The apartment is on the top two floors in a new building on laugavegur, the main shopping street. The apartment is 75 m2 or 800 sq ft in size. Downstairs is a bathroom with a bathtub and shower, kitchen, a living-room with a 3-seat sofa, large TV and and a large window facing south towards hallgrimskirkja. The bedroom is upstairs along with a balcony providing excellent view to the south over the city centre (see photo on top of the page).

The apartment sleeps 2-4 people. It is fully furnished with all utilities, such as refrigerator, microwave, stove, toaster, dish-washer, tableware for 6 persons, bathtub/shower, washing machine/dryer, 37' flat-screen tv, dvd player, apple tv, mobile phone with a local number, mobile wifi hotspot, high-speed wireless internet connection, baby cot and a bo-concept double bed with a visco-elastic foam mattress (similar to tempur-pedic). There is an elevator up to the 4th floor and then a staircase inside the apartment between the two floors. A parking space in a closed garage within the building can be provided at only USD 20 per day.

About Jon Thorvaldsson

My name is Jon and i have been living in Reykjavik for over 20 years. Before that i lived in my old hometown of Akranes. I studied Computer Sciences at the University of Iceland and later did an MBA program at Reykjavik University. I currently work for the city of Reykjavik as Director of IT. I have rented this property to travellers since 2008 with great success. I live in the same building which allows me to respond quickly to any request my guests may have.

Clean and up to date....bright, great location, great host and what a week it was!! Would return in a heartbeat. Devices provided were a tremendous help for mobile phone access, etc. Walking distance to anything we wanted to see in the downtown area. Groceries, restaurants and shopping, not to mention the views.

Beautiful Loft, Excellent Location!

We could not have picked a better place to stay! This penthouse is in a great location with several bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. Great views of the city and very friendly people in the building. Absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Iceland! We had a blast!

Great location, amenities and use of space

My husband and I stayed in the apartment during the tail-end of our April 2017 trip to Iceland. Reykjavik is not a large city, and the locations of many of the things to see and do are concentrated in an even smaller area. The apartment was perfectly situated, on the main shopping street, to all of those things. Thus, it was a quick walk to sights, restaurants or just people watching. While it was on the main street, it was also well-secured and felt very safe. The interior of the apartment made very efficient use of its footprint, with the lower level very open yet cozy. Both the downstairs bathroom and the upstairs bedroom were spacious. It was also located across the street from the Sandholt Bakery, which was a great spot for breakfast. And, it was a straight shot down Laugavegur to the city centre. Plus, communication with the owner of the apartment was always easy (and prompt). We would highly recommend the apartment for its great location, amenities and use of space, as well as ease of communication.

Fabulous apartment in a central location

My husband and I stayed 4 nights in this fantastic apartment. It was clean, it has everything you need (including a hair dryer, which was handy as I forgot to pack mine) and is tastefully furnished. Sofa and bed are really comfy too, which is great after a day sight seeing.

This is an ideal place to stay when exploring beautiful Reykjavik. It is located on the main high street, next to some good restaurants and walking distance to all the main attractions. It also has a lovely view both at the front and back of the apartment. If you've booked a trip, all the main companies pick you from the door or very close by (two doors up).

Jon is a very warm and friendly host. He is incredibly responsive and made us feel very welcome in his apartment.

Overall we had a fantastic trip to Iceland and having a lovely place to stay, with a really lovely host just added to our experience.

Outstanding apartment in prime location

Our family stayed in this apartment for a week and used it as a jumping off point to our adventures in Iceland. Upon our arrival, Jon the property owner met us and showed us around the apartment. It was very well equipped with all of the disposable products you would need, like paper towels, toilet paper, laundry and dish detergent, etc. We made use of the washing machine, which allowed us to bring less clothing for the trip. Everything functioned very well. The apartment also came with a wifi hot spot and local phone, which we made extensive use of when we were out and about. The apartment was well decorated, clean and comfortable. The views from the apartment were stunning. It was nice to be able to enjoy breakfast and look down on Laugavegur Street, (which is one of the main streets in town) and watch everyone going about their day or look up and see the Hallgrímskirkja towering over the city. The apartment location is perfect, right in the middle of it all. We found absolutely no need for a car as Reykjavik is a very walkable city, with walking paths and paths either over or under major road ways. When we ventured out of town, we simply booked through a tour company who picked us up at the apartment door and dropped us off after the tour was done. There was a Bonus grocery store a few spots down from the apartment which we made use of to buy breakfast and snacks for throughout the day. Aside from providing us with a great apartment to stay in, Jon was a fantastic host! On our arrival he was able to book us brunch at Vox (highly recommend), which was fantastic. Also, on our departure, he allowed us to store our luggage at his apartment until we got our bus to leave for the airport. We saw many wonderful things and had many great experiences while visiting Iceland. Having this apartment to use while we were there certainly played a part in making our trip a great one!
