We enjoyed the home, the kitchen is impressive ,with restaurant grade appliances There was ample room for a party of adults and children. Video system worked well the beds were comfortable , the location easily accessible by car from train station . . Sandy was a very helpful, friendly and accommodating . We imagine that the lower patio and gazebo will be fabulous in the spring and summer ! We appreciated the provision of coffee and tea. Regret that the jacuzzis were not operational and an upgrade of the toiletries is in order. Sandy if you have another rental property in another vacation area Let us know !
to celebrate my 70 th birthday we gathered 23 friends and family including 7 kids between the ages of 11 and 13! the house was beautiful, spacious and perfect for gathering so many. lots of room to huddle in groups or have the whole crew together. the outside tabe was huge and got a lot of use. loved the pergola and the seprate cottage was enchanting indeed!
sandy was a perfect hostess, thoughtful and classy. would recommend it to anyone.
Our family of 9 stayed at this wonderfully renovated home in the D.C. area for 1 week in September. Our group consisted of my 83 year old mother, my 3 siblings and their spouses plus me and my significant other. We wanted a place to stay where we could spend time together eating, talking, laughing and sharing stories of our daily activities in Washington. Knowing that a hotel would not provide that sort of "family environment" we searched for a rental property on VRBO. What we found in this delightful house was a home away from home.
Each couple, and mom, had our own spacious bedroom, complete with a private bath! The rooms are very tastefully decorated and each has a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The jetted tubs were a very welcome relief after a day walking, and walking, and walking along the mall. Sandy has really created some delightful themes throughout the bedrooms and she has certainly keep her visitor's comfort in mind by providing large rooms, queen size beds, ample closet and drawer space and beautiful large windows.
The kitchen was impressive. The room is designed to accommodate a large event, however, we felt right at home cooking for our small group of 9. You would not think that cooking and vacation go together, but for our family it was so enjoyable to spend time talking and laughing and reminiscing about current and past family activities without a waiter stopping by to check up on us. Another bonus to staying at this beautiful home-we did not have to worry about meeting up at set times for a group breakfast, lunch or dinner. Early birds could get up at the crack of dawn for their breakfast and sleepy heads could enjoy a few extra hours of blissful sleep in the comfortable beds.
This home is beautiful! The pictures online are great-but the home is amazing once you are there. Sandy is a gracious host who could not have been more attentive or kind, If we ever make it back to D.C. my family has informed me that I am to reserve this property again. I would highly recommend this rental (home away from home) to anybody looking for a place to stay in the D.C. area. There is a bus stop right across the street for easy access to the mall area-or to the Metro. Absolutely one of the best parts of the family trip. I would give this home 10 stars if I could.
We were a girls basketball team from the Chicago land area, it was our last season together, the girls will go off to college next year. It was a great place to stay, every family had their own bedroom/bathroom, the coach stayed in the cottage. We saved money because hotels and PARKING cost a LOT and this was so much better because it MADE us ALL hang together. We ate all breakfast and dinners at home. The owner Sandy showed us around on the first day, never saw her again, BUT when i had a question i would text her and within 5 minutes she ALWAYS got backed to me with an answer. It was a PERFECT way to end our story. Great memories were made.
The Uptown House was perfect for our 21-person family reunion. We utilized every bedroom and bathroom in the house, including the cottage. All the rooms were clean, comfortable and well-apportioned. The kitchen was equipped to handle many guests (2 refrigerators, 2 ovens, institutional coffee maker, and plenty of plates, silverware, and wine glasses. We dined upstairs at the large dining room table and outside on the very nice patio. the large rooms on the first floor were perfect for our family gathering.
The rooms on the first second floor all had high ceilings, beautiful wood trim, comfortable couches and chairs, and wooden slate window blinds. We especially liked the portraits and art work on the walls. As the Uptown House is an older mansion, the floors creak which could wake anyone sleeping the basement bedrooms. The temperature was in the mid-90's on the first two days of our stay. The A/C's for each floor kept the house cool. When the temps cooled on our last day, we enjoyed the sitting area on the porch and the back deck.
Sandy, the owner, was very responsive to our request for an early check-in, and for my sister's late check-out request. Also, she responded quickly with answers to questions on how to operate ceiling fans, toaster, etc. Based upon Sandy's recommendation, we had one dinner catered by Moe of Highland Restaurant which was a block south of the house. Moe and his staff did a great job. We lunched at the Highland and enjoyed it also.
Our concern that the location was distant from downtown DC and Reagan airport was misplaced. We were able to order Ubers late at night for a trip to the U Street bar district, and early in the morning (5 AM) for a trip to the airport. The longest wait we had for an Uber was 7-minutes, as the ladies wanted an Uber XL for their shopping trip to Georgetown. The joggers in our group enjoyed their run at nearby Rock Creek Park.
The Uptown House was great for our family reunion in DC.
This was the second time our group rented the Uptown House. The kitchen has been renovated which was a nice change and there is still plenty of pots, pans and serving tools to accommodate a large group like ours. Most of the bedrooms have private baths so this is always appreciated and the common areas are huge with lots of space for small and large group meetings. Our group particularly enjoys the location of the house which is across the street from a bus stop and not a far ride from the metro station. Two suggestions for the owner. 1) the dishwasher kept coming out of the cabinet and leaning dangerously towards the floor while loading dishes and 2) it would help to have directions on how to use the industrial size coffee maker. We couldn't figure out how to make the coffee hot so it was Luke warm every morning --not good for the caffeine addicts among us! All in all, we love the house and the manager Sandy couldn't be nicer.
Located on a major thoroughfare of Washington, we are 4 miles from the National Mall. Use public transportation for easy access and enjoy our free parking.
