Comfortable, quaint, and cute are words often used to describe this tropical A-frame located on the Mississippi Sound. A wrap around deck shaded by palm trees leads down to the water and the 36' fishing pier. Fish or crab from the pier, or boardwalk, soak up rays on the deck, or watch the tug and barge traffic pass by on the Inter-Coastal Waterway. 10 minute walk to the beach. WiFi provided.

Queen bed in the downstairs master, 2 full beds in one bedroom and a daybed with a 'pop-up' trundle in the other upstairs bedroom sleep 8 people comfortably. Sofa sleeper in the living area.

Full bath downstairs across from the Master Bedroom with double vanity. Full size washer and dryer in the bathroom area.

The fully stocked kitchen is complete with everything you need to prepare a full course meal for your family and is open to the living area with views of the pier and Mississippi Sound. The breakfast bar will seat 2 or 3 and allow you to supervise the kitchen action. The Living and Dining area with 25' vaulted ceilings, has great water views, a flat screen TV with Dish Network service, comfortable leather furniture, and a tasteful Nautical Decor.

Head upstairs via a Heart Pine staircase with a brushed aluminum stair rail to 2 bedrooms and a full bath.

'Captains Quarters' was purchased as my primary residence in 2001 and was not rented out until recently. I settled on Dauphin Island because it is the most 'laid back', relaxing place I have ever found. The fishing is fantastic, the beaches are beautiful, and the Sunsets are phenomenal!

What makes this chalet unique

Sunsets, sunsets, sunsets!!! Fishing and crabbing off the 36' pier. Swimming or shelling a 10 minute walk on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Scooter or jet ski rentals minutes away. Bike trails, best birding in the Southeast, Audubon Park, historic Fort Gains, Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium. The best offshore Red Snapper and sports fishing in the Gulf and inshore speckled trout, white trout, flounder, crabbing and red fishing on the private pier. Mobile Bay Ferry available for day trips to Fort Morgan or Gulf Shores. The casinos of Biloxi are 1 hour away and New Orleans a short 2.5 hours away.

This was one of the most well-equipped and cutest vacation rentals I've ever rented! Awesome time!

We had a wonderful weekend of food, fishing, and fun! Everything you need for a home away from home was provided. The house was super clean and neat. The last lady who left a bad review is obviously crazy and just wanted a free handout because there was not a bug to be seen. I'm guessing they were from around here, anyway....

We caught tons of fish off the pier: speckled trout, white trout, Spanish mackerel, croaker, and (no lie) a 20+ lb black drum. We fed all of the croaker to Great Blue, the heron, of course.

We would gladly stay here again and are thinking about coming back this summer!

It is attractive, clean, comfortable, and conveniently located.

We stayed in this same house several years ago and were so pleased that we booked it again this year. It is attractively and tastefully decorated, clean, and comfortable. The WiFi had been disabled evidently by some power outages or storms, but the owner came the next morning and got it working again. The windows at the back look our over the bay and the boat dock is only a few feet away.

Wonderfully relaxing!!

We had a wonderful weekend. The house had just about everything we needed. Lots of space for sleeping and enjoying the beautiful weather. And it’s a very short walk to the beach. Make sure you grocery shop before getting there otherwise you need to shop at Greer’s about 20-25 minutes away. Overall we loved the quiet beauty this property provided. The only improvement needed...replace some boards on the pier. Lots of splinters. Or just wear shoes.

Very dissapointed, going to file a claim with my credit card issuer

The house seemed cozy at first, but later we realized there could be better options for the money.

The lighting fixture in the living room simply does not work: no excuses or explanations - you will see just a note that there will be no light.

The small bedroom on the second floor does not have central air conditioner vents but a window conditioner, although you won't use it at night because of horrible noise it produces. It's so noisy that you won't even hear constantly running water in the nearby bathroom toilet due to flash handle always sticks to open position until you fix it.

If you decide to turn the window AC off and let some sea breeze in through the open windows, you are at risk to become an easy prey for mosquitoes since no windows are equipped with mosquito nets. Mosquitoes are quite dangerous in this area and you may suffer severe allergic reactions if not infections from their bites and have to spend extra money for dermatologist visits as we did.

Hopefully, the giant cockroaches which infested the house are not that dangerous, and may even entertain the whole family if you catch half a dozen alive to set up cockroach racing.

The residency was advertised as "pet friendly", but as it turned out, not for all pets: we were told, that a small dog is okay, but in no way a small cat, even if you keep it in a cage inside the house all the time. Probably, if we had a small dog, their preferences would be diametrically opposed in order to get a reason to keep the deposit.

Another question is how did they know there was a pet in the house: were they spying on us with some kind of hidden cameras or the cleaning lady who arrived too early and with her impatience urged our departure, reported it?

As to the security deposit, I would advise the next brave renters to document and report all the existing damages at the start, or better, just stay away from this "charming house" unless you are a fan of cockroach racing.

Owner's Response: Ms Gofman, I realize you are upset about loosing a portion of your deposit for damages to the furniture.Had we been informed of the damage the resulting forfeiture might have been avoided. From Spring Break through October we turn Captain’s Quarters (CQ) every week, have about 4 hours to clean, make any repairs, or replacements and get ready for the next guest. In the nine years I have been renting CQ yours is the second deposit I have touched. CQ is a successful vacation rental, (58 Five Star Reviews), I don’t need your deposit. The portion I kept will not replace the two chairs that were broken. As for your cat.....There are NO Cameras any where on the property! After waiting an hour past the prescribed checkout time the cleaning crew watched you come out with your cat on a leash. Common Practice for guest staying anywhere is to obtain permission for any pet. There are heat and air ducts in all rooms at CQ. We added window units upstairs to help out in the heat of the Summer. We weren’t aware it was making abnormal noises and it will be addressed. The low wattage light in the ceiling fan is out of service but the Tiffany Lamps provide plenty of light. Mosquitoes... don’t have a lot of control over them but with the almost constant sea breezes they have never been a problem. Giant cockroaches infest the property.....Not Hardly! We spray routinely and aside from the occasional Palmetto Bug common on the Gulf Coast we have no issues. I am sincerely sorry that CQ didn’t meet your expectations.

Fort Gaines (Civil War Fort) on the East End holds tours daily and reenactments several times a year. Protected the entrance to Mobile Bay with sister Fort , Fort Morgan on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay.

Ferry ride to Fort Morgan , Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, or outlet shopping in Foley, AL.

1.5 hour ride to Casinos in Biloxi and 2.5 hours to New Orleans.
