Kentucky Natural Bridge State Park and the Red River Gorge is down the road for those obsessed with arches and cliff climbing. There is easy access to Natural Stone Arches sculpted by 70 million years of wind and water and towering cliffs encircling steep, forested slopes and narrow stream valley called the 'Clifty Wilderness' by cliff climbers and naturalists. The hiking trails are Easy, Moderate and Strenuous covering hundreds of miles and maintained for hikers of all ages. Yet, if you are looking for the primitive, less traveled trails, you will not be disappointed. Note: The Gorge is a National Natural Landmark and is managed year round by US Forest Service.

About Kenneth and Sheila Brown

We enjoy living in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Although we are not totally isolated, traffic jams are rare. The air seems fresher and clearer. We enjoy traveling on the 2-lane blacktop road (KY 11) lined with trees and wildflowers; a couple times a wildcat has leaped across our route and scampered up the roadside hillside; too fast to get a picture, but a memory was created. One early morning, Ken rounded a corner about a mile from here and a black bear was running ahead of him in his lane. Ken was braking and the car was almost sitting on the bear's butt when finally, it veered off into the forest. In the winter, we feed the wild turkeys. Turkeys have a hard time surviving bad winters. There are days that we are delighted with things that happen in our environment; this is a good thing for us - to be delighted.

Kenneth and Sheila Brown purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Kenneth and Sheila Brown chose Campton

Sheila's Tale: My mother and I would ride a taxi to Natural Bridge and spend the day. She packed our food in a red plastic carrying cooler with 'Coke' written on the front. Home canned green beans, and fried potatoes, corn bread fritters wrapped in a dish cloth, a mason jar of water and a bunch of green onions were our food for the day. We hiked the trails and swam in a lake with turtles and fishes nibbling on our toes. The taxi would pick us up in the evening and take us home to Irvine, KY, 30 miles away. I learned to appreciate trees and wildflowers and the beauty of nature in the Natural Bridge, Red River Gorge and Danial Boone Forest. My heart has been softened to nature's beauty throughout the world because of my visits to this area. And, I brought my daughters, their friends and my Girl Scout Troop here. We camped out and did all the things that I did in childhood and more. Further, I brought my grandchildren here. Where else could I retire but to the place that heart-felt memories of my mother teaching me about nature and the natural world and, me, in turn, teaching my daughters and grandchildren to cook a meal on an open fire; and further, helping young girls experience the self awareness that almost everyone has bad hair in the morning. My heart is here because what I value is here: all kinds of natural beauty. I am here and I welcome you to visit us at Kentucky Wildflowers, LLC. You're gonna love it.

Ken's Tale: It has been my life-long dream to live in a log cabin on the hill in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. We live on the farm year round.

What makes this cabin unique

We have 150 acres to hike. There are trails cleared for convenience and enjoyment; the trees and flowers can be enjoyed during nature walks. Also, you can invent your own trail if you want to get off the beaten path. Best of all, a creek runs through this property; the creek has never been completely dry. Some of the holes are deep enough to get really wet. The property is called Wildcat Hollow and is surrounded by cliffs. A cool breeze blows all summer down the hollow across the creek. At night, birds get tuned up and sing. You can see the stars when the clouds are gone and it is so dark at night.

What a wonderful, far from austere Cabin. Every comfort, but still a rustic feel. Thank you

Owner's Response: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We are thankful for this Indiana family of seven. They celebrated their son's brief holiday leave (from the Army) staying in Lillie's Cub Cabin; we send a BIG thank you to their son for his service to our Country. This family arrived in three vehicles (2 Jeeps and 1 truck) ready for off road trails. News: Hollerwood Park is an off-road trail system for Jeeps, ATV's, horses and other off terrain vehicles. Hollerwood is open for business. Indiana family, you and your son will be in our prayers. Be safe. Be careful. God bless. And, HAPPY TRAILS. Kenneth and Sheila Brown

Great cabin for climbers if you’re looking for comfortable R&R in between sends!!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed in Lillie’s Cub Cabin at Ken and Sheila’s property (July 2018 and September 2018). It is easily accessible and quite private, though not remote in terms of getting there. A great location if you are there to climb in RRG, with routes located within mere minutes of the cabin. Sheila and Ken are very gracious hosts, and have always been very helpful to lend local knowledge, answer questions, and address any minor issues that may arise (restocking a supply of firewood). Highly recommend this place and these hosts.

Owner's Response: We love guests like Michael. He has a complicated life in A BIG CITY, and rests and relaxes here at Lillie's Cub Cabin, when he is not climbing rocks and cliffs in the Red River Gorge Areas. Michael brings about five friends with him when he visits us at Wildcat Hollow, our property, about 150 acres of woods and trails. Michael, Kenneth and I keep it simple; he lets us know what he needs regarding lodging, amenities and any thing else that pops up unexpectedly, and we try to accommodate him. Michael is our guest; we are the host. Thank you, Michael, for choosing Lillie's Cub Cabin. We look forward to seeing you again. If you are interested in the Rugged Red Half Marathon, please make plans to participate. Again, thank you. Ken and Sheila Brown

Lillie's Cub Cabin is private and secluded if you want a romantic get-away. Lillie's Cabin is perfect for a family and friends to play games, hike Wildcat Hollow and let their hair down. Lillie’s Cub Cabin is an absolutely beautiful cabin that is extremely clean and well kept. Very peaceful location. Lots of fun area attractions within minutes. Ken and Sheila are so wonderful. If there were more folks like them in the world, it would be a much better place!!

Owner's Response: This couple celebrated their 1st and 5th wedding anniversary at Lillie's Cub Cabin. This year, the groom made all the reservations and surprised his bride with a trip to Wildcat Hollow; he hid the fishing poles in the trunk of the car and "MUM" was the word way ahead of their arrival. Let's just say that romance was in the air. Congratulations on your 5th Wedding Anniversary! And, for those of you, brides and grooms, who are looking for a romantic get-a-way, Lillie's Cub Cabin is for you. Ken and I loved this couple. Happy trails, Mr. and Mrs. S _ _ _ _ _.

Awesome Cabin and Awesome Owners!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful Cabin in private setting, yet close to all the main Natural Bridge attractions. Owners, Ken and Sheila, were fantastic to work with. They communicated with us early and frequently to ensure we had great directions and provide ideas for enjoying the Red River Gorge area. Lille Cub was one of four cabins we rented for a wedding party and was by far the nicest of all the cabins. Very well maintained cabin that appeared to be fairly new. Our only regret was that after our first night we had to trade cabins with other members of the wedding party, because they needed the extra sleeping space. We will definitely rent this cabin again for our next overnight adventure in the gorge.

Owner's Response: Welcome to Lillie's Cub Cabin and Congratulations on the marriage of your daughter. Your flexibility to change accommodations helped make all the transitions in lodging, dress rehearsals, dining events and all other wedding planning and organizing 110 percent successful. We loved having you as a family and all the soon-to-be in-laws and best men at Wildcat Hollow. Thank you for the wonderful review. Your note in the guest book about the hummingbirds feasting while you relaxed on the front porch swing was encouraging to us as we might add another feeder on the back porch. Please send pictures if available and we will post them on our website. We look forward to seeing you and family again. Sending best wishes, lots of love and prayers to you and family.
