The cottage is an exceptionally clean home with satillo tile floors downstairs, and solid oak floors upstairs. Twelve feet of french doors face the lake for a beautiful view, and the first floor has a 9 ft ceiling. This 1040 sq ft cottage is secluded and comes fully furnished. Kitchen has stainless appliances and black marble tiled countertops and bar, with 4 bar stools. PlantationShutters cover the windows. Very comfortable plush king bed upstairs. Master bath has travertine floor, and a walk in tiled shower with dark emperador marble. Beautiful Tiffany-style lighting over the bar and over the sink as well as a chandelier over the dining table adds to the ambiance. Open living area on first floor which includes a queen sofa bed, washer and dryer, and a small desk. Facing the lake, is a beautiful screened & covered pergola over patio with a beautiful and comfy swingbed. Flat screen HDTV DVR with satellite on first floor and flat screen TV with satellite DVR connection and DVD player in bedroom. AT&T Fixed Wireless for 250GB wifi throughout cottage. Vaulted ceiling in stairway with solid oak stairs.

The lake is spring fed and is good for fishing, canoeing and Kayaking. Unlike some lakes in the North Central FL area, this lake is at normal/average water level, and averages as much as 25+ ft deep. Please, no gas motors in order to preserve the lake pristine. There is no boat ramp on this property because boats larger than a jon boat or canoe are not allowed, and again, gas motors are not allowed. The cottage comes equipped with 2 kayaks, peddle boat, canoe, jon boat, and several used bicycles, and bicycle helmets. Lakeside near waters edge there is a 10x10 screened gazebo, and a firepit near the water, lawn chairs as well as 2 very nice cushioned lounge chairs. One large umbrella on dock. There is a newer dock that is approximately 80 ft. long above water at all times, plus an additional dock extending it out another 50+ feet depending on water level. It is sometimes under water.

I receive many compliments on how the cottage is 'just like home' being very well appointed with furnishings that are consistent with home and is not only clean, but smells clean. The cottage is meticulously cleaned after each guest.

*COVID-19 Cleaning Procedures: We take the cleaning of the cottage very seriously and want to provide our guests with a safe environment. We wash ALL linens and towels at our home in a larger washer with extra hot water in a 2 hour cycle. I have always done this as it is the only way to thoroughly clean linens and towels, using detergent and some bleach. All rugs are washed, and clean rugs are put out for new guests. Area rug in living room is cleaned with a carpet cleaner between guests.
After each guest, extensive cleaning with disinfectants (CDC guidelines) of ALL Door handles, controls and switches (e.g. light switches, cooking controls, television controls, remote, fan pull chains, washer/dryer controls), Stair Handrail, Bathroom: toilet flush handles, toilet seats, sinks, sink and shower levers. Pump soap and shampoo bottles, house keys
Furniture such as chairs, tables, and parts of the bed frames
Appliances
Cleaning equipment handles such as vacuum cleaner and broom/mop
Guest information, brochures
Clean sponge for kitchen use for each new guest

Community Information
This lake is situated in a community of 3 lakes. The lake properties are heavily wooded and mostly secluded. There is an abundance of oak tree's, many 'dripping' with spanish moss. It is a 'golf cart community' and ideal for riding bicycles or walking/jogging. There are a number of wild animals and birds in the area, and seeing eagles fishing in the lakes is a common sight. Eagles, ospreys, hawks, swallow-tailed kite birds, and turkeys are abundant, deer, sand hill cranes, and fox are all seen in the community. Looking out the window above the kitchen sink and surrounding the front entrance, is a beautiful English butterfly garden, which also attracts hummingbirds. (Hummingbirds are typically here between March and early September)

Thirty-five minutes from the University of Florida.

Reserve early for the UF Gator football home games or graduations in Gainesville, FL . It is sure to be an exciting season! Go Gators! Or, whichever team you are a fan of!

Cyclists: The Gainesville/Hawthorne Bike Trail (Rails to Trails) is located a short 8 miles from the cottage in Hawthorne.

The bike trail will eventually border this wonderful preserve that has beautiful old live oaks. It will be available for various events such as weddings and family reunions.

Outstanding Host
We stayed at the cottage during the month of February. Mary, our host, was exemplary! Always friendly and attentive to any need/question. What a lovely lady. Home was very clean and the location quiet and peaceful. If you like ‘rails to trails’ biking, the Hawthorne/Gainsville trail is plenty fun. My husband and I enjoyed our stay.

Magical holiday escape
This cottage is a lil slice of heaven away from the sound of cars and hustle of city life! My husband, fur son, and I stayed at the cottage for three days leading up to Christmas. The cottage is clean and well stocked with linens, towels and toiletries. The screened in patio with the charming porch swing is where we spent the majority of our time lounging and forgetting about our troubles over cocktails. The waterfront area includes a long dock and tons of water "toys" and even another screened in mini patio. The king bed was fluffy and cozy with blankets and pillows! My fur son enjoyed sniffing, trotting, and chasing lizards around the giant fenced in property. Mary was very kind and helpful at check in. Couldn't recommend her sweet and secluded place more, especially if you need the escape like we did.

Lakeside retreat
Property was exactly as advertised. Well appointed and had more than enough household items. The owner was very pleasant and personally gave us the rundown on the property. Should we return to the area we will stay again.

Cute and sophisticated
Loved staying at this secluded, wonderful cottage. It's a little far away from Gainesville but the roads are fast. Hawthorne is a decent little town and is only a few minutes away. The cottage is cozy and well appointed. Kayaking on the lake was awesome.

I am married, and retired from the University of Florida. I enjoy traveling, and would like to offer my guests the amenities in rental homes that I have enjoyed over the years in my travels, primarily snow skiing, and boating. I love the water and boating, and have spent my adult life on a lake close-by to the cottage. I love animals, and currently have only birds (umbrella cockatoo, cockatiels, sun conure, & zebra finches). I enjoy meeting and talking to people, and try to offer my guests the best possible experience at the cottage.

Why they chose this property

We purchased the 1.7 acres on this beautiful lake and built the cottage. I enjoy the gentle breezes that blow across the property and up to the patio. It is peaceful, tranquil, and secluded with lots of wildlife and birds. A very nice place to slow down and unwind.

What makes this property unique

The property is secluded and quiet. Most of my guests have commented on how quiet the area is with no traffic, which is a unique commodity not found in many parts of FL. The cottage is very well appointed, decorated and very clean. A nice place to 'get away from it all'. Kayaking, canoeing, or fishing is such a delight on this beautiful lake. You can see the fish swimming around the dock! Stargazing/meteor showers, full moon nights, campfires, or sitting on the dock provides great fun. The cottage sits far away from the city and its' lights... and noise. You may see one or 2 cars pass by in a days' time, if you happen to be looking!
