Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms 1 king size bed, 1 queen bed, 2 bathrooms stunning mountain view

Make the most of the precious time you have to spend in Yosemite. My vacation home is within 25-35 minutes of Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove (is closed for a restoration project until Spring 2017.) and Wawona is closer: some of the most popular 'must see' places. Save yourself from a long commute and slow moving lines getting in and out of the park. Imagine the convenience of being able head down to the Valley for sight-seeing or over to Wawona for a round of golf or up Glacier Point Road for a spectacular panoramic view of the valley and half dome. There are hiking trails and wild life found through out the Park. You are sure to make memories that will last a life time.

Both families and couples have enjoined their stay here. Your biggest problem will be deciding how to spend the limited time you have here. There are so many things to do in Yosemite.

This comfortable little chalet was completed in 2011. It has 2 bedrooms (1king, 1queen) there is a sofa bed in the living room (the size of a queen bed) and 2 bathrooms (1 on each floor). With a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, lots of cookware, dishwasher, and a stainless steel propane range surround with granite counters making meals are easy. There's a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking.

Perched high on the hillside with a driveway that is steep and narrow. you do best with a car that has high clearance. However once you are parked there's a ramp you go up and ONLY 2 steps to enter OR there is a ramp going around the house to the front deck. This makes it convenient for unloading the car.

Both bedrooms have a 32' TV and a sliding glass door with access to the upper deck. The living room has a 47' TV a propane fireplace.and sliding glass door leading to the lower deck. You will have fantastic views of the pine forests and the Merced River Canyon from both inside and on the deck.

Being about 2000' higher then the Valley it is not as hot up here. There is now A/C in the house.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the steepness of the driveway, during the winter season from November 1st through April 30th, you may not be able to use the driveway due to snow. When this happens arrangements will be made for you to be able to park close by.

Why Rebecca Haynie chose Yosemite West

I discovered Yosemite West back in the 1980s when I spent a week here going cross country skiing out of Badger Pass. There is no place closer one can stay.

What makes this chalet unique

The views from here are breath taking. I find myself taking pictures of the sunset because they are beyond description.

I've been surprised with how much wild life I can see from the decks. I often hear the chipmunks before I see them. The deer enjoy snacking on the hillside and the coyotes if not seen can be heard. Neighbors have shown me pictures of bear(s) in our neighborhood but I have yet to see one in this part of the park.

There are lots of windows to fill the place with sunshine.and all offer majestic views.

Excellent location and view...a couple of minor issues

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time at this property during our visit to Yosemite. The location is excellent and the view is amazing. It is within a short drive to Yosemite Valley and served as a great "base camp" for our journeys. We did run into some issues with the property while there:

(1) The AC was not working the first 2 days/nights of our stay though it was repaired on day 3. It was quite warm upstairs with the afternoon sun and made going to sleep a bit difficult, especially for our kids.

(2) The hot water heater was not working properly during our stay. It only provided hot water for about 2-3 minutes before going cold. According to Rebecca this was an issue she was aware of and thought had been fixed. It was still not working properly by the time we left.

(3) The shades/curtains provided in the upstairs bedrooms are not adequate to block out the heat from the sun. Those rooms are probably 8-10 degrees warmer than the downstairs area of the house. The upper windows seem to be the biggest issue (especially in the master bedroom) since there are no shades on them at all.

(4) The driveway is incredibly steep as other reviewers mentioned. We did run into a couple of issues with the shared drive being blocked by neighbors and had to ask them to move their vehicles. It would be helpful if there were a sign letting the neighbors know that the driveway is shared.

We enjoyed our stay and were able to work through the issues above. Everything else was well appointed - great kitchen supplies, etc. I do think black out curtains for the large windows upstairs and the sliding doors would make a huge difference!

Beautiful home, great location.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with another couple had a great time visiting Yosemite. We wanted to stay in the valley, however it was very expensive and we did not feel like camping. This home in Yosemite West offered a wonderland alternative. We could be in the valley in about 20 minutes. The house had all the comforts of home (did NOT have to wait in line for a shower), plus allowed us to eat some of our meals (breakfast and dinner) in a comfortable setting. The one very minor challenge was getting up the driveway with the vehicle we had, which in my opinion was under-powered. The driveway is fairly steep with some cinders at the bottom, so we kept spinning our wheels trying to get up the slope. We did use an alternative neighbors access which worked out fine. Overall a wonderful experience.

Great location, great property!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect! Location could not have been better- saved us a ton of time not having to drive in/out of the park everyday, was centrally located between the valley and glacier point, had to drive by tunnel point to get in/out of the valley. The house was nicely stocked with pots/pans/cooking supplies, oil, basic spices. The property was also private, quiet, clean, and having laundry was nice! Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Very nice three day trip

  • 5 of 5

The place was exactly as described: clean, comfortable, and somewhat secluded. We really appreciated the property manager reaching out to us a day ahead to let us know there was a winter storm coming through and recommending grabbing tire chains before we came. The house has beautiful views and all the accomodations for a a comfortable stay. The internet is spotty if that's important to you, but we would stay at this place again.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely house within the Yosemite NP area. Loved the evening sunsets. The write up is accurate about the spotty internet access, as it was hit and miss during the day but fine from midnight to 5 AM. When coming up the driveway, do use the second entrance to get up the drive, this was not intuitive. Otherwise this was a great place, good beds, full kitchen with complete accessories, and close to Glacier Point Rd. The sights of Yosemite are phenominal and we had a great time.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a great location to enjoy the park and a nice house. We had a rough start with the cleaning staff not having the house ready, but Mary Ann, contacted them and took care of the situation right away.

We happened to be there during an extremely hot time and the house doesn't have air conditioning. That was a little bit of a problem, so I would make sure she has added this before going during the hot summer.

Beautiful area!

Car: necessary

My vacation home is located inside Yosemite park eliminating the need to wait in line for re-entry. It is among the closest accommodations to the major attractions such as Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Wawona Golf Course, the Mariposa Grove (which is closed for Restoration till July 2017) and various trail heads. I allow 30 minutes to get down to the Valley a little longer to get to the Golf Course, When I go to the Mariposa Grove I'll park my car at the Wawona store and take the shuttle bus.

I would advise anyone staying in Yosemite West and preparing their own meals, to do their grocery shopping before they enter the park. There are grocery stores in the Valley and at the Wawona store but most of the prices are higher.

Then there are restaurants, from the dining room at the Ahwahnee to the pizza deck in Curry Village

IF at all possible I would recommend one stays at least a week because there is so much to do. In the Valley I would recommend parking your car in the Day Use Parking then taking the free shuttle bus around.

A popular place is the Ahwahnee, a 4 diamond hotel which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Dinning used to require a jacket for men but has eased up on that tradition and now collard shirts for men and woman may wear dress or slacks and blouse. Historic Ahwahnee Tours are also available.

The visitor center is a must stop. The staff is always helpful with how to plan your stay in Yosemite. They can also tell you about the ranger's program and Interpretive walks

There's a bookstore and museum near by.

There's the Ansel Adams Gallery which offers photography workshops and a camera walk (class size & availability are limited).

You are in Bear country which means food may only be inside your car (out of sight, widows completely closed) during daylight hours. Remember to clear your car of food wrappers, crumbs in baby seats, and baby wipes. Even canned food and drinks must be removed from your car.
