Photos and Description of this Gooding holiday castle

West Wing 14 Bedrooms 9 Bath, add East Wing ($250) for 23 bedroom 14 bath total

The old Gooding College building is full of history and makes an excellent getaway for 1 person to large reunions. This is not a "cookie cutter" stay, the facility is unique and is full of charm. It was abandoned and neglected for many years and is now being remodeled and updated. There is a lot of work done, but it is "a work in progress", if you are looking for a Marriott like facility this is not it. The environment is much more open and rustic, with large hallways and rooms and some parts of the building needing finishing touches. We know you will enjoy making treasured memories with us.

This beautiful historic building was the Gooding College, built in 1920. It has been restored/modernized and makes a wonderful getaway for family get-togethers and other events.

West Wing:

The west has 14 bedrooms (each sleeps 2-4 people), 9 bathrooms, and a fully remodeled/modernized kitchen, dining room, game room and more . Currently we have beds for over 60 people, plus cribs and portable playpens, a second kitchen will be included soon. Also the Theater Room with High Definition Surround Sound and 3D movies, and a large play/gathering room (22'x75’) is included. Please take a look at the photos to see how beautiful this building is.

East Wing:

Starting in the summer 2016 the east wing will be available for an additional fee. The east wing will add 9 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms to your space. If you need the extra space the east wing sleep 36 additional people in comfort. The additional cost to add the east wing to your rental is only $350/night.

Gooding is a quiet small town but there's lots to do:

Gooding City of Rocks

Gooding City of Rocks is an area of unusual and highly scenic rock formations. Erosion has carved fascinating spires and hoodoos from the underlying deposits of solidified volcanic ash. Excellent hiking, sightseeing and solitude. About 15 miles north of Gooding on Highway 46, turn west at the BLM sign for Little City of Rocks. Follow the signs and travel about 7.5 miles on a generally well-maintained dirt road, which is suitable for passenger vehicles if conditions are dry. For more about the geology of Gooding City of the Rocks

Malad Gorge

The Malad River Canyon is 250 feet deep and 2.5 miles long. At Malad Gorge State Park, located right off Interstate 84, you can view the canyon and walk along the rim. The highway crosses over Malad Gorge, but the angle of view hides the deep gorge where the river cascades into Devil's Washbowl. Views of the gorge are best from the slender-but sturdy-bridge that arcs across the canyon.

Niagra Springs & Thousand Springs State Park

The churning, icy blue glacial water is a National Natural Landmark and part of the world-famous Thousand Springs complex along the Snake River. The park provides a great opportunity to drive into the 350-foot-deep Snake River Canyon. Once inside the canyon, you'll find year-round fishing in Crystal Springs Lake, including a handicap accessible site. Waterfowl and other wildlife are abundant.

Mountains to the north of town, just a 35 mile drive, offer to local folk or to those traveling through a place to enjoy the beauty of nature as it has been created. Fresh clean mountain air enhances the lives of those who enjoy the excellent camping areas available in the mountains outside of Gooding.

Just miles away are some of the world's most famous winter ski resorts - Sun Valley, and also not far from there is Soldier Mountain. Also enjoy cross country skiing.

Flat lands around the valley add make great snowmobiling. Also, the Gooding County Snow Park at the Gooding-Camas County line, includes 150 square miles of BLM and private land for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and sledding.

Gooding Public Pool

Enjoy going for a dip at the well maintained and convenient public pool. Cost is $3/person, three and under is free. Hours 1pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm The pool accompanies a park with playground equipment and space to run around. just 5 minutes away.

Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake

Cliff jumping/Swimming/Large playing fields/Sightseeing. Open all year, hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cost is $3 per vehicle The swimming area has a beach blocked off perfect for younger children and for playing in the sand, lifeguards, kayak and paddle board rentals, picnic areas with shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, swings and fishing available. In addition you can purchase refreshments. There are trails to walk too. The lake is surrounded by reeds and rocky cliffs. Beautiful setting. The amazing Shoshone Falls in also included is the price. Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake are a must do for any group.

Balance of Nice Rooms and Historic Building

  • 4 of 5

Dan & Lana were great to work with and very responsive to every inquiry in a very timely manner. They let us come tour the property before reserving to make sure it would meet our needs. It is a labor of love for them as they transform this old historic building into a modern place to gather and stay while preserving the historic and somewhat quirky nature of the building.

Rooms are nice and furniture and bedding are all new. Towels were provided and high quality like any nice hotel. Bathrooms were acceptable, but given the age of the building and the rural setting we had a few bugs, but not terrible. A/C units are in each room and kept the building comfortable inside which was good given is was in the 90's outside during our stay.

There are two ranges/ovens and two fridges in the kitchen. Not a ton of pots and pans and griddles, but adequate to get by. Surprisingly there were TVs in almost every room so we could watch the Olympics during visiting time.

There is foosball, air hockey, ping pong, a large open room in the basement and a media room with a large screen projector for DVDs.

There is a volleyball court outside, but there are a still a ton of goatheads that stick in your shoes and in the ball so we had to abandon that activity. I know they have tried to get rid of them, but will probably have to resod or something.

We drove to Dierks Lake and Shoshone Falls for day trip which was nice.

It was amazing to find a place with so many rooms, bathrooms, and beds so this worked great for our group which has a tight budget. Would definitely stay again and recommend. Just enjoy the old creaky hard wood floors and history.

Great Place for a Large Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Historic Gooding University Inn. It's the perfect spot for a large family reunion. Plenty of space for everyone (though a few more bathrooms upstairs would be nice)! There were even more beds than we expected. It's nice to have a place where everyone can gather--inside and out. The kitchen had plenty of space and all we needed to make meals for everyone. As stated on the listing, the building is a work in progress, but we found it clean and comfortable. And you can't beat the price!

The owners are wonderful--easy to access, flexible, and accommodating. By calling ahead, we were able to check in a bit early, they allowed us to use their hoses for outdoor water activities, and they answered every call and question right away. My niece ended up leaving her expensive dental appliance at the Inn. When I contacted them about it they responded within minutes that they had found it and shipped it right to us within the hour.

Great family reunion place

  • 5 of 5

Our family booked this place for 5 days and it was perfect for our needs. We had 7 families (14 adults, 18 kids). There were plenty of beds to spare and even some empty bedrooms. Lots of bunk beds and triple bunk beds made for fun cousin sleepovers. The beds were clean and comfortable. All rooms except for one had window units for A/C and they worked just fine. Some windows could probably benefit from being resealed, but it was not a problem.

The kitchen, dining and living room was a great gathering space and a perfect size for us. The kitchen could use some new pots & pans, a colander for draining pasta, a crockpot and mixing bowls that are microwavable, but other than that it had everything we needed (even a KitchenAid!).

There were plenty of towels for everyone in the laundry room. And soap available for doing laundry.

The game room had loads of fun games and the foosball table got plenty of use from us. The pool table, air hockey table and ping pong tables in the basement were a hit with the kids as well. We used the "ballroom" for a family talent show and also for playing games late into the night while babies slept upstairs.

We really enjoyed playing volleyball on the lawn, but beware of goatheads. Do not go barefoot. The lawn could use a good weed treatment.

We also used the nice fire pit to make s'mores.

We did several activities nearby - ice caves, Shoshone Falls, 4th of July parade, etc.

Our family really liked this place. It was easy and fun to gather together, but we all had our own rooms and were able to spread out when necessary.

Clean, historic, spacious

  • 5 of 5

We just had our reunion here with 36 people and we had more than enough rooms and bathrooms. The common area and eating areas were more than adequate. The owners were wonderful to work with and we are already planning our next stay. The inn is historic and it can only get better!

A Great Family-Friendly Resort

  • 4 of 5

The resort was very family-friendly! We had 25 people attend. The bedrooms were clean and accommodated all of our family's needs. The kitchen and dining hall were large and great as well. We had a lot of fun in the theater room watching movies, sharing stories, and had a great karaoke night while at the resort. We visited Dierkes Lake near Shoshone Falls one day, and the Craters of the Moon just north of Carey another day.

The owners are still working on remodeling parts of the resort and are doing a wonderful job both inside and out. The owners are very accommodating and friendly and want their patrons to feel welcome and to relax and enjoy their stay.

Lots of room and a great price!

  • 3 of 5

We absolutely loved staying here! There was so much room! We were having a family reunion and everyone had beds and we weren't crowded. The kitchen was great and there was plenty of room in the great room to gather as a whole family. The price was really great too!
