The third bedroom is the master bedroom and has a king bed , and a queen sleeper as well as it's separate bathroom. The laundry room is off the hallway in the master bedroom, Separate bunkhouse has children's chairs and table and toys , but could house a queen futon moved from the porch and sleep two. Great for kids. Both bathrooms in cottage have shower only. Large separate OUTDOOR shower is enclosed and 8 feet by 8 feet with hot water. Bottom line is the cottage and grounds are fishing group or family group friendly .Floating, canoeing and kayaking are all very popular .The cottage is located north of Covington, Va. and is close to two well known Resorts. The Homestead Resort, located about 20 miles north on The Sam Snead Highway(route # 220 north) has world famous golf courses and features hot springs and is located in Hot Springs. Both resorts have horse back riding, falconry, guided fishing, boating, and hiking as well as tennis and golf. The Greenbriar also has a full Casino . Both Resorts have great shopping on the premisses or in the local area for the ladies to use while the guys fish. The cottage is good any season of the year and all seasons have their particular activities that are special to the time of year. The general area includes multiple ,hiking trails, rivers ,lakes, and State Parks. The Jackson River Trail is directly across the river from the cottage at about mile marker four. You can Google the trail and see the entire nine mile trail as it follows the river upstream towards the Gathright Dam. Also, Google the Gathright Dam, Douthat State Park and the Jackson River/Kings Grant Property for additonal areas of interest.

Absolutely an incredible spot. We loved hanging out at the river and fire pit.

  • 5 of 5

We had a long weekend with our two grown sons, daughter in law, and granddaughter. What a great place to hang out and spend time together. We will all be back this summer to swim and play in the river.

Great Spot on the River

  • 4 of 5

This is a really nice property. House was clean, with plenty of linens for our large party. It is on a fantastic stretch of river. I was surprised by the amount of river front, and it is all nicely shaded. We made good use of the canoe and raft, putting in at Johnson Springs for a 4-5 hour float back to the property. The day before, some of us played golf at Cliff View Golf Club, which is about 5 minutes away. Others went mountain biking at Douthat State Park, which was a 30-40 minute drive. Owners were excellent to deal with; very responsive. Even though they had a lot on their plate, they made time to deliver the raft trailer to the property before our arrival. I recommend this rental.

a very welcoming, family oiented atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

For 3 nights a mix of family members from age 67 years to 6 months old stayed here and had a wonderful time. The kitchen was well stocked. The rooms were fresh and clean. The decorating was very tasteful. The property was beautiful and so much fun. The owner's description is right on! One suggestion is to have a latch on the sliding door of the smaller bathroom. The young teenager was very uncomfortable using a bathroom that didn't have a lock. The outdoor toys were great! We used the raft twice. Its not an easy excursion but lots of fun.

Had an amazing getaway weekend with family and friends at this beautiful home. Mike was very helpful with all my questions concerning my reservation. We utilized the kayaks and rafts that were available to us and we had a blast going down the river! This is defiantly an amazing place to take family for vacation and I will be returning next year!!

Excellent Trip/Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

As we pulled into the driveway Saturday afternoon, I thought this is great.

We explored the house and the outside porch area overlooking the river. Perfect!!!

The one member of the party called his wife and said he wasn't coming home.

As we spent most of our time fishing we did not use the camp fire. By the time we cooked and had a

few cocktails it was time to hit the sack.

As we prepared to leave, I could not find any departure instructions. I hoped we cleaned up sufficiently.

As this is an annual trip for us, we'll be back next year.

Thank you very much,

Amazing Easter vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for four days over the Easter holiday. Our group included 3 adults and two children. I can't say enough good things about this rental......literally ANYTHING you could possibly desire for entertainment is available. Just to name a few: bikes, kites, badmitton, croquet, kayaks, canoes, inner tubes, a huge inflated raft, fire pit, TEE PEE, life jackets of all sizes, every board game imaginable, and a popcorn machine. There is an entire garage that is well stocked with all of these things plus more! The front yard is huge and perfect for flying kites. All of this and you are directly on the river. We caught a few trout and floated a bit in the raft. We grilled hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire pit. Oh yeah, forgot to mention they also have long metal skewers for this purpose! The kitchen was well stocked and we had a fantastic Easter dinner. We never saw any neighbors, just a few people that kayaked past on the river. And a sweet pair of geese who seemed to live right across from the cabin. It was so peaceful. There is a glassed in porch, a screened in porch, a picnic table by the river, a swinging bench, and another seating area around an outdoor chiminea. And of course the gigantic tee pee with a fire pit inside. There is a great little store just down the road, Petticoat Junction, that sells all the basics including bait, beer, snacks, paper goods, etc. We drove a few miles out to see a HUGE 60ft waterfall (the people at Petticoat can direct you). We also went to the Greenbriar Hotel (only about 30 minutes away) and to Gathright Dam. The Dam is about 15-20 minutes away and worth the is huge and impressive. They have a neat welcome center with various artifacts.

Mike was incredibly helpful prior to our trip. He sent us brochures about the surrounding area and spoke with my husband on the phone in regards to fishing tips. We are so incredibly appreciative for all he did for our stay.

We have stayed in countless rentals over the years found through this website. This is by far the best we have come across. We can't wait to go back!

One last thing.....the beds are SUPER comfortable!
