Perfect shore spot

  • 5 of 5

Roger and Sandra's house is the perfect base for exploring the Cabot Trail. It retains its traditional charm but also has many welcome modern touches. It’s cozy and super-clean, and they were warm and welcoming hosts. From the deck you have a super view of the ocean -- and friends who pass by on the road — and you can walk to the Clucking Hen and several artisan shops. Thanks, Roger and Sandra!

Beautiful house on Cabot Trail

  • 4 of 5

Our family (children 5 and 8) stayed in the Buchanan House for four nights. It is very comfortable and well laid out. There is beautiful local beach (10 minute drive) with beautiful clear and warm(!) water, kelp, sandy bottom, lobsters! We took a local puffin trip replete with seals, and many birds. Our son loved it. The house is well equipped (laundry, full kitchen). Roger was wonderful and very responsive and we enjoyed perusing the local library in the hosue. There is no WiFi though the cafe across the street has one. On vacation, it was good to unplug. The national park is about 45 minutes away (and the only reason we gave the property 4 instead of 5 stars). We would recommend it!

Beautifully restored heritage home on the Cabot Trail

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this rental! It is perfectly situated on the Cabot Trail near a lovely restaurant/bakery and craft shops. Sandra and Roger were amazing hosts. The walk along the beach in front of their home was a vacation highlight for our family. The traffic didn't bother us at all. We closed the windows, turned on the fans and slept peacefully all night.

Wonderful Place, Well Equipped & Central Location!

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a 6 night stay at Roger & Sandra's fantastic Buchanan House, a beautifully restored Cape Breton farmhouse. Honestly, I could write an extremely long review praising this rental on so many aspects, including the wonderful hospitality of owners Sandra and Roger, but instead I'll simply say for location, amenities, and rental rate value, I'm uncertain we could have found a better "B & B" to stay at on the east shore of Cape Breton. Our children are already asking when we are going back and we haven't even arrived at our home. Some examples: a jar of Sandra's own preserves waiting for us when we arrived, fresh radishes out of Roger's garden and spot on advice for things to do. Reasonable drives to Ingonish, Baddeck, even Louisberg and Bay St. Lawrence! The kitchen is very well equipped, the layout very comfortable and Roger has an extensive DVD list you can choose from. Also, The Clucking Hen is a short 500 foot walk from the place for great eats, friendly staff and wifi. We couldn't have asked for a better place for our family of five!

Lovely, peaceful stay on a beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our three young ones (6,4, and 2) had a very nice stay at Roger and Sandra's house on Cape Breton Island. Roger was very helpful throughout our short stay. The nearby beach was an easy walk and we had it all to ourselves every time we went. We found crabs in the water and the kids played in the sand. We walked on a trail in the back of the property on a "moose hunt." Did not see any moose, but lots of evidence that they were around! We also drove the Cabot Trail and did the bird island tour (which was great-- saw lots of bald eagles and seals, but only a few puffins since it was a bad time of year for them). The house was very well put together with a lot of history on display inside. I did worry a little about the kids breaking things, but we made it through without any issues. Beautiful view of the sunset and sunrise as well as the stars from the back deck.
