Overview

Photos and Description of this Oamaru holiday house

Bach or holiday home, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 2)

Now with unlimited WiFi.

Experience staying in Oamaru's smallest, cutest house, with a beautiful backyard garden, an interior to treat the artist's eye, and expansive views across sea and sky to lift the soul.

Remember simple pleasures? Watch the sun rise out of the sea from your bed, lounge in the bath, read a book for hours, picnic on the lookout, or let the open views inspire you to paint, write, or take up meteorology. Walk down to the movies (10 min), then sit on the tiny front deck watching the twinkling lights of town. A new TV has satellite Freeview, plus DVD.

Explore unique historic Oamaru, with its unbroken streetscapes of both the grand and the workaday architecture of the 1800s, all built in the local whitestone, and much of it looking as if it had been transported from Ancient Greece. In the old harbourside area, artists and traditional craftspeople have set up shop in the former warehouses. Many of them wear period costumes.

Oamaru has a good network of walking trails. The skyline trail follows the ridge above the bach across farmland. Towards town includes the old and beautifully kept public gardens. Then past town to volcanic Cape Wanbrow, overlooking the harbour. Blue Penguins (the world's smallest) and Yellow Eyed Penguins (one of the world's rarest) can both be seen around the cape.

The district is one of stunning natural beauty, with lush rolling farmland, empty surf beaches, and snowy ridges inland. Spend a day on the self-guided Fossil Trail exploring ancient marine landscapes, (including the famous Moeraki Boulders), or in the beautiful Waitaki River valley. You could do something different every day for weeks - my personal favourites are detailed in the visitor information in the bach.

Because I feel that The Paintbox is so suited for retreats, either creative or spiritual, I offer cheap long-term rates in winter. The bach is very easy to heat and power is included.

Special conditions:

Usual arrival time is after 4pm and departure before 11am. This allows the caretaking staff to keep the standards high. Please ask if you need an exception to this.

A minimum 2 night stay applies all year, thank you.

Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$30.00 per stay); Linen (Optional, NZ$12.00 per person);

The property fits the description.

The property fits the description....... but could do with some comfortable seating. Space is a constraint, with all the collection of trinkets and hard chairs I found it hard to relax. Great anecdote to share with friends etc.

Great little cottage, perfect for one person and my wee dog loved the fenced yard.

Great little cottage, perfect for one person and my wee dog loved the fenced yard. Great view and great location.Lots of character and easy to heat. Only thing it really needed was a shower (which would use less water than the bath). I know space is limited but one over the bath would be good. Even one that attached to the bath taps.

Will be back
