We've stayed several places in the area, and this was one of the best! Very comfortable and well-appointed home with a Chef's kitchen and all the amenities. Easy access to the river and in close proximity to great fishing areas. We enjoyed this property as part of a romantic holiday weekend, but we are anxious to bring our kids back with us next time!
This was our first experience to use VRBO and we were very apprehensive, however this rental turned out to be above and beyond our expectations. We wanted for nothing. The kitchen is completely stocked, large flat screen tv, pool table, every kind of bar b que pit (charcoal, propane, wood, smoker). Rick answered any questions we had promptly. It was fantastic that we were able to keep our car in the garage, my family visited and we played pool, had dinner, walked the river bank and, in general, had a most relaxing visit and vacation. Everything in the house was in working order, the bed was super comfortable, the air conditioning control very user friendly. This home is well cared for including the grounds areas. We loved the fact it was on a large piece of property without neighbors looking in the windows. It is very private which was important to us because in Texas we live in the country and are not used to people living close to us. We can hardly wait to return next year. Our many thanks to Rick for providing such a wonderful place. Sorry this review is late, I was so excited to write about our experience in a review, that I actually wrote one while we were on our return trip home from my cell phone but it must not have posted. I HIGHLY recommend this property and can see why it is "frequently booked".
p.s. One of my FAVORITE things every day was to watch the train go by in the afternoon across the river as it hugged the wall of the cliff !
We absolutely loved staying at troutfest! It is the right amount of secluded (there are neighbors but you'd never know it), very clean and accommodating, right on the river with easy access to it, great fishing spot, and the owner was very helpful! My husband and I spent our 2 year anniversary here and we were able to bring our dog. It was a blast!! Pretty sure our dog didn't want to leave either! We will definitely be back!
Family had a great time. Very clean and comfortable. The owner provided some excellent advice on a great fishing location. This is my second time staying. Highly recommended.
Really a beautiful place. Spent 5days with wife and I and our three kids (16, 18, 20). The kids enjoyed kicking back at the house practicing pool and watching the Olympics while Mom and I fished. On the first day we were guided by Don Cranor just below the dam on the White (0-10min) and caught an estimated ~35-40 trout, with ~10 browns to 3lbs and one super heavy duty 5-1/2 lb rainbow! The remainder of the days we fished the nearby (<10min) Norfork and caught another +60 rainbows. I have no doubt there are multitudes of quality fish behind the house, it looks very fishy, but our lack of expertise couldn't be overcome. I would recommend to any inexperienced fisherfolk to pay very close attention to the power generation schedule at Bull Shoals, there is about a +3' difference from generating to non-generating river heights at the house (~42mi).
The mornings generally started out with a fresh cup of coffee sitting at the picnic table looking down towards the river. Every night we cooked outside (gas grill, charcoal grill, fish fry) and then headed in for the nightly "kids get killed by Dad" pool games. It was great fun.
The area is very quiet. The property was extremely clean and very well-maintained.
As this was our first time in the Ozarks, I have no hesitation to recommend this property and the general area to family, friends.
