Michael is a Financial Advisor and Sheila is a Critical Care Nurse. We live in the Seacoast of New Hampshire. We first discovered the area after a weekend trip to Bar Harbor. We loved Bar Harbor and Acadia but also wanted a quieter area to relax and enjoy so we looked a little further north and found the quaint village of Steuben and our Pyne Cove piece of land. We built our dream cottage in 2011 and included all the features and amenities for a comfortable stay any time of year! It was a wonderful project that we put many personal touches in that we hope you will also enjoy! Details include rock knobs on our cabinets that we made from stones collected at the beach down the road. The view of Pyne Cove and the surrounding woodlands from every window lets you know that you are Downeast!
Michael & Sheila purchased this cottage in 2011
The Cottage is located just down the road from Pigeon Hill that offers panoramic views after a 15 minute easy hike to the top. Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is also just down the road and has several hiking paths to some of the most beautiful scenery on the Maine coast. Only 45 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, the location is ideal for day trips. Campobello Island, President Roosevelt's summer refuge, is a short day trip away to New Brunswick, Canada. This is an ideal setting for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers! But you can also just relax and enjoy the natural beauty all around.
We searched several pieces of property before we decided to purchase this 3 acre piece of land on a pristine cove and then build our dream cottage. The long view down the cove, beautiful woodlands, and brook that runs into the cove captured what we were looking for in a vacation home. We custom built the cottage to be comfortable and easy to maintain. The cottage is also located only 5 miles from the town of Milbridge that offers a great restaurant, grocery store, banking and several other services.
The property is beautiful and serene. Close to the town of Milbridge but far enough to be away from it all. The house has all the comforts of home. We enjoyed hiking up Pigeon Hill. Even our 2 year old grandson hiked. We had a great time at the wedding on Pond Island.
Like Henry David Thoreau’s Sentiments at Walden Woods, we too felt, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads," at Pyne Cove Cottage. The natural environment of this perfect cottage countryside, allowed us to get back to ourselves and really rest, relax and restore through nature and the beauty of this cabin.
Away for the crowds of Bar Harbor, Pyne Cove is in a very quiet, rural part of Maine. The cottage is like new, immaculately clean and stocked with everything needed for a wonderful relaxing stay (beautiful dishes, pots, pans, knives, glasses, sheets & towels, washer & dryer). The bed was very comfortable and the furniture was new and clean and fresh. This is very important to me- there is nothing worse when getting into a cabin and feeling like things are moldy or old or dirty- to the contrary- Pyne Cove was fresh, spotless, open, bright, airy and spacious!
The screened in porch was my favorite spot- I sat in the back corner each morning with a cup of tea, my book and a journal- listening to the birds sing their morning symphony and the bold tones of the wind chime bells hanging right outside. The fire pit and the access to the cove right at the cottage was great- we had our kayaks and spent much time just going from the peaceful Adirondacks chairs to the cove to kayak and back to the cabin again- most days we felt no need to leave the cottage.
When we did leave the cottage, the scenic byways of the Down East region- filled with quaint towns, scenic harbors, delectable lobster shacks and beautiful ocean to mountain views; only made the drive to Acadia National Park another lovely activity. Some sections of Acadia were only 20 minutes away (the beautiful and quiet Schoodic Peninsula) and the hiking Mike talks about right by the cabin is also very worth doing!
Our experience with the owners- Mike and his wife, and their lovely Pyne Cove Cottage, was phenomenal from the very beginning to the very end. He took extra time to return several of my emails (I had filled with extensive questions)- that I later found most of the answers to on the web site and he still took the time to respond to me personally!
I did joke with Mike that I did not want to write this review. The reason being purely selfish of course-- my husband and I want to keep it all to ourselves- LOL. So, unless we decide to buy the property next door- we will be making Pyne Cove a very regular restorative getaway!

We enjoy the Pigeon Hill area near Petit Manan wildlife refuge for its near pristine natural beauty. This isn't an area marked by throngs of tourists. Rather, it exhibits the beauty of Maine relatively untouched by the human hand. The Pyne Cove Cottage is a great place to stay in this area. It is located a good distance from the road. It is nestled in pine trees. You can see Pyne Cove clearly through the trees. It is a nice combination of the Maine woods and the Maine coastline. The cottage was built with care. It is very clean and relatively new. The owners thought carefully about how the cottage would be used and factored this careful thinking into its design. The cottage has a nicely organized kitchen with many of the tools and gadgets a good cook might want. It has a gas range. The living space is very nice and comfortable. The screen porch is a lovely amenity. Kudos to the owners for their design and thoughtfulness. We'd highly recommend the Pyne Cove Cottage for a stay in the Pigeon Hill area.
A beautiful well-appointed cabin in a pristine setting. The cabin is spacious, comfortable and well stocked. The interior is lovely ; the pictures do not do it justice. I loved the area-- close enough to acadia but far from the crowds. We especially enjoyed exploring the small coastal towns.
My wife and I spent a great five nights at the cottage, which is even more lovely than the pictures show. The kitchen was well-stocked for cooking, and the loft was perfect for evening movie watching -- They have a great collection of DVDs, btw! We also really enjoyed the using the fire pit. The nearby nature reserve is perfect for hikes -- Both the 1.5- and 4-mile trails were beautiful. And the redemption center down the road definitely has the best local raw seafood, so there's no need to travel further away if you don't want to. You should keep in mind that the location is pretty secluded (which is what we wanted). Also, there is JUST enough cell service for a phone call, so don't count on your smartphone for entertainment! Finally, the owners allow the lot to stay pretty wild, so definitely bring bug spray and, if you bring your dogs like we did, be sure that they are up-to-date on their tick treatments.
This cottage was perfect for our group of two couples. It was clean, had a well stocked kitchen, and really felt like home away from home. The location was great: secluded, yet close to Acadia and other nearby attractions. The property owner was very helpful and provided a perfect list of things to do and see. (Two of our favorite places to eat were the Pickled Wrinkle for supper and Chester's for breakfast.) We would definitely stay here again and recommend it for anyone!
The cottage is located on the same peninsula as the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge.
