Schiller Park Guesthouse is a new addition to the Vivas Guesthouse portfolio. This property was just renovated and features modern artistic fun decor, a remodeled bathroom, an outdoor space to relax in, living and dining room and fully stocked kitchen. A perfect home away from home.
I am a Venezuelan adopted by Columbus, which I proudly call my second hometown.
I have traveled the world extensively and my best experiences always came from small places owned and managed by people who really cared; not only about their business and their guests but also their community. With Vivas Guesthouse, I have the opportunity to make a difference to those who visit this great city and to the German Village neighborhood.
I am apart of this community; an ambassador who is eager to share my knowledge with others so they can understand why Columbus is so great! I can suggest what to see, where to eat or even cook for you myself. I am here to ensure your stay is wonderful.
I have dedicated my career to hospitality; worked for years in hotels and restaurants and wanted to get away from the cookie cutter. A destination like Vivas Guesthouse will save you from having to feel like a stranger occupying one of the hundreds of identical rooms. Vivas Guesthouse is a boutique destination that feels like home. You can use one of the many bikes to explore the neighborhood, stay in the master suite that I built with my own hands, and even cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Or even better, have me cook that meal for you. I hope you enjoy your stay.

The coolest space I found in town
A true beautiful historic space with old time details updated with a clean modern design.
Our stay at the Vivas Guesthouse was excellent. The property is conveniently located in a beautiful neighborhood just steps away from Schiller Park and several other German Village gems. The property is beautiful decorated. We were well equipped for cooking and more. We'd definitely stay again.
This house is very well thought out; with a beautiful decoration and offering everything we needed. Free wifi, cable, outdoor space. Not to mention the location; we LOVED German Village.
This place is a MUST and with an amazing host!
Our family has now stayed on both sides of Roger's guest home. It was such a nice experience vacationing in a local neighborhood and walking to Schiller Park and the shops in German Village. The home offers many amenities that are not available at a hotel. We have been pleased with both stays and will definitely stay there again.
Comfortable stay. Great walkable neighborhood to restaurants etc. Would recommend but not for small children.
However, owner did not greet us as expected and needs to address some maintainence issues. Bathtub was dirty or needs re glazing, missing screens in bedroom windows, outlet hanging out of a wall, back yard sitting area needed serious attention, no working front or back porch light.
We were in need of an extra blanket, pump for an air mattress that was in the house but missing, and a new fan as the one provided was not working. Those were brought to us, 24 hours later, due to some personal issues of the owner who said he lived right near by.
I will start with the good- I liked the neighborhood, it is near a nice park and there are a lot of pretty well maintained brick houses in the area. I liked the house itself, the layout was fine and the beds were good. Nice towels, clean sheets. Okay, now the not so good. Upon arrival, we got a key from the lockbox. It was very difficult to get in the house because the lock was so cheap and needed some WD40. As we came into the place and walked towards the kitchen, an overwhelming smell of dog, overlaid with a smell of some kind of gnarly deodorizer made me throw open the doors and try to air the joint out. (to no avail) There was a general layer of griminess throughout, particularly the downstairs. The rugs in living room and hallway leading upstairs seemed unclean. From the kitchen drawer we had to wash off gook stuck to a knife we wanted to use. The caulking around the kitchen sink was dirty and gross. Toilet seat was broken downstairs and bathroom door had no lock. There were pubes (yuck) in the shower upstairs. Although I don't use one, my step daughter would have liked a hair dryer to use. Also, there weren't any basic things like soap around. It is not so much that the host is required to supply basic toiletries, but considering that it was ultimately the same price or a bit more than a hotel, it would've been nice. The thing that is really bothersome is that it wouldn't really take very much effort for the owner to turn this place into a great place to stay. Unfortunately, it seemed like they did the bare minimum.
Home comfortably slept 6 adults. We were in town for a Columbus Bluejackets game. The home exceeded our needs as a gathering place. Loved the hard wood floors. Kitchen was adequate for cooking breakfast. There is a great bar/restaurant a few blocks away with GREAT pizza called The Red Brick. Only reason for the four stars was we had a minor ant problem in the kitchen.
On the positive side, I thought this house was in a great location. The German Village neighborhood is neat with a lot of little shops and restaurants nearby. Schiller Park, which is less than a block away, is very pretty and was a great place to take the kids to let them get out some of their energy. The downside is that this house is old and it shows in some pretty incovenient ways. First of all, pretty much none of the doors in the house shut properly or remain closed and only the upstairs bathroom actually locked. This was pretty irritating and makes you constantly paranoid that someone is going to walk in on you while you are either changing in your bedroom or using the downstairs bathroom. Even the front and back doors of the house only stay shut if they are deadbolted from inside. That in itself is unnerving because if someone goes outside, you had to choose between locking them out of the house or leaving the door to the outside slightly ajar. In addition, the heating system does not heat the house evenly so the upstairs gets very hot with the heat on while the front living room is pretty cold and drafty. In addition, all of the floorboards and stairs creak so that the acts of walking through the house at night and then having to force doors to shut to some degree can be very noisy for those trying to sleep. As for the furnishings, the home has a very aniseptic feeling and the furniture is not very comfortable. Lastly, there is not a single wash cloth in the house for bathing or in the kitchen, which is something I wish I would have known before having to choose between not using them or buying them while there. Overall, while I liked the location, I think I will be looking for alternatives the next time I'm in Columbus.
