreats, and group vacations on a beautiful 3,585-acre lake. This old (1928)hotel has been renovated touching on nearly everything on and in the building. Your renting the whole building. The kitchen, bar, living room, dinning room, kids room etc. The kitchen and bar are yours to stock with your favorite foods and liquor/beer. It is conveniently located at 745 Highway 45, Pelican Lake, Wisconsin. The hotel is listed in both National and Wisconsin Historical Register.
Over a hundred years of history: The hotel was originally built in 1898. It was first remodeled in 1912 with the addition of bricks. It was destroyed by fire in 1926 and was later rebuilt with the same frames of the building in 1928 which is now the current look of the hotel.
For decades the hotel was run as a hotel and restaurant and was the center of activities in the old days.
Home for many families: There's an instant feeling of home once you enter into the facility (We rented the Hotel for our own wedding in 2010. We liked it so much we bought it.).
The kitchen was once a commercial kitchen which is big and fully equipped with appliances, kitchen utensils, and dinnerware. Every room is spacious enough for big groups. The dining area seats 50 people, and the bar seats about 20 people at the bar and tables. The building is about 9500 square feet. The outdoor ground is huge enough to park cars, recreational vehicles, and tents. There will be nobody there except the renters, so you would feel the privacy of your own home.
Some of our Families have been making memories in the hotel for 20+ years for their annual family reunions.
Fun in the lake: The hotel is situated on the 3600 acre Pelican Lake. It has 330 ft of lakefront. It is facing west, so you'll enjoy the exquisite sunset. There's a pier in the facility to park boats or to just sit on the bench to enjoy watching activities on the lake. Sandy beach is just few minutes away. Swimming, kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing, tubing, and water skiing are the most common fun to do in the lake. The town is also ideal for bike riding if you like riding under the canopy of trees.
The town is quiet, so if you are someone getting tired of the city noise, then this place is ideal for you.
I and my husband Steve got married in 2010. We are now raising two beautiful babies Kal and Kate.
Steve had been Airline Captain for American Airlines for 27 years. He was also an Air Force instructor pilot for 6 years before started flying commercial airlines. I have never seen anyone so happy flying and that he would say something like 'I enjoy my job so much, I should be paying them instead of them paying me!'. He always came home with an ear-to-ear smile (well, most of it because he was just happy to see his wife :-)). He retired in 2011.
I am of a Filipino origin born and raised in the Philippines. I was collage professor teacher in the Philippines before I came to America in 2007. I worked at Target as sales associate and became Department Trainer in three months. I left Target to work at the Hilton Chicago so I would be closer to Robert Morris University where I took my Masters degree in Master in Information System. I graduated in 2010. I and Steve got married shortly after my graduation. We then bought the hotel after our wedding .
Julie Artus purchased this lodge in 2010
There is something something very special about this hotel. It's structure is the only high end commercial looking building in town. The hotel is rich with history, almost all local people have stories to tell about it. Lots of them grew up getting in and out of the hotel, buying their groceries, even first cigarettes, first booze, etc etc. Some have fond memories how much they love their ice cream from the grocery which is now 'kids' room'. Pelican Lake changed over the years and the hotel had witnessed it all.
The hotel was built on the original foundation of the Beach Inn hotel that was built in 1898. Beach Inn, which then later became Pelican Lake Hotel, was then the first resort in the area and was the center of community affairs for decades until 1970. It went to different owners and served different purpose until Gene and Shirley Kaczkowski owned it for over 20 years. They then transformed the building to be home for family reunions which we keep.
This building has been a significant landmark in town. It is our privilege to restore the hotel back to its former glory. And we are very proud to say that she's now standing proud and beautifully always embracing anyone that will make experience that last a lifetime.
This is not a typical hotel. This is more of a big cabin, like your own home away from home. You will get the key and get the whole place to yourself.
The sunset is exquisite. The view is breathtaking, peaceful and quiet. This hideaway is perfect to escape the noisy buzz of big cities. Plus you get to stay in a certified historical place listed in both the National and Wisconsin Register of Historical Places.
Our family has stayed here for 5 years in a row! WE LOVE IT HERE! !! It is like home when you arrive. The many square tables in the dining area means lots of room for our family of going on 50 people now! Tables for games and puzzles and everyone to eat dinner at the same time. We label bathrooms for girls or guys upstairs. Campfires by sunset and the large pier with 4 benches has lots of room for hanging out on the lake as well. Every year is a new update surprise which is always fun to see. Large flat front yard for volleyball and kids bikes, yard games, skateboarding etc. Highly recommend this historical hotel for week long stays!
This was our first stay at the Artus Pelican Lake Hotel, but it won't be our last. We convened with 10 families from the kids school and stayed the week. It was so much fun spending time with everyone and the hotel was just perfect for our needs. We had so much room to spread out between the large comfortable seating areas, dining room and bar. The kitchen was large and came complete with everything we needed. Julie and Steve were gracious hosts and were available for anything we needed (which was not much) Musky Mart 100 yards away has just about everything you need. We had so much fun, I would highly recommend staying here.
Just spent the week with our family at the Pelican Lake Hotel. Over 40 of us were so comfortable with plenty of room for everyone. We loved the large dining area, which became a game room between meals. The playroom was great for the little ones. TVs everywhere with cable for the teens and twenties. The bar became our "internet cafe." The lakefront is beautiful, and watching the sunset every night was a highlight. 19 bedrooms is not something you'll find too often. It was perfect. The kitchen had plenty of room for cooking with almost anything you'd need. Julie and Steve were so available for every need we had, but still allowed us to have the place without checking in, unless we contacted them. Then they responded right away. It has so much character from it's historic feel and furniture. A cabin feel in a big facility. We had such a great family time. Already booked next year!
Our large family (50+) have been vacationing here for the past five years and having a wonderful time. We love the fact that we have our own bedrooms upstairs along with three bathrooms, separate from all the living space which provides a very quiet environment. The young adults enjoy the bar at night, the women enjoy the huge fully equipped kitchen and dining room overlooking the lake, and everyone enjoys the outdoors and lake. We have three guitar players and a couple pianists in the family so evening singalongs around the campfire are wonderful, especially watching the beautiful sunsets. All our families each take one night to prepare dinner and we have a theme for each dinner (Mexican, Greek, Italian, etc.) and dress accordingly. Some of our more creative people prepare after dinner games that are hilarious for everyone to watch and participate in. The fun you have does require some advance preparation and thought but that is what makes the memories so vivid. We rent a pontoon that seats 14-16 and cruise around the lake, jumping out for a cool dip on the sandy area just a short ride away. On hot summer nights swimming off the dock is a great treat. I love getting up in the morning to a hot pot of coffee and sitting in the dining room near a window watching the lake as others come down sleepy eyed and ready to join the days activities. It's just a great place for a large group/family to enjoy time together!
I stayed at this hotel with a large group of friends who came back to Wisconsin from all around the country. It was a "reunion" in honor of my friends who moved to Hawaii a year ago. It was the prefect setting for us thirty-somethings to kick back and relax, but would be a great hosting facility for any array of people looking to have an intimate setting on a large scale. They building may be a little rough around the edges, but you can already see the progress the current owners are making in returning it to the heyday of lakefront hotel getaways. I manage a bed and breakfast in downtown Madison, WI, and along with all of my friends, truly enjoyed the laid back history this place had to offer. It was a great weekend with many things to tell, but rather than reading my story, I would suggest simply having you own experience with the nostalgic Northwoods gem.
