About Bill UpNorth...

In 1994 I relocated from a busy Metro area to beautiful Leelanau County with the dream of providing couples and families with clean and comfortable lodging that was affordable.

Being an 'Innkeeper' and seeing smiles on our guests faces year after year is very rewarding to us, especially when you hear a child ask their parents 'can we come back to the Cottage next year?'

Bill UpNorth... purchased this chateau / country house in 1994

Why Bill UpNorth... chose Suttons Bay

We are situated in the heart of one of the most magnificent areas. When I found our 'Hobby Farm' included was what once was a 100+ year-old Granary. I visualized a comfy Country Guesthouse for travelers in Spring, Summer & Fall that was centered in our magnificent Leelanau County.

After a complete renovation and more than 18-months of hard work, LEELANAU COUNTRY COTTAGE accommodated their first guests receiving many compliments.

We have since welcomed Tourists locally and far away, Winery Touring guests, many bicycle enthusiasts and even folks from Europe wishing to see the splendor of our area.

Folks from all around bring their bicycles to enjoy riding on The Leelanau Trail which is inter-connected to the many TART Trails that run through our region. You can be a casual rider or an avid cyclist and find the scenery and winding Trail is breathtaking, pleasant and maintained for everyone's use.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We are close to 9+ Wineries and Tasting Rooms, immediately adjacent to the fresh pavement of THE LEELANAU TRAIL and just minutes away from 'postcard perfect' freshwater beaches.

We WILL re-book with alternative visiting dates upon 'reasonable' notice. While we strive for efficiency, IF we make a mistake in any reservation, we will be liable for amounts that we received as a prepaid deposit only. We will make every effort to re-book your stay with alternative dates at no additional charge.

The only place we will stay when we go to the Traverse City area!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this gem at least four times now, it's like a home away from home when we return. Bill makes sure we have everything we need, he is the most gracious host. We love it, so peaceful. It's exactly what we need to escape running our own business for a few days.

Owner's Response: You are always welcome here... eggs or no eggs! Just know that we do enjoy the treat of fresh eggs! Mmmmm! It's always good talking with you both. We hope that you have a great Autumn and great Holidays when they come to us again. Thank you for patronizing us and having kind words too. We try to make people happy. See you again when you get up this way! Have a great year, Bill UpNorth...

Clean & well kept, great hospitality & communication from landlord

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with my wife and 4 small children, the country cottage sits adjacent to the Leelanau Trail and near many wineries, short drive to Suttons Bay. Everything felt so peaceful and restorative as time seemed to slow down during our stay. The landlord Bill was very informative to find places off the beaten path as we decided to explore a few local beaches and trails. The cottage was clean, well maintained and in working order. No complaints, planning to come back soon. Highly recommended for peace and quiet, especially if you're interested in utilizing the trail or a home base to visit the local gems (beaches, wineries, towns, food).

Not Bad

  • 3 of 5

We loved that cottage was centrally located to various towns in Leelanua county. We also liked that we could walk to Leelanua Trail as it was at end of driveway. The outside area around cabin could stand for a good mowing and tree trimming. Drove thru low hanging tree branches as pulling in or out of cottage driveway area and due to overgrowth of tree branches into deck area we were not able to enjoy sitting out on deck. Bill was friendly and helpful and overall we did enjoy our stay.

Owner's Response: As I explained when you all arrived... We have had an awful lot of rainfall up here and keeping up with the grass is not possible because it is usually too wet. This did not bother you when you arrived so I do not understand why this would bother you now?? Two years ago we had one lightbulb out... last year we did not have a 'jet flush' toilet, this year the grass needs to be cut. Oh well... I can't make everyone happy all the time. There is always one every year that I can not please. Maybe next year we'll be 'perfect'.

Bill was very friendly and gave me some good information about the area. He also was very accommodating to special requests like using an iron and brought it right over when I contacted him. Great experience overall.

Great location with everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We took a girls trip for a few days and stayed at this lovely cottage. It has everything you need. We thought we would be disappointed not being on the water, but turns out we did not mind at all! The beach was a short drive away. We loved being able to grill out and roast marshmallows in the evenings. Stay here, and you will enjoy your vaca!

Leelanau County Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely private, country setting. We enjoyed the late evenings with it being light out until 10:00 p.m. We loved being able to have bonfires. And no mosquitoes!!! The close proximity to the bike trails was a plus. Other activities we took advantage of were kayaking, beach combing, hiking, climbing the dunes, picnics, and shopping.

Owner's Response: Bed, Very happy to have your family with us! Yes, the Trail is popular and folks that like to bike always use it at the end of our driveway. Thank you for mentioning 'NO mosquitos!!' We are both familiar with those pesky biting things down South so having them absent up here is a very welcome time. I am happy that your visit was pleasant. You are always welcome here! My best to you, Bill UpNorth...
