About Kim Aldridge

My husband grew up helping his grandfather farm the land that surrounds the farmhouse. Which inspired a love of working in the fields. He now owns and operates an Automotive Repair business. In his spare time he takes care of mowing that gives him the opportunity to still work in the fields.

I was a stay-at-home mom while our kids were home. After they started school I needed something to keep me busy so kept friends and neighbors kids. When we had a decision to make about what to do with the farmhouse we decided to try renting it. Now I take care of the house and see to the comfort and needs of our guests.

Why Kim Aldridge chose Cobden

We opened our house to the public in 2007. Not wanting to see it set up on the hill and deteriorate from non use we decided to turn it into a rental so we could share the beauty of the old house. This house has been in our family since 1942 and was only owned by one other family before ours. Stories are told that part of the lumber used to build the house came from a mill that was set up on the property that we now live on.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I fell in love with the farmhouse the first time my husband & I went to a family Christmas gathering. It has character that is unmatched by any new home. Most all of our guests say it reminds them of their 'grandmas'.

Perfect place for girl's weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had a mother-daughter birthday celebration wine trail weekend and were fortunate to have this house as our home away from home. The house is in a perfect location for winery visits, has so much character and charm and is obviously well-loved. There were 6 of us so we had plenty of room to spread out but we really enjoyed gathering around the dining table and hanging out on the beautiful front porch after visiting the wineries. We are hoping to return soon and will definitely be planning our trip around the availability of this beautiful home. Thank you Kim for all the wonderful special touches in the house. We loved it!!

Lovely home, and probably the most well stocked home I have ever rented through VRBO! Close to hiking and biking (Ferne Clyffe, Giant City, Tunnel Hill) as well as the Shawnee Wine Trail. Kim is wonderful to work with, too! Thanks for a fabulous stay!

Beautiful House!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolute wonderful time staying at the Water Valley Inn. The house was very spacious and clean (perfect for 5 couples), with all the amenities you would ever need. The charm of the house is absolutely amazing and beautiful! We enjoyed the wineries during the day and each evening enjoyed being outside on the large porch while we grilled. We are already planning a trip to come back next year! I highly recommend the Water Valley Inn!

Wonderful old house

  • 5 of 5

This place is wonderful... it really felt like home! From cooking to family meals, fires in the fire pit, to grilling outside... everything made our graduation weekend more memorable. Although we are done with SIU for now... we’ll be back for some leisure time to enjoy many of the other offerings southern Illinois has . One of favorites so far.

Charming Home!

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 7 women on a bachelorette weekend. We were delighted to find this home was not only spacious and comfortable, but had all the charm of an old Victorian! We loved the large wood baseboards, the transept windows above the pocket doors, the parlor, and the beautiful staircase! There were five rooms with really comfortable beds, more than enough for seven of us to have either our own room or at least a bed. We spent time at the wineries on Friday and Saturday but kept saying let's go back and just enjoy the porch and our beautiful rental! We also had fun with the messages hidden behind the brick and imagining the haunted lady in white! Well equipped for anything!

Great farmhouse with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Owners also provide nice touches such as fresh milk and breakfast staples (pancake mixes, etc.). Bedrooms are great and very nice bathrooms.
