Lovely, peaceful stay on a beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our three young ones (6,4, and 2) had a very nice stay at Roger and Sandra's house on Cape Breton Island. Roger was very helpful throughout our short stay. The nearby beach was an easy walk and we had it all to ourselves every time we went. We found crabs in the water and the kids played in the sand. We walked on a trail in the back of the property on a "moose hunt." Did not see any moose, but lots of evidence that they were around! We also drove the Cabot Trail and did the bird island tour (which was great-- saw lots of bald eagles and seals, but only a few puffins since it was a bad time of year for them). The house was very well put together with a lot of history on display inside. I did worry a little about the kids breaking things, but we made it through without any issues. Beautiful view of the sunset and sunrise as well as the stars from the back deck.

We enjoyed the location and our stay. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Beautiful beach to walk as well. Only negative is road noise if you need the windows open at nite.

A comfortable farm house stay on Cape Breton

  • 4 of 5

A relaxing rural ambience along the Cabot Trail with a short walk to a lovely, quiet, and rugged seashore. This property is definitely family friendly. It also provides access to many Cape Breton attractions. Sandra and Roger gave us good advice on activities of interest. Thanks for a nice place to stay!

The Perfect Place To Stay On The Cabot Trail

  • 5 of 5

Roger and Sandra's beautiful farmhouse on the Cabot Trail was the perfect place to stay for my husband, I and another couple. The farmhouse is situated in a beautiful spot about 45 minutes from Baddeck. The view of the ocean across the road took my breath away each time I left the farmhouse. The bedrooms were comfortable, the kitchen well appointed and the living room was cozy with an attached outside deck. Sandra and Roger were incredibly helpful in making recommendations, answering our questions and telling us about life in Cape Breton. They directed us to great music, good food (they located four big lobsters for one of our dinners at the farmhouse in addition to a great restaurant within walking distance) and lovely art all very close to the farmhouse. This was a convenient location for biking and hiking as well. I would return to the farmhouse and the area in a heartbeat and highly recommend both.

Perfect Cap Breton

  • 5 of 5

Sandra and Roger are super hosts: they maintain the fully equipped and charming farm house to a cleanliness standard I rarely reach myself, happily arranged for a single bed in the extra room (for 4 bedrooms total) so that my 14 yo old young daughter had her own private space, will readily show and share their 200 acre property - which includes veggie garden, beach, hilly terrain, hike trail, etc., they will provide a list of current events/festivals/music, off the beaten track trails and other local know-how, and are simply the most gracious hosts imaginable.

The Clucking Hen restaurant and the many artist shops nearby are an added bonus.

The location is perfect: if your Cap Breton desires include visits to the Park, as well as the Baddeck/Lake area, and also Louisbourg – then the North Shore area/Farm House as your central base is virtually the only way to make this possible without exhaustive car trips each day. Just bring the groceries on your way in (Baddeck), and settle in for a great time.

Owner's Response: Marcel, it was a pleasure to welcome you and your family to our island and it is always comforting to learn that you found our home to your liking. Please drop by again sometime for the whale-watching and salmon fishing. Who knows, your daughter may even get to increase her collection of animal skulls from our woodlands and forests. Many thanks and happy future travels, Sincerely, Sandra and Roger
