I'm an actor/ musician living in New York City. I have been in NYC for the past 5 years. I grew up in the Portage Lakes area and always loved being there. I do get home to see my family and stay at the house every few months.
Eli Williams purchased this house in 1993
In 2000 I decided to upgrade the bathroom upstairs in the hallway by the bedrooms. I ended up re-modeling the entire house. I ripped down walls and the ceiling, put in 7 skylights and all new appliances.
It's beautiful in ALL-SEASONS. During boating months it's a perfect location as you can dock a boat (owned or rented) at the private dock located on the property.
The view and setting is blissful. I've concluded I have the best spot in Ohio to sit and enoy a glass of sauvignon blanc!
We were in town for a family funeral and needed a place to host family and friends. Your lakeside home was perfect for us. It is close to everything, food, shopping and activities. It is a home that we would consider using again.
The best part of this home is that it is by a beautiful lake! We loved to have breakfast at the home and watch the mist rising from the lake, the fall colors, boats floating past and the abundant wildlife. The lake was also magical at night with various night lights along the shore shimmering on the water. Bedrooms upstairs are comfortable and there are several choices of where to sleep downstairs. I guess the issues are that the water from the faucets have an odor. Eli has remedied this problem by installing a reverse osmosis faucet for drinking/cooking. Then the cleanup expected before leaving is a bit more than normal. We had a good time at this house!

My husband, our 4 children, and I rented this home for a long weekend. We were looking for a getaway with a lakefront view and stumbled upon this on VRBO. We didn't event know what the Portage Lakes were, but we thought we'd give it a go. The house is very much as the pictures indicate. The view alone makes it worth it. The house itself is charming; a little dated and kitschy (my kids were thrilled with the fish themed bathroom) but everything was in full working order and the home itself is very well laid out and comfortable. We rented a pontoon boat both days and had a blast on the water. Plenty of fun family restaurants really close by and convenient. Eli, the home owner, could not have been more helpful or responsive.
We had a great time at the house and perfect size for a few families. The house was a perfect location to get Cleveland and Canton for Hall of Fame weekend. Would highly recommend for any family. The backyard was great right up against the lake.
We loved staying in this home. It was clean for the most part, I'm a little on the OCD side so I see things most people do not care about. It's right on the lake, we enjoyed having coffee next to the lake every morning. We brought our kayaks and put in right there. We rented a pontoon for a day, extremely reasonably priced. Fishing was great as well.
The kitchen was well equipped. We had 2 families, 4 adults and 4 kids, this house was big enough that we did not get in each other's way.
Customer service is impeccable! There was a huge tree branch that fell on the roof the morning before we arrived which cut the statelet feed to the house. With 4 kids that was a problem, but we figured we would just connect to the wifi and the kids would watch Netflix. We called the house manager and she walked me through trouble shooting the direct tv ( at this point we did not know about tree branch). When that did not work the guys looked around outside and found the downed branch, I texted the pictures to the house manager. Within at the most 30 minutes the parents of the man who owns the home arrived with a tree service (this was a Sunday) they looked it over, came back Monday morning and removed the tree. We were in awe of that response.
I only have one minor issue, the amount of cleaning involved we thought was a little excessive. We have rented homes like this before and usually we take out trash, gather sheets, wash towels and have them in dryer, and make sure the kitchen did not have excessive clean up. Added to this list is sweeping floors and wiping down the bathrooms. With 4 kids we were cleaning the entire morning we were due to leave. We would rather pay a cleaning deposit and not have to do most of that. Gathering sheets, washing towels and cleaning up the kitchen ( wiping out micro, cleaning out our food from fridge, and wiping counters and stove is reasonable) but this is not a deal breaker for us. We loved it and had a great time. We will come back.
Thank you so much! Can't wait to come back.
