The Quarters is superbly appointed cottage accommodation on Te Au, the coastal extensive sheep and beef farm of June and Malcolm Rough at Mahia, Hawkes Bay. Its elevated site gives magnificent views of the Mahia Peninsula and the coastline up towards Gisborne.
The kitchen is fully equipped, though delicious homemade meals are available. Fresh baked bread awaits you with complimentary fresh cooked crayfish in the fridge when possible.
The living areas are extremely comfortable with large glass doors opening to the decks with panoramic views.
On the farm, activities include scenic walks laid out up the coast and to the river. The walks are for all ranges of fitness, with a full river walk of a 10 km return. The river is noted for its fly fishing and great swimming holes. The railway viaduct out there is the southern hemispheres single largest concrete pour, and is quite a sight. Farm tours are available upon request.
A guided evening trip to the glow worm trail in one of the bush reserves is highly recommended. There are 2 QE2 bush reserves on the farm. Guests are invited to put their names to young Pohutukawa trees planted along the farm track.
The extensive and safe Mahanga beach is adjacent and there is access below The Quarters to the coast where one may fish, dive, and jump off the ledges. Seals live here in winter.

Stunning views, relaxing stay in remote location.
Stunning, remote tranquil location. A combination of farm stay and beach batch, this provides solitude but also plenty of authentically kiwi activities. Accomodation was clean, quality bed linen and full cooking facilities. Wonderful stay!
We had a fantastic stay at The Quarters. Very cosy and warm. Great location and amazing views!
