Pure, simple joy by the lake

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented William's house for an early fall weekend getaway. The house was perfect and its location on the lake can't be beat. We took the kayaks out for a gorgeous ride and admired the beauty of the leaves just beginning to turn create their fall splendor.

William was available immediately when we couldn't figure out how to turn the heat on and walked us through how to get the furnace going.

We hope to go back to this home again and bring our two girls.

As others have mentioned, cell service is spotty and there's no WiFi at the house, so if you are a true internet junky, you may have an issue here.

Very nice Lake House

  • 5 of 5

The Egremont lake house was a very nice place. It provided our family with a restful fun vacation. It is very close to Great Barrington MA while still being in a quiet setting. Offering the younger adults enough night life to interest them. Some off the adults were out exploring the Birkshires daily and others stayed put fishing, swimming, and kayaking without leaving; of course everyone enjoyed the lake. Owner was very quick to respond to the few questions we had.

Great property for a quiet vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I took a week's vacation here. It was a very convenient location for cultural activities, hiking, restaurants, and seeing our friends from the Albany area. The location, right on a quiet and pretty lake, was wonderful. The landlord was very responsive and helpful and the house, while a bit worn in places (holes in the screen door, shaky tap on the kitchen sink), was comfortable, functional, and well-designed for lake views.

Well equiped spacious Family Lake Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the lake house! The balcony is great for eating and lounging with a wonderful view of the lake. The living room is really spacious and comfortable! The boats and other summer items available added to our enjoyment. The neighborhood park and local shopping helped make the location a great find.

Great place for the family

  • 4 of 5

for the price, it is GREAT -- a lovely outpost for family adventures, right on a beautiful little lake. The host was accommodating and responsive. We used the boats, we used the grill, we explored Great Barrington and the surrounding area on a beautiful Memorial day weekend.

The house and furnishings are in need of some updating, e.g. old beds and bedding, loose kitchen sink.

Overall though, good experience!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review, I will definitely bring new linens next time up. The beds are expensive and very comfy though, no? :) Also, the kitchen and baths were remodeled a few years ago (that new faucet needs help, and i will help it! thankyou IKEA though, couldnt have done it without you). The house also has a state of the art water purification system. Hague Water Systems in Hyde Park, Ny installed it. Mike has done my other house too, and the water is exceptional. Cheers! Bill

Very relaxing vacation

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our vacation at the house. We had 3-4 adults and seven kids (ranging in age from 1.5-13 years) staying the property. The house is somewhat rustic but comfy. Bedrooms are very small, but the living area was more than adequate for our group. Kitchen has everything you would need to cook (except for microwave). There is a tv in the living room and another in one of the bedrooms. No TV reception as far as I know, but they had a large collection of tapes and dvds, so everyone could find something. We also uitilized the local library at great barrington to take out some more books and dvds. There is a nice collection of sports equipment in the basement, as well as some kids toys, a bunch of books from baby to adult, fishing poles, some bikes, and of course the boats (with a decent supply of life jackets). The grills are charcoal, so buy some if you want to use them. The fire pit is a nice touch if you like making fires. The lake is better for boating than for swimming. There is small clear area near the shore, but it has a lot of plant matter closer to the shore. If you're a good swimmer, further away from the shore is better, but for little kids it was somewhat of a problem. There are also beavers in the water, but those seem to show up only closer to sunset. Not too many bugs based on the location, but we did get some bites, so bring some bug spray. Shopping is close by (10-15 minutes) in great barrington. There is a also a great plaground, tennis and basketball courts (equipment available at the house) five minute drive away at French park. Overall, everyone really enjoyed our stay. I took a star off because one of the bathrooms had issues with water in the bathtub (cold water didn't work-the owner said he'll look into it) and because we ran into a problem with garbage pick-up. Also, verizon and at&t had reception, but t-mobil would not start working until great barrington (I could get roaming in French Park, but very poor reception). No wi-fi available. Overall, everyone really enjoyed our stay and I would recommend it to our friends.
