About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose Al Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Beautiful cozy cabin with the prettiest decor! We loved our stay!

  • 4 of 5

The kitchen was easy to cook in, the bathrooms were gorgeous (I love all the stone elements!) The beds were comfy and we all loved the heavy fur throws because it was pretty chilly at night. There was a good supply of paper towel and toilet paper-I know that sounds strange but most VRBO's I've stayed at never have enough and I end up having to run to the store. The only slight negative is the shared space with the duplex. I knew it going in so I'm not complaining really, I just felt so nervous that we would be too loud and disturb the neighbors, and on a few occasions I ended up hearing them when I would have preferred not to lol Again that's not a terrible thing, but it was something I was aware of most of the time and I felt slightly on edge at times like early in the morning or while playing board games at night. But seriously the cabin is a gem and I just adored it!! The location was great too. Walked to the beach one night and we walked to the coffee house several times. The owner is also easy to communicate with and I appreciated that as well.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for your beautiful rendition of your experience, it was so real! Yes it is a duplex. My first rule is to keep the noise low in so, respecting guests staying on the other side. I only allow 4 adults rather than (8-12 adults it can sleep) to keep noise down:). Glad you loved your experience at our log homestead!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

When I saw the pictures on the site before renting I thought you know it looks decent, I’ll go for it. But when I walked in, I was blown away. It was really comfortable. After 2 days my 2 yr old son was calling it home. It’s a short walk to a park for young children that my kids loved! Walking distance to a bike rental place, restaurants, parks and bike paths. I had a great experience here in Lake Tahoe and this cabin was a big part of it. It’s also a short drive to a lot of other attractions. My family and I will definitely stay here again. Thank you for having us and having great pricing so we could rent with you. I am so looking forward to next time!

Exactly as described in the listing

  • 5 of 5

The cabin in more spacious than it appears in the photos. It is clean and well taken care of. It is a great location, very close to the lake and walking distance to some restaurants. We had a great experience in South Lake Tahoe, breathtaking hikes, great meals at local restaurants, cards around the table in the evening. The only thing the cabin was lacking was enough warm, comfortable blankets.

Awesome place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Laurie, we loved staying in your log cabin. The decor was charming and we had all the comforts of home:) Loved the "Christmas lights" and candles all around inside...it added to the ambiance at night. The location was fantastic, just a short walk to the lake. Our only negative coment would be to change out that mattress upstairs (you know the one)...it's ready to retire!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for the generous and positive review:) Yes, a guest before you broke the bed, and we had it replaced the day you left, as that was the soonest delivery to Tahoe:( You are so welcome for your lovely stay!
