About Roger Vivas

I am a Venezuelan adopted by Columbus, which I proudly call my second hometown.

I have traveled the world extensively and my best experiences always came from small places owned and managed by people who really cared; not only about their business and their guests but also their community. With Vivas Guesthouse, I have the opportunity to make a difference to those who visit this great city and to the German Village neighborhood.

I am apart of this community; an ambassador who is eager to share my knowledge with others so they can understand why Columbus is so great! I can suggest what to see, where to eat or even cook for you myself. I am here to ensure your stay is wonderful.

I have dedicated my career to hospitality; worked for years in hotels and restaurants and wanted to get away from the cookie cutter. A destination like Vivas Guesthouse will save you from having to feel like a stranger occupying one of the hundreds of identical rooms. Vivas Guesthouse is a boutique destination that feels like home. You can use one of the many bikes to explore the neighborhood, stay in the master suite that I built with my own hands, and even cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Or even better, have me cook that meal for you. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Warmest Regards,

Roger Vivas

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the Vivas Guesthouse was excellent. The property is conveniently located in a beautiful neighborhood just steps away from Schiller Park and several other German Village gems. The property is beautiful decorated. We were well equipped for cooking and more. We'd definitely stay again.

Lovely and convenient

This house is very well thought out; with a beautiful decoration and offering everything we needed. Free wifi, cable, outdoor space. Not to mention the location; we LOVED German Village.

This place is a MUST and with an amazing host!

Perfect little get away!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for this warm and comfy venue for our trip to Columbus. It was perfect for our needs; slept 6 comfortably; close to restaurants and drive into the city. Would recommend this townhouse to friends and family.

Ideal Location but house needs safety updates

  • 3 of 5

The location was ideal!! However, there were several hazards in the house- short uneven stairs with no railings and an open side. Unprotected fireplace aprons that caused one guest to trip and take a serious fall. Front steps with slippery pads and no railings, a lock box that required one 6 foot plus guest to stand on tip toe to access. Great price, great neighborhood, but the house was full of hazards.

No Contact

  • 1 of 5

The home itself was fine. No issues. However, I have been trying to get in touch with the owner since about 45 days before we arrived. I emailed asking if we could possibly get a refund since more than half of our party canceled. I said no big deal if not, but I wanted to ask. No response. But I got the check-in email and the email making sure I paid the second payment. On the app it says 24/7 availability for contact. The day we departed I reached out with regards to check out time. We wanted to see if we could check out about 30 minutes late and it said on the app that this might be possible. No answer. Left a voicemail. Never received a call back. After we left my husband realized that he left his jacket at the house. We were close enough to go back before our flight and also have friends in the area that were willing to pick it up. He called and left a message. No call back. At this point, I've filed a claim with VRBO. We will see what happens.

Owner's Response: At Schiller Park Guesthouse, customer satisfaction is paramount and we pride ourselves on always being available for our guests. A response was sent regarding the cancellation policy; it came along with the welcome email mentioned on the review. I was unable to return the call immediately after check out but did contact the guest (I believe the husband) in regards to the jacket and informed him that it was not found. He thanked over the phone.

Beautiful, charming stay in a quiet neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

We drove all the way from NJ overnight and arrived at 430am. Our host had no problem with us checking in that late. The lock on the door was a little tricky but we figured it out. The shower was big enough for two😉 and had great water pressure. The whole house was immaculate! We had such a lovely stay, and it gave us a real feel for our move to Columbus in July! I highly recommend staying here. Well worth it!!

This inviting and relaxing home is located in historic german village, steps away from gorgeous schiller park; a quiet, friendly neighborhood that is listed on the national register of historic places and was recognized as a preserve america community. Located just south of downtown, you will enjoy strolling through the brick streets looking at the beautiful homes and gardens throughout the neighborhood. Walk to popular fine dining at g. Michaels or barcelona or stroll down third street and visit the original max and erma's! Get a taste of germany at juergan's bavarian bakery or schmidt's sausage haus, and don't forget the cream puff! There are many other great restaurants in the area to sample, too many to mention! Set time aside to wander through the 32 rooms at the bookloft then head to schiller park for shakespeare summer theater. If you leave german village during your stay you will want to check out the brewery district, the arena district and the short north.

We are approximately 1 mile to both children’s hospital and grant hospital, 1 and 1/2 miles from the theater district and the state house, 3 miles to capital university, 5 miles to the ohio state university, and walking distance to schiller park and countless restaurants and attractions!

Less then 10 minutes from popular destinations to include nationwide arena, the columbus clippers stadium, the crew stadium, the convention center, the expo center, the state fairgrounds, the ohio state university, capital university and berliner park. Approximately 20 minutes from the columbus zoo and aquarium, ohio dominican university, rickenbacker air national guard base, hiking, golfing, dining and much more!

If interested in adventure sports, i can arrange mountain biking tours, hang gliding flights and hikes to hocking hills.
