About the property

Spacious, bright and warm 5 Bedroomed home practically inside the National Park

Our architecturally built house, within walking distance to the National Park and 5 minutes drive from Killarney town centre, is just four years old and has been finished to a very high standard. It is spacious, bright and warm and, despite being a large house, retains a cosy atmosphere. Although it is new and quite modern, the house has a country classic look which makes it very comfortable.There is underfloor heating throughout giving a constant temperature all year round. The large windows make the whole house very bright and allow guests to enjoy the wonderful garden and it’s private setting even from indoors.

In 2014 we renovated all 5 bedrooms! - they were newly painted/papered and all have gorgeous new furniture and soft furnishings - each have a unique style and feel -

On offer to our guests are:


Entrance Hall- spacious and welcoming with it's beautiful curved staircase and gallery,

Kitchen/Dining Room - open plan, with everything for the amateur chef including a 7 ring gas stove with three ovens and a large handmade dining table made from reclaimed wood, easily seating 8-10 people and looking out across the entire back garden.

Living Room - open to kitchen, this is a large, high ceilinged room, with an L-shaped leather couch, LCD TV and DVD player and a beautiful gas stove to cosy up the evenings.

Sitting Room – elegant evening room with a HD projector and cinema screen for the home theatre.

All these rooms also have a built-in central music system.

Laundry room – with washing machine, dryer and freezer.

Study- just off the kitchen/living area, with bureau for you to work at on the computer provided.

Please Note: Although our home is wired for internet and is usually fine for basic usage, this is rural Ireland and the connection can be unreliable at times so please do not rely on it for important work etc. There is free WiFi in the town centre and in all the hotels nearby if ours should not be working during your stay.

Mobile phone coverage is perfect in the area but you may find it difficult to use your phone inside the house itself as our walls are so thick the signal has trouble coming through!! Simply standing outside or near a window does the trick!


Master Bedroom 1 - Super King size Bed, high ceilings,TV and ensuite.

The couch in the living room can fold out into a double bed if necessary and there is also a double Futon in the attic gallery/den.

Family Bathroom - with separate walk-in shower and steel bath.

Downstairs Bathroom - with walk-in shower.


A large, well established garden surrounds the house with many beautiful birch and willow trees. There is a swing & slide set, a playhouse, a ‘fairy ring’ and a fire pit good for a bonfire as well as a big Australian style Barbeque on the sheltered Patio which also has loudspeakers and heaters over the table. Alongside the stone water feature and slate chippings, the many and varied plants and trees bring much colour to the garden throughout the year.

For your convenience, the final clean as well as all utilities are covered in the rates.

You can even order your groceries in advance, to be delivered on your arrival date from our local Tesco supermarket.

Though quiet and rural, in an area of Ireland famed for the beauty of its mountains and lakes, the house is also close to all the amenities of the bustling town of Killarney.

The ideal retreat for families, golfers, hikers and bikers, cyclists, adventurers, fishermen, artists and of course anyone interested in history, culture and music and general good Irish craic!

About Rod and Fiona Stewart

We are a young family of four - we built this house as our family home and have spared no expense on it, also investing lots of time, effort and love in making it the perfect house. We hope you will love it as we do.

Why Rod and Fiona Stewart chose Killarney

Although not locals (Fiona from Cork and Rod from Australia) we have always had a special place in our heart for beautiful Killarney and even chose to get married here - we settled here in 2009 when we were lucky enough to buy this amazing spot and build our dream house on it - we love being so close to spectacular nature but also the proximity to so many activities, restaurants, bars and shops, not to mention the amazing Golf Courses.

This town is wonderful for any age group and for almost every interest and our home is close enough to make the most of everything while still being in a rural setting so we have the best of both worlds.

What makes this house unique

Architecturally designed, the house has - Large open plan rooms with high ceilings, underfloor heating throughout, beautiful big windows overlooking the established private garden.

We have put in the highest standard of appliances and interiors and although practical, the house has an elegant and luxurious atmosphere and somehow also has a cosy and traditional feel to it.

We especially love the trees and the garden as well as our curved stairway and gallery and our opulent evening Sitting Room with it's cinema screen. The children have plenty of space to run around and can play safely in the garden on their swings and slide once the gate is shut.

We had an amazing stay at this property. The pictures do not do the property justice!

Large home on a large and beautiful piece of property near Killarney.

The house was well equipped with everything needed to have a nice stay. Appliances, linens, and dishes were new. They have a really nice espresso/coffee machine as well!

Would recommend this home to anyone, we are hoping to be able to return!

Awesome family stay in Killarney!

Thanks to Fiona and Rod Stewart for sharing their gorgeous home with us! We were two couples and four 20-somethings for 3 nights in Killarney in the middle of our Ireland adventure. The home was truly a luxury accommodation with plenty of room for everyone to spread out, both inside and out. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed with all the amenities you'd expect. The kitchen and patio were both perfect for big dinners at home and the large farm table saw many hours of family time. The home was in a quiet area that allowed for true relaxation while still be close to town and all the fun. The taxi companies all knew where to find us when we told them we were staying at Scartlea House. We had a great time and would love to come back and spend more time in the Killarney area, there's still so much we didn't see.

Perfect Vacation Spot

This is a lovely, well-appointed, and well maintained house close to many of the top holiday destinations in County Kerry. Perfect for a group of friends or a family gathering, the house is very comfortable and, while in a fairly rural (beautiful!) location, is very convenient for shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful stay and hope to return.

A dream rental

We stayed in Scartlea House in late June 2017. It was a tremendous experience. Every member of our party and those that visited us were impressed by the attention to detail. From the tremendous space of the house, to the beautiful backyard to everything provided from ample cutlery to towels to scones upon our arrival to the manual that explains all the amenities to the TV room with the projector, everything was top class. My daughter without being prompted filled in the guest book saying how much she loved the house. We plan on coming back to Scartlea on a future trip. Fiona and Rod have a gem of a house and we would highly recommend

KILLARNEY TOWN: We are a five minute drive/20 minute pleasant cycle to Killarney town, the jewel in Ireland's crown, and is arguably the one must see place in the country. Tourists have flocked to our lively and colourful little town for centuries on account of the amazing nature and, accordingly, the town has a huge range of bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels offering fine dining, drinking and entertainment. The centre is small but always atmospheric and there is a particular buzz in the town which attracts both foreigners and tourists from around Ireland.

Although best known for it's outdoor activities, for the less adventurous (or exhausted) traveller, Killarney offers cosy pubs with great music, a 6 screen cinema, good shopping and many hotel spas and leisure centres open to non-residents. For the kids, there are indoor and outdoor playgrounds. The INEC also hosts well known artists for music, comedy and theatre.

Whether you are coming for activity, music and “craic”(Irish for fun, to be found in pubs year round), relaxation, history or nature, Killarney and our beautiful home will not disappoint you.

COUNTY KERRY: County Kerry is known all over the world for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Known as 'The Kingdom', Kerry is one of the most stunning and varied counties in all of Ireland, offering wild coastline, dense woodlands, pristine beaches, wonderful mountains and calm lakes.

Wherever you go in County Kerry, you will be greeted with a a smile and a song, plenty of stories and the famous Cead Mile Failte (a hundred thousand welcomes) of the Irish and, in particular, of the people of this magical place.


Close to Home:

The house is just minutes from Killarney National Park, known worldwide for the beauty of its lakes and mountains, with over 10,000 hectares full of interesting walks, cycles, hill walks etc. as well horse riding, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, photography and wildlife spotting (e.g. wild deer and eagles). For the less active visitor, the area can also be seen by traditional horse and cart, car or tour boats.

Within 5 minutes drive of our house you will find, not only Killarney town with its many shops, cafes and pubs as well as the beautiful Cathedral, but also some beautiful nature and sightseeing. Here are some ideas:

Muckross National Park– is huge and its extensive gardens have both beautiful plants and spectacular scenery of the lake and mountains - you can cycle or walk around here or visit Muckross House, the mansion built for Queen Victoria and now a Museum. There are many different walks and you can even paddle in the lake at a little ‘beach’ there. There is also a nice Restaurant and gift shop. In the summer months the lovely Traditional Farms are open with an insight into the old Irish ways and homes, as well as animals and fun activities for children.

Muckross Abbey, an ancient ruin and graveyard overlooking the lake just down the road.

Torc Mountain - with its spectacular waterfall. The waterfall is only about 5 minutes walk from the car park but you can also climb to the top in about 3 hours or if you are brave, you can walk all the way to Kenmare on the old road – about 5 hours!

Ten minutes from us:

Ross Castle:on a peninsula lovely to walk/cycle around and has one of Europe’s oldest copper mines. The Medieval Castle itself can be visited and a favourite with locals is to feed the ducks here! There are boats from here which take you to Inisfallen Island with its interesting 7th Century Monastery. The little boats can also take you for a fantastic trip through all the lakes and amazing scenery to Lord Brandon’s cottage where there is a cafe.

Knockreer Estate - a beautiful walk with fantastic scenery. If you wish, you can walk/cycle all the way from here to Ross castle along a river and through the woods.

Gap of Dunloe - most people walk or cycle the Gap, an amazing place of beauty...or you can also get a ride on a horse and cart – you will see why tourists already came here hundreds of years ago!

Outdoor Activities: This is the place to come for the great outdoors and you will not be short of opportunities for anything from mountain biking to hill walking and canoeing/kayaking on the Killarney Lakes or Kite-surfing on our sandy beaches.

Golf/Fishing: Killarney is great for golf with some of the best courses in the country (the Irish Open was held here the last few years). If you like Golfing you must try the Killarney Golf Club which also is a fishing club. The Beaufort Golf Course is also stunning.

Fishing is popular both on the lakes and in our rivers - you will find Salmon, Sea trout and brown trout
