The Eyrie is built with rimu, pine, and po-lite. It was built partially by a builder and partially by the initial owner. This owner was no builder. He was a doctor who was always designing and making things. Most of the cupboards and furniture was made by him. The Eyrie has a 1950s working septic tank and grease trap, walls covered by sea life and paua shells. The fold away chairs and table are from the 1960s, as are the cane and leather covered chairs. A basic and humble bach that offers direct sea access via a steep path, stunning views, bird life, peace and privacy. The Eyrie is accessed off a sealed road via a path down from the parking area. It unashamedly offers a no frills real classic holiday.

Located in the bay before Akaroa Township it is only approx. 5 minutes? drive to the centre of the village of Akaroa and all it offers , and is well suited to those wanting to explore the beautiful Bank Peninsula region.

Tourist activities include both dolphin watching and swimming with dolphins, guided kayaking, fishing and swimming, hiking, walks and a relaxed village around which you can just stroll and enjoy the views, the people, the atmosphere...

There?s a good children?s playground if travelling with children, beaches for playing in and a pleasant drive by car to the outer bays of the Peninsula will find some of the best unspoilt beaches in Canterbury. Banks Peninsula even has a couple of hidden surfing spots which are world renown. The village also boasts a decent sized supermarket, many cafes, and a host of wonderful restaurants. The safe bay also offer great walks and hikes, along with boutique shopping, galleries, wineries and the famous Barry Point cheese factory.

Akaroa is 1,5 hours from Christchurch city, and has a regular mini-bus service operating between Christchurch City, and both the International and Domestic airports if you?re arriving from another city.

Had a great stay, very tranquil setting, bird life amazing around the Bach, had our own private showing of a Hector dolphin in the bay below the batch beautiful.

But.... the toilet smell abit over powering, I think septic tank may need a clean out.I am no stranger to long drops, having been brought up in the country, but this smell off putting.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback. It is appreciated. Every year the septic tank is emptied twice a year. Recently maintenance was done on the lower part of the waste management system, and shortly the upper part will be done as well. Sometimes visitors do not follow the instructions given and this does affect visitors coming along behind them.

Beautiful location. The first afternoon and night were less enjoyable because the water tank took 24 hours to fill. After that it was a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: I really appreciated your patience on this. The Council had contracted someone to attach us all up to the permanent water supply, however, the contractor had left everyone's taps turned off up on the road unbeknownst to me. I am really sorry you had to suffer through that. In the meantime I have had the plumber in to check the water pressure as it is lower than it was before the changeover.
