Although Sally, the owner has a Scottish background, she was born in Antigua in the late 50's, "I've lived and travelled to many places during my younger years but Antigua has always remained my home and base. I enjoy building cottages typical of Caribbean design & have spent many years perfecting my own island style. The Beach House has been featured in many magazines & TV adverts due to it's eclectic mix of color, design, comfort & unique positioning on one of Antigua's 365 beaches. I hope you will view our photos and book your next holiday at The Beach House for your own slice of heaven."
The Beach House, a fully contained cottage on it's own beach is located in Johnson's Point village. The village shop is less than 5 minutes away & the capital City St. John's is only 20 minutes from the cottage. Ideal for BBQ's on the beach, snorkeling and even hiking are a few of the many benefits of staying at The Beach House.
The Beach House is a unique place. It is ideal for those who want to holiday on their own, are content to stay in what is really a lovely house, but without hotel or resort amenities. Replacing those is virtually your own bay and beach with a small choral reef that is a good way to start your snorkeling on the Island. The sunsets sitting right at the beach are an amazing experience that one never tires of. The house is amazing. It is very well maintained, full of all kinds of Island art and colour. The kitchen is really fun to work in. The outside shower on the veranda has a great view. The house is off the electrical grid, but has solar power with a fridge, lights and even a plug in to charge phones, etc. There is no Internet, which proved to be a blessing. Besides, the bar up the road has internet, as do most restaurants. You need a car as you are gated in a the road and quite a distance (not really) from stores etc. We used the car to explore the Island during the day - the Beach House is well located for that. We also ate in at night. Groceries are available at The Epicurean in Jolly Harbour which is a high end grocery for the boats. We also went to the Saturday market in St. Johns for vegetables. there are lots of restaurants nearby if that is your think. We just thought the veranda and my cooking were an ideal combo.
Rhea as proprietor and Norma as housekeeper were wonderful. Rhea met us at the airport, got us our car and drove us to the store and then the house. Norma came when we needed her. They also provided us with a local phone with some time on it - that was great. their philosophy is to leave us alone but be there if need be. When we had an issue, we contacted Norma, who lives nearby.
This is a small house, really only room for two. There is a Queen-sized bed and a small single in the main room. The Queen has one side facing the wall which makes getting up at night a bit acrobatic. Sleeping is wonderful with the surf just feet away. There are few pests, with no mosquitoes or flies. However, there are bothersome No-See-Ums at dawn and dusk although they are there all day. Protection of some kind is essential.
The pictures and other information is accurate and to the point.
There are great tour boat experiences. We strongly recommend Creole Cruises. This is a small tour boat out of Jolly Harbour. They have a great lobster lunch and tour with two snorkeling sessions and island stops. Glen, the owner, is excellent.
The write up and description Sally provided us was very accurate. We were looking for a place that was not in a high tourist area. We had plenty of privacy at the beach house and felt like we had the entire beach and bay to ourselves. Traveling around for attractions, restaurants and food markets was also easy via local transit. The beach house is very clean and well maintained with the necessities I expected for a "cottage experience". The area is safe and the people were very friendly. If you are looking for an all inclusive resort this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a place to "get away from it all" and experience the beautiful island of Antigua then the beach house is IT.
Please check out Facebook The Beach House for more photo's. We also have other rentals if you are interested.
