About this property

Imagine waking up in the morning to the soothing sound of the gentle lapping of waves on the beach. Only seconds later from your Studio, you could be enjoying the first swim of the day in the incredibly blue & calm sea of Hoopers Bay - undisturbed by any other people & only a Green Turtle or two that may notice you.
Later, take out one of our kayaks to further explore the bay or spend some time snorkeling.
Too much activity? Then just relax & unwind on one of our beach loungers or sea-floats until time comes for a cool drink.

Our BEACHFRONT Economical Studio/Efficiency has a Queen bed, kitchenette with 2 hot rings, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc etc. Shower room with WC and Handbasin, dining table and chairs, Loveseat, A/C and ceiling fan, flat screen cable TV with several major channels, radio/CD player. A/C and ceiling fan ensure our guests comfort.
We were pleased to have won the travellers choice, and certificates of excellence awards for many years from the largest worldwide trip advisory site and based on our guests satisfaction.
Outside there is a private sea-facing patio with outdoor table and chairs for relaxing or al-fresco meals.
Just a few seconds through our palm tree garden is the beautiful Hoopers Bay beach-regarded as the BEST TO STAY ON EXUMA and the only beach with resident GREEN TURTLES to watch or swim with !!
The 1/2 mile ( 1km ) long, soft white sandy beach slopes gently into the amazing blue, calm and safe sea for swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing on our loungers and chairs. For the more energetic, we have FREE Kayaks for our guests to enjoy exploring more of the protected bay.
Although we are quietly located, the International airport is only 10 minutes away ( our dedicated taxi driver will greet you there) whilst the capital, George Town is 6 minutes away. No need to drive or taxi to shops as we have a good range within a 5 minute easy walk for groceries, butcher and deli, pharmacy and liquor.
Flying to George Town airport ( GGT ) is straightforward with DIRECT daily flights on AA and United & Delta. Air Canada has DIRECT flights from Toronto during the winter season. More locally, there are several flights each day from Nassau on Bahamasair or Western Air.
As we live nearby, we personally welcome our guests and are available when required to help with information or to arrange activities such as boat trips, etc.

Excellent beach front vacation

Beautiful location on Hoopers Bay. Peter was a very friendly and accommodating host. He had a lot of very useful suggestions and advice. It was a nice, relaxing place to stay !

Best spot on the island

The location of this property is perfect. Steps from hoopers bay, a short walk or drive to the grocery store. Our room had everything we needed. We can’t wait to go back. Owners are so helpful and friendly! My absolute best vrbo experience so far. 10 stars!!

Relaxing stay

We came to relax and to get away from busyness of life. My husband was able to work on his book, and i was able to relax, swimm, read books, take photos and get ideas to photograph and to paint. The place that Peter and Betty provide is perfect for it! On one of the walks on the beach I had an encounter with turtle and dolphin! Its one of the most relaxing places we ever stayed in. The wifi is a bit slow at times, but for me personally it wasn’t an issue. I can truly recommend this place with all of my heart!

Relaxing Stay on Hooper’s Bay

We enjoyed our stay at Sandy Palms on Hooper’s Bay. Peter and Betty were always very kind and helpful, providing updates on COVID travel guidelines throughout our trip. They responded quickly to messages and questions. The studio apartment was as described and pictured; it’s an efficiency studio on the best beach in Exuma. It was the perfect home base for us as we like to explore, hike, swim, snorkel, kayak, and go boating while we are on island. It was so nice to start and finish each day by swimming with the turtles and relaxing by the calm waters on the beach. Peter provided a car rental for us during our stay and arranged our transportation to and from the airport which makes arrival and departing so much simpler. We typically made our own small breakfasts and snacks and ate lunch or dinner out. Our restaurant favorites: Santanna’s, Julian’s Jerk Shack, Blu, Rusty Anchor, Paul’s Fried Chicken (PFC), Mom’s Bakery, Chat n Chill, and Peace n Plenty. We (Betty & Peter) moved to Exuma in 1999 after 15 years of owning and operating a popular guest house in England. We then created the Award Winning 'Coral Gardens' B&B Guest House which has been VOTED #1 on EXUMA every year since 2009 by the worlds largest travelers site.
Realising that many guests like to have a choice of being DIRECTLY on the beach, we finally found the ideal and nearby location on the beautiful Hoopers Bay which we named 'SANDY PALMS' as the garden which surrounds the property is filled with palm trees. They created a number of self-catering Studio and Apartment accommodations ranging from a comfortable and economical Studio/Efficiency for a couple, also a larger 2 room apartment for a family or 4 people, and a huge 8 person apartment with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms for groups of families or friends. This allows them to match guests needs for the right sized and right priced accommodation and still offering peace and quiet as all the units have their own entrances in different parts of the building and separate patios and sundecks.
As we live nearby we arrange the short taxi ride from the airport, where you will be greeted by our dedicated taxi driver and then we will personally welcome you to 'Sandy Palms' and show you around and give you maps and other information.
Our desire is to help guests enjoy the holiday THEY want - whether it is simply a peaceful and relaxing time or activity filled. With a combined 40 years experience welcoming guests to Exuma we are able to make the best suggestions for making the most of a visit to the island

Hoopers Bay is the most convenient location to stay on in Exuma with easy access from the airport,& just a short distance from George Town as well as good local shops within an easy 5 minute walk.
Sandy Palms is set down its own long, tree lined driveway, and therefore away from the main road for peace and quiet whilst the beach is just a few steps through the coconut palms.
For guests who want to have a peaceful and relaxing visit but still be close enough shops, restaurants etc then Sandy Palms is the place to stay
