About the property

Modern Artsy Flat In Hip Part Of Brooklyn

This 2nd floor apartment is a sweet, small space on at the back of the house, limiting the street noise activity. The house is an old 1910 frame building, with layers of history, normal wear and some recent updates. It is a family-friendly building, owner-occupied, with another family on the 3rd floor.

The kitchen is tucked in an alcove, but open to the dining/living area. All kitchen appliances and fixtures are modern, with a granite counter and copper back-splash.

There is a large entry closet and a smaller closet in the bedroom. The bathroom has a standard tub with shower, dual flush toilet and stainless industrial sink. All linens (towels and sheets) are provided. This apartment offers two places to sleep, both accommodating double sleepers.

The living room/dining area windows face north and west; allowing a lot of indirect, natural light. Most of the furniture is minimal, modern style.

Although there are sleeping accommodations for four, it is really best for two adults (and two children).

With an architect/artist owner, it is a work in progress. Please do not expect hotel-level finish, but instead an interesting dialogue between materials, spaces, furnishings.

**This is a Non-Smoking unit**

Check in is at 4PM and check out is 11AM. I try to accommodate all individual arrival and departure circumstances

About Frid Branham

As mentioned in the rental description, I am an artist and architect. I am currently self-employed and most of the projects I do are residential or small businesses, although I have a lot of experience working on institutional/medical projects.

I was born in Ibiza, Spain to American parents and moved back to the States when I was 11. My parents are also creatives, working in architecture, art and fashion. After receiving a 4-year degree in History from Boston University, I decided to pursue architecture and attended my parents alma matter Pratt Institute. Afterwards, I completed a Masters degree in sculpture at Hunter College.

Frid Branham purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Frid Branham chose South Slope

I love the friendly, safe neighborhood. It is slightly divided off from South Slope/Park Slope, creating an enclave of its own. There are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants to try; many of different regions of the world.

The school system is very good and my kids can safely walk around the neighborhood unattended by an adult.

What makes this apartment unique

I live in the building, and make myself available to any and all questions, needs and concerns.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Only good things to say about Frid and her apartment!

Frid answered very quickly to all my mails (1 hour maximum). She lives the apartment downstairs, which is practise in case of need.

She is flexible, friendly and excellent hosts who cares about her guest, she tell us good spots, events.. Thanks to her we tasted perfect pizza just in the corner and last but not least example, we saw Obama in official visit in Brooklyn!!! We also enjoyed the delicious bread that she left for us, in addition to essential foods to start our sojourn.. Really greats attentions!

The apartment has all the comfort expected. It was better than on the pictures..

Clean, spacious, really quiet (no noise in the building and outside, which is really surprising in bk), good bedding.. we spend great time in this place!

Almost, it's in a good and safe area, not so far from Manhattan and easiest to enjoy of all the "beauty" of Brooklyn!

I would recommend without hesitation Frid's apartment and definitely keep this contact for another stay in New York!

Comfortable, Clean, and Well equipped

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 5 days here in December while visiting our grandchildren. It was the perfect place for us. Very clean, pleasantly furnished, well equipped - we felt like we could have been in a European apartment. The apartment is conveniently sited near shops, transportation - and we had no problem finding parking. Fred is a lovely and very responsive host - and we really appreciate her flexibility with a late check out! We will definitely stay here again when we have an extended stay in Brooklyn.

Nice little spot

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend in New York to visit our daughter for her birthday and stayed at Frid’s place. It was comfortable for 3 although we did not spend much time in the apartment. It is well equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals although no microwave to heat things. We have spent some time in the area so we knew what to expect in a 100 year old Brooklyn rowhouse. As the write up says this is not the same “fit and finish” as a modern hotel room but that is actually part of the appeal. It’s a little bit of a walk to the subway but if you have spent any time in NYC you will know that there is always walking involved. We didn’t eat in the area but know from previous visits that there are lots of good restaurants in the area. Parking was good (for NYC). Frid was welcoming and responsive to our requests. Would stay here again and recommend it to others who need a comfortable spot in an interesting neighbourhood close to the city. for a reasonable price.

I love this place!

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful one-week stay in this lovely flat. Frid is wonderful, and the neighborhood is great. It reminded me of my days living in Brooklyn. Definitely not a hotel experience, but a wonderful place to spend time. I look forward to staying here again next time I visit New York!

Shabby and disappointing

  • 2 of 5

The kitchen and bathroom had been remodeled but there were several areas that appeared unfinished. Wood baseboards in the kitchen and living room had unpainted areas and blotches of spackle. Nice old tin ceiling in living room but with a large peeling areas around the ceiling fan. Floor near the bookshelf peeling as well as peeling paint on the window sill.

The most shocking thing for me was the fact that the bed had stained sheets. They appeared to have been laundered but the stain was just unacceptable. Those sheets should never have been placed on a guest bed. I notified the owner and she did give me a small refund for that and the toilet paper holder that fell off the wall in the bathroom when I was changing the roll. I know the building was older and I have no issues with that. I feel the apt was overpriced for the unfinished, shabby state it was in. More care could have been taken with the upkeep of the apt to make a nice presentation.

Owner's Response: Hello Kathleen, I'm very sorry you felt the apartment did not reflect the description. I thought I clearly indicated that the apartment and building is a work in progress. This is not a fancy apartment, nor do I present or charge it as such. It is described accurately and is a comfortable accommodation while visiting Brooklyn, including for my visiting family. I have received many positive reviews and take any criticism, no matter how small, very seriously. With respect to the sheets, I have been using the same cleaner for 2 years and, as I explained at the time of your stay, he has been very careful to remove any stained linens left by guests. On this occasion, he must have overlooked this and for that, again, I apologize. To clarify, the sheets were not put on dirty, but a sheet which had a stain which would not come out was unintentionally put on the bed. With the toilet paper holder, it was not broken, but the set screw was lose and this is why it came off of the wall. You only made me aware of this the night before you left. I live right downstairs in the building and do everything I can to accommodate any requests and concerns. The stained sheet was not mentioned to me until the night before you left and I voluntarily gave you a credit for your trouble having to change the sheet. With concern, Frïd

Car: not necessary

South Slope/Greenwood Heights is directly adjacent to Park Slope and in very easy walking distance to Prospect Park and Historic Greenwood Cemetery. Within the immediate area there are a large number of restaurant, bars and cafes from which to choose, including: Lot2, Southside Coffee, Toby's, Giuseppina's, Seawich, Corzo, Roots, Sidecar Restaurant, and the list is endless of good choices. BAM, Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Barclay Center and Brooklyn Heights Promenade are just short subway or bus rides away.
