We grew up in the Shenandoah Valley, making this our home. Valerie is a retired teacher from Rockingham County, Brad continues to work in finance at a law firm in Washington DC. We raised 3 children and we are currently enjoying our grandchildren. Sports is a common passion of ours.
Valerie Mayes purchased this apartment in 2011

Me and my kids loved our stay here during a school break! The one room apartment was nice and clean. My kids especially enjoyed going to collect eggs and feeding the horses carrots. Valerie had given us a bags of carrots just for that purpose. Another thing enjoyed by my kids was making s'mores over the open fire pit. We were able to do some hiking in the Shenandoah National Park and visited a cave and the civil war museum nearby. The only thing is the kitchen is rather small and not set up to be able to cook two things at once. Since my son has allergies, I ended up fixing his meal first and then my daughter's and my meal second. It is a beautiful and quiet place and we would definitely come back here. Thank you Valerie for making our stay enjoyable!
Our overall experience was nothing short of amazing thanks to Valerie and Brad. They thought of every detail to make the property one you'll mever forget. It was a pleasure meeting all of the animals and waking up to them each morning, nothing beats finishing your morning coffee and going to feed them. Thanks Valerie and Brad for a one of kind experience, we will definitely be back as soon as we can!
We loved this place. It was off the beaten path but not too far from Harrisonburg and other spots. We could go into town for fun and then come back to this quiet and relaxing place. The hosts were very hospitable and down to earth people. This is a perfect spot of if you want to enjoy the Shenandoah Valley
Another great visit in the books! Valerie and Brad provide everything one could possibly need for an amazing stay. We love all of the animals especially being able to visit with them and feed the horses carrots. This is truly an amazing place and are so glad you chose to share it. You bet we'll be back!
This was a great vacation all around. From the warm and cozy barn house. Beautiful Shanahdoah Valley attractions, great restaurants, hiking and sight seeing...it has everything you would want. Valerie and Brad have an amazing location with animals that will give you an experience you can only dream of. I'm really looking forward to our next trip here!
Great drive in to the farmlands of Virginia to arrive at a perfect destination spot. The retreat was exactly what we were wanting even with a little bit of business ruining part of one day. Val and all of her 4 legged family members were there for our every need from walking in late the first night and leaving the long driveway on the day we left. It was a home away from home. We just couldn't get Cusko in the back of the Jeep. Maybe next time. Hope to see them all again real soon. We took advantage of the grill and fire pit and some smores. Everything is there for you. will not hesitate in returning. Thanks for a great long weekend!
Many attractions to visit! New market battle field, endless caverns, luray caverns, shenandoah caverns, grand caverns, cross keys vineyard, blue stone vineyard, shenandoah vineyard, barren ridge vineyard, white oak lavender farm, luray reptile center, back home on the farm (corn maze, pumpkin patch), skyline drive, skiing (massanutten and bryce), golfing (shenvalee, pack saddle, heritage oaks, and lake view), james madison university, bridgewater college, eastern mennonite university, and much much more!
