From the Owners:
One early Spring Sunday morning in 1994, Cheryl called her sister, Beverly, and asked if she wanted to take a ride to Berkeley Springs to look at a house with her and her husband, Sonny. They all lived east of Hagerstown, MD. This house, Cheryl explained, just sounded interesting and, besides, it was a nice day for a drive.
As soon as they toured the house they fell in love. They went into Berkeley Springs and, while enjoying a lunch at Tari’s, they called their parents, Alan and Mary. Alan and Mary immediately drove to meet their daughters and together they agreed to buy the house from the former owner and sealed the deal with handshakes all round.
Over the last two decades that this home served as our family's home away from home. There have been a lot of great times and even major events, including a wedding, shared at this property. Now it is time to share this unique gem with others!
Sarah purchased this house in 1994
We loved the privacy of this area! My children loved the creek, the yard and the WIFI. We went to the Apple Butter Festival which was awesome! So many vendors and things to do! We went to Prospect Peak which was just up the road. The view of where the Potomac, WV, MD, and PA meet was spectacular! The only negative were the bugs in the bedroom windows. Hopefully we can return next year!
I come here every summer with my friends for our annual retreat! We love the privacy, the giant fire pit, lawn perfect for ultimate frisbee, outdoor grill, babbling brook in the backyard and unbeatable character of the place. We <3 you ladybug!
We enjoyed a cousins' getaway weekend at the house. We were a little surprised to find that the kitchen table seated only 6 of us comfortably, with chairs pulled from other locations. Also, we were never able to find the lawn chairs that were meant to go around the fire pit, nor the hammock. We had to drag heavy porch furniture to the firepit and return it before we left. The linens were lacking - no washcloths were provided and only 4 towels were left out. We did find a couple of extra towels in a closet but were afraid that we weren't supposed to be looking there as the owner's closet that we were warned about accessing is not marked. The towels were neatly folded but several had stink bugs inside. I believe if the owners invested in a few minor upgrades such as high quality linens (towels - 2 per weekend, hand towel, wash cloth) that were clean, stacked, and folded for each potential guest, some new frying pans, a few cookie sheets, new flatware (!), a kitchen table set that had a leaf and chairs to seat 8-9, and of course some lightweight chairs for use around the fire... they would have a wonderful retreat spot on their hands. We were happy to be able to gather there but those little things would have really added a lot to the experience.
We really loved the creek and would in fact, stay again! We would just bring a few things for cooking, and definitely some more towels!
This property was in a great spot. It was well equipped and clean. It had a very nice view of Sir Johns Run out back and we could see the trains go by in the distance. We also watched 2 small raccoons sleeping up in one of the trees. It rained a little while we were there so we were able to move from the back deck to the covered front porch which is large. Some of the mattresses were not so comfortable and I think the one my relative and I had did not have box spring support, just old bed springs so we were hugging the edge to keep from rolling into the middle. All in all this was a nice property and some of our party will be returning soon.
Description was accurate. Clean and well maintained. Stocked with books to read, videos and games. Creek with running stream in back of house. Fire pit for cooking outdoors. A short walk down the road and across rail road track to the Potomac river. Try restaurants in town Teri Café, and County Inn good food. I would recommend Creekside Country Home .
The overall feel of this house is more like a summer cabin experience. It was definitely cleaned before we got there, but the old bedroom floors had a somewhat dirty feel to them. Also, carpeted bathrooms hold no appeal at all. That was quite a gross surprise. The most enjoyable parts of this house were the fire pit out back and the brook running behind the yard. We rented the house for three nights, but one adult left a night early because her bed, in the room with two beds, felt like a trampoline and she could not sleep at all. All the furniture is very old, but was sufficient for many to sit and relax. Only four could eat together at the table. The house served our purpose of a place to stay together, but is definitely over priced for the conditions of the house.
