'In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree.....' Samuel Coleridge 1797

The unique design of this magnificent villa was inspired by the famous domed City of pleasure called Xanadu created by the Mongol ruler Kubla Khan in China during the 12th century. Standing proudly on a sea facing hillside for many years it is still as fresh and interesting today and has recently undergone an extensive renovation whilst preserving the character of this tasteful and fascinating study in concrete and stonework engineering. The domes of the villa dominate the hillside on St Lucia's northern tip in the exclusive residential area of the old sugar plantation of Cap Estate.

In good visibility the nearby larger Island of Martinique is clearly seen to the north and this makes an impressive backdrop to the Caribbean sea view both during the day and at night.

The high south west facing terraces of Xanadu provide beautiful views of nearby Pigeon Island and St Lucia's Caribbean coastline and and is the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner while watching the setting sun. These Caribbean sunsets are famous for their beauty and you may even witness the elusive green flash when the sky is clear. The Villa is surrounded by nearly two acres of gardens that slope gently away from the house and are home to coconut palms and tropical plants.

Nearby is St Lucia's Golf Resort and Country Club. This is a challenging and enjoyable 18 hole par 71 golf course.

There are nearby beautiful white sand beaches catering for all manner of water sports including safe swimming and snorkeling, scuba diving, hobby cat sailing, water skiing, para gliding and wind surfing.

Sports fishing and deep sea fishing enthusiasts will soon find what they want.

When the present owners bought the Villa for them it was love at first sight. They were captivated by the elevated position and the 270 degree views of the ocean and coastline. The gentle sea breezes temper the tropical heat and make relaxing by the poolside a real pleasure. The pool extends into the domed living area and has its own bar stools in the water to enjoy that rum punch or local fruit juice.

The villa has three spacious bedroom suites arranged round the pool terrace, all with modern bathrooms and wonderful uncluttered views of the ocean and gardens. They have nautically themed names. They all have their own private separate access direct from the terrace. There is a separate maid's room below the house.

'Captain's Quarters'--- Master bedroom

This air conditioned bedroom suite is elevated with a large rain forest shower room below and has a separate balcony overlooking the pool terrace and ocean views to Martinique. An impressive four poster king size bed adds to the wow factor of this domed ceiling circular bedroom. It has a shaving point in the bathroom and hair dryer is provided.

'Ocean'—Queen bedroom

Step out of this lovely bedroom and the swimming pool is 3 strides away. Large windows face the ocean and the Island of Martinique and the gardens. It has a four poster queen size bed and air conditioning and large ceiling fan. There is a small safe and hair dryer. In the bathroom there is a shaving point.

'Bosuns' ---- King bedroom

This the largest bedroom suite with an enormous double bed and an additional separate single bed. It is air conditioned and also has a large ceiling fan and opens on to the pool terrace. It has a small safe, shaver point in the bathroom and hairdryer.

'The Dome'

This huge circular domed living area is the center piece of the Villa and its five large bi-fold doors open to a circular terrace giving the option of the outdoor living that is the essence of life in St Lucia and the Caribbean. The completely circular area with it's compass rose floor has a unique atmosphere and gives access to the swimming pool bar which is partly inside the dome. Large plants shrive in this sheltered room and give a truly botanical feel. There is a dedicated television area.

The Dome leads to the curved kitchen area with completely modern equipment and corian work surfaces and double sink. It is claimed that no where in the Caribbean is the view from the kitchen sink so spectacular. The historical Pigeon Island lies below and the beautiful coastline of the west of the Island stretch away and at night the lights of the town of the town of Gros Islet and marina village at Rodney Bay add to the magical view. The kitchen has a powerful four burner Italian cooker with large oven and grill and a huge double fridge freezer and ice maker. Other equipment include a microwave oven, dishwasher, toaster and kettle. The kitchen doors lead on to the barbecue terrace and sheltered outside dining area.

A daily maids service is provided if required and security services ensure your stay is safe and enjoyable.

Regretfully the villa is not considered small children friendly (under the age of 10 years) and no pets are permitted. Smoking anywhere inside the villa is not permitted.

Stunning property for the perfect family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Xanadu is spectacular! The villa layout is both unique and highly functional. There are breathtaking views from every window and with each step surrounding the property. Each of the guest suites were thoughtful from comfortable bedding and décor to private access which made for easy escapes to reading, naps or bed time (fantastic air conditioning and private bathrooms in each bedroom). The photographs of the property are very accurate. This is a very special place that invites relaxation. Viola, the villa's housekeeper, was delightful. She was on site for the week days of our stay making us comfortable and keeping things tidy for a set number of hours each day. The property manager, Kris, provided excellent customer service leading up to our arrival and certainly upon greeting us at Xanadu. Kris was available to answer questions and assist with any request during the entire stay. We found the locals in St. Lucia to be beautiful, kind people. A car rental was helpful during our stay for daily runs to the grocery store (ice, fresh foods for the grill) and simple outings to local beaches, parks, restaurants. There are plenty of places to dine, shop, walk, and enjoy the island life within close proximity of the villa. The roads in St. Lucia take some navigating and a lot of time as traffic is heavy thus we did not venture terribly far from the villa though we could have -- mainly we did not want to spend much time away from the beauty and relaxation offered at Xanadu! Lunches at the Naked Fisherman and Jambe de Bois were two of our favorites that are very near the villa (easy drive to each). We enjoyed a special dinner at The Cliff (at Cap Maison resort) - excellent service and delicious food! The Coal Pot in Castries made for a very nice lunch during our one outing to the capital. Good food and really great service was never hard to find on the island. Pigeon Island/Fort Rodney is a must-do outing for any visitor. The beaches and views from ground-level are stunning but the hike to Fort Rodney (and then up to Signal Peak) is spectacular and offers amazing views and great photo opportunities. Jambe de Bois (restaurant) is in the park and as mentioned offers a great lunch and dinner. I highly recommend Xanadu and the "north end" of St. Lucia to any traveler!

What a great house with great views

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week at Villa Xanadu and loved it. The domed living area makes the house. On clear days you can see Martinique in the distance and at night you see the lights. The pool when lit up at night is very pretty. You can really have fun with the acoustics of the dome. To illustrate how great the villa was, my wife never turned on the TV, and she loves TV. We went to the grocery store in Rodney Bay and cooked most breakfasts and a couple of dinners. We also ate at The Naked Fisherman, Tapas Bar, Spinnakers, Flavours of the Grill, andKey Largo pizza (takeout to eat at villa). The villa is just a short hop away from Rodney Bay and Gros Islet. Thanks to Diane, Kris, and especially Viola for making our stay so great.

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

When we booked our stay at Xanadu, there were no reviews to guide us. We were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful and a camera couldn't possibly capture the actual beauty of the view.

Three couples stayed for a week and there was plenty of room for everyone. The quality of the furnishings was excellent. Very comfortable beds. Viola , the housekeeper, was very nice and helpful. Kris, the property manager, was extremely professional and knowledgeable about the area.

My best advice for someone wanting to book a stay at Xanadu, follow Kris' directions from the airport and DO NOT make the mistake of taking the scenic route up the other side of the island. It took twice as long and they are the scariest roads I have ever been on.

A stay at Xanadu is paradise. I highly recommend it. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us.

Family Vacation over the Christmas Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in St. Lucia on December 20th - which would make us the 2nd visitors to Xanadu :) Our drive from Vieux Fort Airport was closer to 2 hours, due to traffic. Another option would have been to take a jumper flight from Vieux Fort to the George Charles Aiport located just north of Castries, however we were happy to get to the know island roads right off the bat as you do drive from the southern tip of the island all the way to Northern tip.

Once we arrived at Xanadu, we were exhausted so hearing all the security measures they have in place was a little unnerving, but after a good night sleep we got the hang of the security system and measures and also very much enjoyed our evening security guard named Skeet (7pm to 7am every night). Viola, the housekeeper is charming. She was never at the house overnight while we were there, but she was around a few of the days from 9am to 3pm (She does not work Sundays, and because of the Christmas holiday she had Thursday and Friday off as well).

The house is absolutely gorgeous architecturally and decoratively, including stunning 180 degree views.

We chartered a motor boat out of Rodney Bay for the day early on in our stay. The boat was called Exodus and was large, new looking and awesome. We motored from Rodney Bay to Anse Chastanet so we could drop a couple of our boys for a morning of scuba diving while the rest of us visited Soufriere and snorkeled near the Pitons. We saw hundreds of dolphins which was a lot of fun as well. The snorkeling was o.k. at best, which was surprising to me as I had been in the area 30 years earlier and had vivid memories of the marine life and coral.

We also drove to Dennery later in the week for a fabulous day of zip lining, hiking and biking the rainforest. Even the ride there was beautiful through banana plantations, various villages and the rainforest. We then capped that visit by stopping at Marigot Bay on our return for a mid day meal at the marina.

The locals on the island are as nice as can be. The grocery stores in Rodney Bay are just like those at home - which came as a pleasant surprise - especially at the Deli and when picking out wines.

All in all we had a fantastic time and only wish we had stayed a few days longer.

Uniquely beautfiul villa, with great views

  • 5 of 5

When we booked Xanadu it had yet to receive any reviews (we were hoping to be the first), so we were curious why that was. When we arrived to an empty guest book we knew it was new the market and felt lucky to be one its first guests!

Everything from the booking on was extremely easy. Kris, the property manager, is professional, responsive and on top of the minor of the very minor items that came up during our stay (internet and water pump issues). She recommended a taxi, that she arranged, from the airport as we would be arriving just after dusk and it was our first time on the island. We are glad she did! Coming from Canada driving unfamiliar roads for the 90 minute drive, on the opposite side of the road than we are used to, would not have been a relaxing experience.

Kris greeted us, gave us all of the pertinent info on the villa - alarm system, locks, lights etc and then she was off. It was the right level of detail for weary travelers. We had chosen to have the villa pre-stocked with some groceries, so we could relax the first day. That allowed us to pour a glass of wine and open a Piton, while we got ourselves acquainted with the house.

We booked the house the it's unique architecture and beautiful views of Pigeon Island - we weren't disappointed! How many houses allow you to swim into the living room, where you can enjoy almost 360 degree views? Everything about the house was exactly as pictured on the website.

With it being a new rental, we appreciated that all of the soft furnishings (chair cushions, pillows, towels and linens) were all new and not seeing the wear you typically experience in rental villas that have been on the market longer. The house is also equipped with every convenience and the kitchen equipped with all that you could need.

Our housekeeper Viola was a lovely woman, who because she lives quite far away, stayed for most of the week in a separate room at the front of the house. She would typically come in around 8am and retire for 3pm. It was enjoyable talking to her over my morning coffee. We didn't realize that there would be someone onsite for the week when we booked, and we had no issues, but were expecting more privacy during the day.

We rented a car for our stay and my husband got to scratch something off his bucket list - driving on the 'wrong side of the road'. There are a number of great restaurants in Rodney Bay that we enjoyed.

Overall, we had a wonderful week and highly recommend Villa Xanadu!
