Overview

About the property

Condominium, 1 Bedroom, 1.0 Bathroom, (Sleeps 2)

Make yourself at home in this chic, true one-bedroom apartment conveniently located in Portland’s fashionable, central Pearl District.

From your Pearl on the Park, located on Park Ave between Everett and Flanders, take a 7-minute walk Downtown to the Cultural District and shopping at Jonathan Adler, Nordstrom, Macy's, and the famous Powell's Books; head up to 23rd Street on the Max (the streetcar is just a block and a half from the apartment) for some ace shopping and dining (don't miss the iconic Elephant's or relaxing Papa Haydn); or stay in the Pearl for amazing cuisine (try Andina, one of our favorite lunch and dinner spots), coffees, art galleries, boutiques, the wonderful Living Room movie theater, and much more.

Union Station is two blocks away. Willamette River is 8 blocks east. From your 4th floor perch (with balcony) at the center of the Pearl, you’ll be within walking distance to the best of outdoors Portland as well, including acres of parks and green space (there’s a 5-block park just across the street), innovative restaurants, the wonderful food carts, Farmers Market at PSU, cultural outings (stop in for a breather at the Japanese Gardens), outdoor adventures and—of course—more coffee shops than you could sample in six months.

Settle in and get comfortable. (But do be sure to contact us in advance for longer stays. Our reservation calendar fills quickly.)

COMFORTS GALORE

We provide a deep, custom leather sofa in the living room, with 44 roomy inches of snuggling space, and a plush 4-person dining area that lets you entertain guests long into the evening. Welcome nightfall beside the flicker of a unique fire feature, while urban lights glitter beyond a windowed door over the balcony.

And the bed. I believe that a good night’s sleep is essential to quality of life. That’s why the bed has a downy, king-sized cloud of a mattress wrapped in sumptuous 400-threadcount sheets and topped with a Restoration Hardware linen duvet and shams.

Watch TV from the bed, then cozy down for a great night's sleep. Wake rested and refreshed and ready to explore vibrant, quirky, wonderful Portland :)

A COOK’S KITCHEN

Of course, with the diverse selection of eateries just outside, you may never feel the need to cook. But if you do, this kitchen has you covered. It’s one of my favorite spots in the apartment, with its stainless steel appliances, glossy black granite countertops, and barstool seating so the chef can chat with guests while they cook.

The cupboards are packed with everything a cook needs, including Calphalon pots and pans. Even better: you’re within easy walking distance to World Foods, which is brimming with fresh, colorful produce and delicious, fresh meats, seafood and cheeses as well as mouth-watering freshly prepared foods from soups to salads. (There's a whole section at World Foods devoted to different chocolates .. definitely my kind of place.)

A BATHROOM YOU SEE IN THE DESIGNER MAGAZINES

The bathroom features black marble floors with in-floor heating, a stunning Restoration Hardware updated 18th-century French dresser vanity with Carrera marble top, soaker tub, and glass wall mirror with soft, beautiful lighting.

We even added a chandelier to glam the bathroom up a bit. I think it's fun to have a bit of luxury when you're away from home and since this is our home-away-from-home, I wanted it for myself as well as for guests.

LOVELY EXTRAS

A few other nice little extras our apartment offers to welcome you: Artwork and photography by local artists around the apartment showcase the thriving artist culture for which Portland is famous.

An in-unit Bosch washer and dryer make laundry a breeze.

While your clothes spin, watch Netflix on the new 42-inch Sony SmartTV in the living area.

And in the morning, nothing beats a fresh brew from the Chemex. We stock lots of great coffee for you to try. This is Portland, after all!

CONTACT ME TO BOOK Get in touch with me to reserve your dates at this chic apartment in the center of it all. Or send a message with your questions—I'm happy to help.

Welcome to Portland!

About Barbados Beach Vacation Rentals

I'm an American and Greg is Barbadian. We live on the beautiful island of Barbados in the Caribbean. Between us we've raised five wonderful children and we're in the stage of life now where we are able to balance satisfying work with enriching leisure.

We are in the US a great deal, as well as Canada and Europe. What can I say, we love to travel. Few places have gotten under our skin like Portland, Oregon, however, and we're delighted to have the opportunity to buy a pretty one-bedroom apartment as a vacation home there that we can rent out to other Portland-lovers.

Why Barbados Beach Vacation Rentals chose Pearl District

We've been visiting Portland for 12 years, have always loved the vibrancy of this sophisticated small city, and finally decided to buy a place. We knew we wanted a place where we could walk everywhere and that's why we bought in the Pearl District. When we don't want to walk, Portland's light rail is two blocks away.

What makes this condo unique

After viewing a number of properties on the market in Portland, Greg knew the moment we walked into the one that became ours that it was The One. I followed suit about five minutes later. We were attracted by the layout, which features high ceilings and a long curved wall that opens into a beautiful kitchen/dining/living area with French door to a patio overlooking city buildings.

We loved the southern exposure, the tons of storage it offered, the spacious bedroom which accommodated a king bed and large dresser, the open kitchen with new black granite counters, the laundry room with terrific Bosch appliances. We loved that we could make this place our own while also making it exquisitely comfy for visitors who also wanted a homey, decked-out apartment in Portland where you can walk absolutely anywhere you want to go: cinema, theater, restaurants galore, coffee shops, little nooks of shops as well as major department stores like Nordstrom and Restoration Hardware.

We decorated and put the apartment on the rental market in February 2014. We are excited to use the apartment ourselves and delighted to offer it to others who love Portland as much as we do.

Great Pearl location

  • 5 of 5

I am giving this condo a high rating because, as they say, in real estate, it’s all about location, location....well you know the drill. No car needed. Easy access to everything. However, there is the street car, bus, & light rail (Max) if you need that!

Regarding unit, very eclectic and comfy. She has everything in this place you could want. All appliances are upgraded. The bed is very nice. I slept great. However, if it is a view you are after, you won’t get that here. But , hey, can’t have everything. That was not important to me.

Since I was a 3 month renter, I wanted more than what a 1 month person would need. So, for me, it was a great second home. I would do it again. Thank you Jane

PS. Forgot to say that Jane was very quick to answer any of my emails to her!,

Excellent Location, Great Host!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Pearl in the Park for extended travel (2 months) for work. This rental was perfect for my needs. It's decorated very well, has nice finishes, clean, all of the necessities, and is in a GREAT location. For me, extended travel gets old in a hurry when staying in a hotel. I wanted a place that would feel like home, allowed me to walk to work, and also provided entertainment within walking distance. This rental did exactly that. There are many places nearby to eat, shop, listen to music, have a drink (I enjoyed River Pig) etc. Jane is a very accommodating host and was always available. The only downside during my stay was construction of the building next door. I'm an early riser, so it wasn't bothersome to me, but for someone that sleeps in it could have been a nuisance. They were nearing completion though, so it shouldn't be an issue much longer. I would recommend this property for an individual or couple traveling to Portland.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your stay in my Portland Pearl District apartment. I'm really glad you had a wonderful stay. I'm happy to say the hotel you mention is opening this month, hooray! We are excited about it (now that the construction is completed) because the shops and restaurants on the ground level add so much liveliness and fun to the Pearl District. Thank you for choosing my Pearl on the Park. Wishing you many happy travels, Jane Shattuck Owner

Launchpad for the Pearl

  • 5 of 5

This condo offered the quality and cleanliness to be a thoroughly relaxing homebase from which to explore Portland. The owner, Jane, was immediately and graciously responsive by email for any matters related to the condo. World Foods, on the next block, offers OG selections and a vast array of foods. Location is superb. The Pearl has a 98 walkability score and a terrific metro system...do check out the weekly / monthly ticket discounts. Construction of a hotel is underway, wrapping most of the city block. With windows closed, there is negligible noise and workers leave at 3:30. We found the building project to provide a fascinating window into complex engineering. It added to our experience. First Thursday Art night is a delight. We would definitely return and would recommend to friends.

Top of The Line

  • 5 of 5

We have used VRBO all over the world. This apartment has been the best that we have ever rented. There is only one other in Spain that was as well appointed as this perfect unit. The location was superb. Very convenient to restaurants, theaters, museums and plenty of shopping. All the furnishings are not typical of what is normally found in a rental. Very eclectic and stylish. The kitchen was equipped with everything that is needed to prepare a meal. There was also an espresso maker. The only other home that is better equipped than this one is our home. My wife is a professional chef and has every kitchen gadget that man has invented. The kitchen in this apartment came close to being at home.

Our host was accommodating with any question or request that we had. If we return to Portland again there is no other place that we would consider to rent. Our experience staying the month in this wonderful unit made our holiday very enjoyable.

Thank you Jane for sharing you wonderful apartment with us and providing Netflix. Regular TV gets boring.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your glowing review of my Pearl on the Park. It makes me very happy indeed to have contributed to your wonderful stay in Portland. In turn, you gave me a wonderful recommendation of Bellino's Restaurant near the apartment. My mind is stuck on "Italian" ever since you sang its praises. Next time I'm in Portland I'm there!! I wish you many happy travels and perhaps another visit to Portland some day. Thank you and happy travels, xJane

Excellent month in Portland

  • 5 of 5

What makes this property so special is the host who made my wife and I feel as comfortable as if we stocked the condo ourselves. She provided us with everything we needed and more. She is a very agreeable and hospitable person and made our vacation memorable. A nice touch was allowing us to use her Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts on her HDTV. The location was across from an attractive park. The park was home to lots of homeless people who were not aggressive but it saddened us to see them. It took more than a week for us to appreciate the attractiveness of the park after we saw that the local residents used the park to bring their children, play bocce and basketball and coexist with those less fortunate. The location was very convenient for walking within the Pearl district and downtown. Lots of good restaurants and bakeries nearby. We love jazz and a 1 minute walk from the condo was one of the best jazz venues in the world, Jimmy Maks. A nearby parking spot was provided at no cost which was very helpful. On a previous month in Portland we had no car most of the time and there were important areas we did not explore, particularly the hill trails in the northwest which we recommend for those who like to hike in beautiful, dramatic settings. We rented the condo from July 1 to 29, 2015.

Owner's Response: It was a true pleasure having you both in our Portland Pearl District apartment for your visit. I'm happy to hear you had a great time and were comfy in our place. I must get to Jimmy Maks! Thanks for letting me know about it as I like jazz as well and didn't realize it was so nearby. I wish you many happy travels and thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. Warmest regards, Jane Shattuck
