Our lovely house is built in 1898 and plays and important part of this beautiful town's history. It was fully renovated in 2006 and carefully kept in it´s orginal look. At one time 4 families lived in the house accommdating 19 people.
Today there are 3 bedrooms, one has a king size (180 x 200 cm) bed and large closets. The second has a queen size bed 160x200cm) and a chest of drawers and the third has a single bed (100x200 cm) and a chest of drawers. All the bedrooms are on the third floor where there also is a full bathroom with a shower. There is unlimited hot water for long showers.
On the main floor we have a fully equipped kitchen with a dish washer, gas stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker, mixer/blender, and with an open dining area that seats 6. The living room has a leather sofa, 2 chairs and a cabinet. Next to the main entrance there is a guest bathroom. From the dining area you can exit to the back yard.
In the basement there is a second entrance, a tv area with a 42' flat screen, dvd player, Apple TV and with a sleeping bed that sleeps 2 (120x200 cm). For those who like to enjoy a nice glass of wine there is a little wine cellar. In the basement there is a laundry room with a washing machine and a storage/drying room.
In the back yard there is a nice area with garden furniture and a bbq. There is plenty of parking right out side the house but you really don´t need a car since everything is within walking distance. The harbor is 2 min walk, the cultural building HOF is right next door and our friendly neigbour Gunnar adds to the local experience. The area is full of restaurants, bars and art galleries. The local swimming pool is not to be missed and is just 5 min walk from Lundargata. The botanic garden is in the area as well as golfing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding etc. You really will have plenty to do.
We are a couple with 2 teenage boys who love to enjoy live. We golf a lot, fly fish, hike and loooove to cook gourmet food.
This house is a special place for us and we have really put our hearts and souls into making it comfortable for our guest. We love to stay there ourselves and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
Sigurdur Bjarkason purchased this house in 2012
This is a very special house that is full of soul. It is perfectly situated in the heart of the city. The neighborhood is friendly and you will feel like a local. Our guests tell us they don´t want to leave.
The location is extremely convenient. You can walk anywhere but still you are not in the noise in the center. Also the neighborhood is very local and friendly.
In the basement is a hidden secret, a small wine cellar that our guests like alot.
We went for a long weekend to Akureyri and were lucky enough to find this house. It is perfectly located in the heart of Akurery, a short walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars and shops. We went skiing and the house has a great basement where you can dry your skiing clothes during the night. The house itself is really beautiful, has obviously been renovated a lot recently. It has a cozy atmosphere, so it's really nice to stay in as well and enjoy a glass of wine aprés-ski.
If I ever go to Akureyri again, I would definetely rent this house. I think it would also be wonderful during the summer, there is a nice outside area as well that we didn't use at this time of year.
All in all - we LOVED this beautiful house!
