The Neighborhood

About Kalkan:

Situated on the Turquoise Coast of the Mediterranean, Kalkan has become a venue for the more discerning visitor. With the absence of mass tourism, Kalkan remains a charming and unspoiled haven of lush nature, brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, historic architecture, ancient history and warm traditional Turkish hospitality.

The historic town of Kalkan is an enchanting place and one of the most beautiful locations along Turkey 's gorgeous Lycian Coast. Kalkan is an old fishing town, famous for its white-washed houses descending to the sea and its brightly colored bougainvilleas.

With much of the surrounding land still undeveloped and with many nearby remains of ancient civilizations, Kalkan (kahl-KAHN) is the ideal resort for those who want calm and relaxation, enjoy the natural beauty of the cleanest seashores, of rough mountains covered with pine forests.

It is also perfect for those who want to explore the remains of the cities of ancient Lycia, "The Land of Light", the first known federation in history, between modern day Fethiye and Antalya.

Kalkan has typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and warm wet winters. The sea water temperature rarely drops below 16C, thus enabling swimmers 9 months of bathing season. The day-time maximum temperature during summer is 35-40C and 14-16C during winter. Kalkan typically has low humidity and is preferred by locals and visitors alike for its health-giving benefits.

There is now over 100 restaurants in "Old Kalkan". Travel agencies, restaurants, bars, one or two nightclubs, hotels, apartments and private villas are all present. Celebrities such as Daniel Craig, Princess Diana, Robbie Williams, Sting, Anna Friel, Kelsey Grammer have visited Kalkan.
