About Susan Colwell

Well, here's a little about me. . . .I'm married to the best guy on the planet-Cerphe (pronounced Surf), we have a feline child-Poncey and I host a travel show on Eco Planet Radio called TravelGal. (Please check it out!) :-)

Recently, two very dear friends of mine and I fell in love with an enchanting row house in Baltimore's Little Italy. I daydreamed about it, walked around the neighborhood and discovered wonderful Italian restaurants, an amazing bakery, the cutest wine bar ever, the waterfront promenade and on and on! Each time I turned a corner there was more. Then!!!! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better--I discovered a Starbucks, Whole Foods, movie theater and incredible shopping along the Inner Harbor only two blocks away!

So my dear friends and I bought that cutie-pie house and turned it into an elegant corporate and family retreat /super-cool pied a terre.

Susan Colwell purchased this house in 2014

Why Susan Colwell chose Baltimore

This is such a WONDERFUL area of Baltimore. It's like stepping back in time. The neighborhood is charming, safe and lovely— chock full of wonderful Italian restaurants, even a cozy little wine bar and popular bakery. There are tons of festivals and events in this neighborhood and in the summer time, they even play an outdoor movie (Friday nights) and all the neighbors bring their lawn chairs. It's just magical.

What makes this house unique

The property was built in 1850 and is so charming and cozy with it's exposed brick and good energy that it makes you want to burrow in, read a book or watch movies and unwind. But with all the shopping, dining and the Inner Harbor only steps away, the city draws you out. I also paid close attention to the comfort of the beds and house amenities like coffee, tea, sugar, hand soap, etc. All the little extras that make a home away from home feel functional and homey. I hope you enjoy what we've done!

Great location and clean!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home, nicely appointed, and helpful owner/property manager. The heat was broken and with just one call, the owner or property manager had an expert there to fix it and had space heaters delivered in case we needed them. This home is clean and comfortable. It is well-appointed with comfortable beds, and a welcoming feel. AMAZING amenities! Kitchen stocked with Keurig and k-cups, sugar and creamers, large set of dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, etc. This host thought of everything--even supplied shampoo, conditioner, soap, and laundry detergent! We spent 3 days walking everywhere (sometimes we used Uber). Very convenient with several great restaurants in the immediate area. Thoroughly enjoyed this charming house and would recommend highly!

Fantastic place to stay with small children

  • 5 of 5

We had a great visit. The lay out of the house worked great for small children. The location is great to as the sidewalks are wide and there is a park around the corner.

Perfect for Baltimore wedding party!

  • 5 of 5

Our 5-day stay in this property was perfect for our son's New Year's Eve Baltimore wedding! "Little Italy charmer" is aptly named - it is charming, and well-located almost within Little Italy. The charm is inside and out, from the green door to the well-appointed clean-lined interior, the upstairs balcony overlooking Little Italy (photo op!), and the back deck.

As parents of the groom, we needed a place for our family to stay close to Inner Harbor hotels, for groomsmen to get ready in our place, and for extended family to come and "hang out." This place exceeded our expectations. First, it is spacious. We had comfortable lounging and TV football-viewing for eight on the double-L-shaped couches with pull-out ottoman/bed. The dining table sat 10, with extra chairs to pull up. Bedrooms and bathrooms are also spacious for this type property. The code-access door worked well for coming and going as needed without dealing with keys. Every kitchen convenience was there, all bathrooms were well supplied, plus plenty of closet space for our wedding attire and winter coats. The beds are comfy and, aside from a little street noise & light (to be expected), our stay was quiet and we slept well. The place was spotlessly clean, and Marcia was available by text if we had questions.

Whatever we needed was within blocks: Whole Foods, CVS, Starbucks, well-stocked liquor store, restaurants, snacks, shopping and services. A little further walk either direction are major attractions including the Aquarium, harbor, Fells Point bars & restaurants - all charming and walkable. And by walkable I mean flat and safe enough for many over-50 guests to enjoy and access, including some with disabilities. Just use the crosswalks and abide by signals, as there is fast-moving traffic. Places we enjoyed included The Boathouse (about a 15 minute walk), Bond Street Social, Abby Burger in Fell's Point and Insomnia Cookies. We had a large family dinner at Gia's Ristorante directly across the street, on short notice, at the property owner's recommendation. Great decision! Gia and her mother Giavanna welcomed us like family and served heaps of delicious, reasonably priced Italian food.

One note: although we had no problem - and Uber is readily available - parking your car can be tricky. Also, a full-length mirror would be nice. All in all, outstanding!

Great property - Great location

  • 5 of 5

The Little Italy Charmer was a perfect fit for our family of 6 adults and 2 small children. There was plenty of living space as well as very comfortable sleeping space for all of us (everyone got a real bed). The property was clean and had everything that we needed to make our Christmas stay enjoyable. The location is fantastic, near the Inner Harbor, aquarium, Port Discovery children's museum, restaurants, and shopping. The owners/managers - Susan and Marcia were very responsive to our every request and got back to us promptly whenever we had a question. We would definitely rent the property again if we are in Baltimore for an event.
