I am Ocean Grove's last remaining multi-generational innkeeper. My great-grandmother bought our hotel in 1898 and I'm the fourth generation woman in our family to own and operate it. It's been a blessing and a privilege to do so. But now it is time to let the Central Avenue House re-invent itself as a group rental. I hope your family enjoys it as much as ours has!
Jennifer purchased this hotel in 1899
I was fortunate enough to be born into a family of female hoteliers in the most beautiful sea shore location on earth.
I love that you can walk just a few blocks and be anywhere you need to be! Whether it's two blocks to the beach or restaurants, or buying a quart of milk, getting the paper, going to the bank, post office or hardware store, everthing is so close! Best is walking into Asbury Park for the most exceptional musical and artistic culture you'll find anywhere. Asbury is the hipper, funkier, zanier cousin to Ocean Grove's Victorian, mom & pop, Americana, time stood still character. You've got the best of both worlds w/i blocks of each other when you stay at the Central Avenue House
My family of 14 had a wonderful time here. There was plenty of room for all of us, with bedrooms to spare. We were close to everything and loved the music from the boardwalk gazebo to the Methodist camp ground. It's so close to the beach and has good supplies of beach towels and chairs. We had all our meals in the house and found the kitchen easy to work in and had all the utensils you could want. Thank you, Jennifer. You do a beautiful job!
Beautiful, historic, amazing place to stay. Just feet from the buttery waters of the New Jersey sea.
If you are gathering a large herd of people for an joyous reunion -- whether old college friends, or other groups looking to celebrate bygone funtimes and generate new ones -- the Central Ave. House hits the spot.
Location can't be beat. The beach is just a short barefoot walk away. The porches are incredible. You'll take the air while reconnecting with dear friends and sipping a fine wine. The array of twin-bedded rooms with air conditioning is ideal for all the members of your party to enjoy a good night's sleep before you get up and do it all again the next day.
Yes, you should rent this house.
The house is perfect for large groups who want to get away for the weekend and enjoy the beach and fun of Asbury Park.
Without a doubt the most incredible place to entertain a group of fun-loving bachelor-bash beachgoers looking for welcoming porches, people, pizza and parties with pals.
Our entire group of 15 each had their own comfortable room to sleep in and space to catch up on old times. We're already making plans to make a weekend at the Central Avenue House an annual event. Thanks to Jennifer for making this a must-visit and can't-wait-to-return!
Jennifer was the consummate host and very communicative. We had about 14 guys in their mid-30's gathered for a very wholesome bachelor party. We had great weather so took full advantage of the porches and proximity to the beach. The fact that everyone had their own room was a real bonus as sometimes these large gatherings mean awkward sleeping arrangements. Would love to return again sometime in the future!
Love this house! This is perfect for a large family gathering, particularly if you have a family member with knee or other mobility issues. Only 3 steps up the front porch, and there's a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor, which turned out to be perfect for my parents. It's close to the beach, has two great ice cream places within a couple blocks, and has a historic home across the street, which is open for tours (and a good way to get to know the community's history.) It has plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, two fridges, a washer and dryer and just about everything you need for a week at the beach. Each room has an air conditioner (new, very functional) but spending time on the porches in the ocean breeze is just fine too. Jennifer was kind and very responsive to emails. We were all thrilled with our stay and would definitely book again.
Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has more per capita Victorian architecture than any other town in the United States. You don't even need a vehicle during your stay as everything in town is within walking distance. World famous Asbury Park, home of Bruce Springsteen, is just a 5 minute walk away. Asbury has emerged as the new Brooklyn with its fine restaurants, arts, music and entertainment scene. There is always a festival feel to this City by the Sea. We're a mere 45 miles south of New York City - hop the train from Asbury and be enchanted by all the City has to offer. Philadelphia is 70 miles west and easily accessible by bus or auto. Within 10 - 30 minutes by car you can indulge in marina fishing, golf, horseback riding/the track, Great Adventure amusement center & animal park and PNC Art Center concert hall. Atlantic City is 75 miles south.
