About this property

Grand Historical Home, Gated Parking, Near FQ, St Charles, Trolley, Parades

The Napoleon was built in the late 1870's, this grand mansion is one of New Orleans finest in architectural design. Imagine yourself in the late 1800's living in a southern mansion that boasted the finest in European chandeliers, iron work and stained glass windows, all along an oak tree lined avenue.

This home has the finest of furnishings in close proximity to the St. Charles streetcar line that can take you from the Central Business District, French Quarter or to the the Uptown are that includes Audubon Park and Tulane and Loyola Universities. Come enjoy one of the greatest American cities that welcome tourist's as if it were your home 'somewhere in time'.

Given the architectural beauty of this nearly 7,000 square foot home, the bedrooms are expansive with large doors and windows, and tall ceilings. What is gorgeous about this unit is after walking through the leaded front doors, there is the expanse of a plaster archway that adjoins the living and dining room into a double parlor. The living room then showcases 14' pocket doors.

The property is on three city lots and has lush gardens all around the home for you to enjoy the open air, yet private spaces. Both off-street and on-street parking is available. Off-street parking is within a fenced and gated property.

Walk the neighborhoods and you'll find the best restaurants in New Orleans as voted on by the locals. Look for Shaya's (was #1 in the U.S.), La Petit Grocery, Theo's, Sukho Thai, Appoline, La Boulangerie (French Bakery-my favorite), Haiku Sushi, Superior Seafood, Surrey's and so many more. If you're looking for pubs, consider Ms. Mae's. It's been open for generations! Don't forget Tipitina's! Tipitina's is well-known and home to Professor Longhair. Besides good drinks, it has GREAT music!

Great location in the heart of Uptown NOLA
Overall, this is a very nice gathering spot for a group of friends looking to experience New Orleans. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the home is nicely furnished. The layout of the bathrooms and bedrooms is a little unusual, with only the master BR having it's own full bath. A second BR has a half bath (no shower), & the 3rd BR has an adjacent 1/2 bath (no toilet). Finally, there is 1 common area full bath near the living room/ kitchen. Kitchen is stocked with the basics but "extras" are limited to salt and pepper . The large front porch was a lovely spot to gather and location is walking distance to shops and restaurants, and only a couple blocks from the street car. The host was very responsive.

We have stayed in this beautiful mansion before a few years ago. It was wonderful then and this time did not disappoint. They were many of us and we kept adding as family found out we were going. Contact with Liz was prompt every time. We love the location as it’s a quick walk to the trolley and if you go the other direction you get to enjoy Magazine street. The kitchen is set up well for large groups and we love the table in the dining room as we played cards in the night after our Burbon street excursions. The front porch is lovely to sip coffee in the morning or read a book. I love the leather couches. The only thing I would change or I could’ve called about was needing more towels and TP. But we managed as I didn’t want to bother our hosts again after she had been so accommodating. Thank you again for allowing us to adjust our numbers and stay in such a beautiful old home.

Beautiful home
Lovely old home in the garden district. Easy walk to Magazine St and restaurants. You can hear street noise in the front 2 bedrooms so bring earplugs if that bothers you. We slept fine and the beds and linens are very comfortable. Funky bathroom situation but our party of 5 women easily made it work.

Convenient for Our Purposes
We booked in Jan.in order to have a comfortable and historic stay near the streetcar line in New Orleans- my family was there to attend a memorial service for my mother. Altogether, the rental served our 4 adults and 5 children comfortably. Napoleon house is a "grand old house" and there are portions of it that really speak to its glory years.I am guessing late 19th century or a bit past. If you are considering, take note that the house is split into several units. For example, the front porch has doors to two units; one upstairs and one at landing level. The living/dining area was a great place for the adults to hang out. We established a kid's zone behind the kitchen where all the cousins played. This was very convenient. There was no lack of bathrooms, although the front bedroom with the king lacked an ensuite but accessed a hallway bathroom with small shower. That was the bathroom I used during the trip as it made sense for my daughter to have the bathroom with laundry (she has 3 children) and a tub. I am generally not picky about furnishings or odd floor changes in vrbos. I don't even really care too much if the paint is chipping or door latches instead of locks are used, but I am fairly picky about cleanliness as it regards the floors. I dropped a toothbrush on the bathroom floor and decided upon retrieving it, it was covered with gunk from between the sink and wall. There is a substantial cleaning fee and for the money, I would not stay here again. Needs improvement.

We enjoy rehabbing architectural gems, especially those with a nice history!

Why they chose this property

Location! Location! Location! An architectural beauty that is so close to great shops, restaurants, transportation, the French Quarter, Audubon Zoo, Tipitina's, the Universities and many, many more fantastic sites.

What makes this property unique

Imagining the period in time in which this house and area were built. The craftsmanship is quite amazing; plaster trip, medallions and archways pay great attention to detail. The house is so convenient to so many venues that there's never a dull moment.
