About Martha Swartzentruber

Tobie was raised on an Amish farm here in Ohio. He decided to leave the Amish and left home on his eighteenth birthday. Martha was raised Mennonite and while we appreciate alot of the good things we were taught we left the Mennonite church three years ago. We now attend a small home group in Sugarcreek. Tobie also owns his own business called Cornerstone Masonry. We love family and realize the importance of building lasting relationships.

Martha Swartzentruber purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Martha Swartzentruber chose Ohio

When we climbed the hill to see this property it was the view that took our breath away. Then Tobie spotted a dip in the pasture outback where he envisioned a pond. We fell in love with it right away because of the country and the wide open space. We still dream of putting a pond in the pasture and putting more stone cottages around it.

What makes this cottage unique

We planned and built our brick home in 2003. A few years later we purchased the cottage where Martha's sister lived till 2012. In 2005 Martha's mother moved out in a property next to ours. It was in 2012 that we built the big brick shop and decided to put a loft on top of it. Now we are so happy that we get to share this beautiful setting with guest who want to relax and get away from the pressures of life. Nothing relaxes you quite like taking in an awesome quiet country view or enjoying a majestic sunset on a warm summer evening.

My husband and I were looking for a quiet get-away and this little cottage was the perfect place! Nestled in the heart of Amish country, the cottage was everything we imagined, from the front porch view to the wonderful breakfast provided by our hostess who was so warm and hospitable. When we arrived we were greeted with warm lighting coming from inside and chocolates (yummy) on the counter. The kitchen is well stocked and I was amazed that it was bigger than my kitchen at home! This was definitely a great find and we are already telling all our friends about this cozy place.

My husband and I wanted a simple quiet getaway to rest and be together and that is exactly what we were blessed with at the stone cottage. The cottage was VERY clean, welcoming, and had a wonderful peaceful atmosphere. Each morning breakfast was delivered to our door. We were expecting a hotel type breakfast (cereal, boiled eggs etc.) . We were so wrong...delicious, home cooked breakfast that was not only delicious but presented in such a way that we deemed the chef a food artist! Lots of details such as fishing poles and a picnic basket to use for a hike at nearby waterfalls were provided. We stayed in January so it was to cold to use them but it was a great extra to have been provided with. Martha was great, helpful, available for questions (but not intrusive), and responded quickly. She really did go above and beyond and her first class hosting skills were much appreciated.

We did not do much cooking but that was not due to an ill equipped kitchen. Everything was available to prepare any meal. The only thing I would add to the arsenal would be a tea pot.

For some reason i could not get warm all weekend (my husband was comfortable though) I was pleasantly surprised to find a cozy snuggling blanket in the bedroom closet. It smelled freshly washed too!

Sleeping at the stone cottage is divine! The temperature is perfect for sleeping, it super quiet, and since it is in the basement ( (but don't worry it doesn't look like a basement with its decor, cozy twinkle lights, and attached master bath with a first class shower and Jacuzzi tub) there is only a small tiny window with a curtain which doesn't allow the sunlight to awaken you before you want. The twinkle lights make it super cozy We are early risers and actually slept until right at 8 am.

This rental is great for a couple!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

This cabin was absolutely wonderful. My wife and I enjoyed a winter weekend getaway for her birthday and could not have been happier with everything. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need for a stay. Breakfast was delightful both days and our hosts even brushed the snow off our car for us in the morning! We highly recommend staying here and were so impressed that we immediately began discussing when we could return.
