About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

This quaint little bungalow is perfect for a get-away, family vacation, or retreat. Nestled in the town of Black Mountain, called the 'front porch of the Blue Ridge Mountains,' our Lake Tomahawk Bungalow allows you to experience the loveliness, peace and quiet of a small town.

Conveniently located near a treasure load of National Parks, attractions and majestic views including Mount Mitchell ,the highest elevation East of the Mississippi River. The Seven Sisters Mountains can be seen from our property in the backdrop of Lake Tomahawk.

The bungalow itself is located just one walking block from Lake Tomahawk which features a walking path encircling the lake where you can visit ducks and geese, enjoy the scenic views along the path or bring a blanket and a picnic and sit on the lawn for the Lake Tomahawk summer series Thursday night concerts.

If relaxation and rest is your objective, settle into our comfy deck chairs with a good book and a tall glass of ice tea or a cold drink and let the rest of your crew walk across the street and play tennis. You have a great view of the courts from the deck so you can relax and still monitor their play.

Downtown Black Mountain offers many quaint shops for purchasing clothing, kitchen nick-knacks, antiques, specialty items, children toys and more. There are many restaurants to choose from including wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta, the unique Blue Ridge Biscuit Company, Thai, sushi, authentic Mexican, German and several local delis, bakeries, ice cream, and a chocolate shop. The surrounding areas provide hiking, walking/running and mountain bike trails. Check out Montreat College's campus for varying degrees of easy to difficult climbs including the Lookout Trail which boasts a 360 degree view of the Swannanoa Valley.

The Lake Tomahawk Bungalow is located only 15 minutes from downtown Asheville where you will find all the amenities of a progressive big city including cinemas, several national and local breweries for touring and tasting, numerous music venues of all types,36 art museums, shopping, dining, and much more. Asheville is home of the Vanderbilt family's historic Biltmore House with thousands of acres of wooded and landscaped grounds, a winery and restaurants, stables where you can rent horses, as well as the tour of the home. You may also want to get a day-spa ticket to the historic Grove Park Inn and Country Club, where many celebrities and dignitaries have stayed when visiting.

In short, the Lake Tomahawk Cottage offers a great alternative to hotel rooms, with a full kitchen. The living room is furnished with comfortable leather chairs, a sofa and coffee table to relax and enjoy the high speed wireless spectrum internet and cable. The two bedrooms have queen sized beds. All linens and towels are provided as well as a hair dryer, iron, and ironing board.

It has been said that "Black Mountain is like the Town of Mayberry with hippies". (from the Andy Griffith show of the mid '60s)

Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

Great location and perfect for my grown daughter and me! Easy to reach Patty when we needed to ask a question, but the place had everything we needed. The kitchen is nice and big, there is a comfy couch, and nice bedrooms, too. Easy walk to the lake where a walking trail around it makes it easy to enjoy the mountains and get exercise. We definitely recommend this VRBO.

Cute, neat as a pin cottage convenient to Black Mountain and Asheville

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was very neat and clean. The perfect size for my Mother and I. Just down the hill from a lovely park with lake, ducks and a walking trail. It was very close to Black Mountain, a lovely little mountain town with great shops and restaurants, as well as being only 10-15 minutes to Asheville. The owner is next door. She greeted us, showed us the features of the cottage, gave us some restaurant recommendations, and let us know she was nearby if anything was amiss (nothing was). Otherwise we were left on our own. It was perfect. We did get to meet the owner’s very sweet Beagle, Rupert, when he was out for a walk. Very nice for me since I’m a dog lover and was missing my own, but there are no dogs loose in the area if that’s not your cup of tea. I highly recommend this place.

We arrived in a snowstorm and wound up with 12" of snow. Our hosts did everything go make us safe and happy, even including a little Christmas tree in the space. They also shoveled the snow off the stairs and driveway daily and applied salt to keep it clear. Everything was clean and comfortable. Great place!

Very nice experience

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts were very cordial, had initial concerns regarding their proximity to the house but they were very gracious and let us be, which we appreciated. The lake is nice, feeding the ducks and geese was fun. Black Mountain has a charm to it for us, lots of shopping and close to Asheville. The house was clean and had everything you needed, my wife is a little OCD and it met her standards. Would recommend to a friend.

Great location, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We chose this for its location - about a block from Lake Tomahawk - and enjoyed walks around the lake every day. It is also an easy walk to the stores in downtown Black Mountain. It is very comfortable inside and well equipped. We enjoyed our visit and would certainly stay again.
