About William Barker

My wife Lois and I have lived in this home since 1987, having built a ceramic studio in the back for Lois who is a studio potter (I help her with things, but she's the star!). I'm a businessman who owns Barker Consulting Partners. Lois and I are active in our local church, mentoring young couples about to get married. During the summer, we love to sit at the Fairfield Beach and eat our salads from Chipotle and in the winter, slide down nearby Round Hill with our grandchildren. When we're not with our grandchildren, we mostly we talk about Lois's latest art project in her studio. We cannot say we are extroverts, but we like meeting people and hearing their stories (if they are interested in telling them). We've traveled extensively and love to talk about international locations (I've done business in 24 countries around the world and have visited 38). We're in our 60's but still pretty active: Lois in the studio and I'm approaching my 22nd year of snowboarding. Come stay with us!

William Barker purchased this studio in 1986

Why William Barker chose Fairfield County

When Lois first walked into this house, she knew it was to be hers, despite my asking her not to fall in love with any house since that would make purchase negotiations harder! Having moved 14 times in the first 14 years of our married lives together, Lois and I have not moved from this house (or even considered it). We raised our daughter in this home and now we have the opportunity to share it with new friends -- and we love it!

What makes this studio unique

It is not often that one can legitimately say there is a unique aspect to this house, but there is here: we have a working pottery studio attached and we welcome visitors to observe, try their hand casually, or even work out an arrangement to work here seriously.

Exceeded our expectations

Lovely people and property. The Barkers were gracious, available whenever needed but unobtrusive. They are attentive to small details which make a vacation feel like home. The property is private, well-appointed, and very comfortable.

Lovely place

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful studio apartment -- nice size with a kitchenette, patio, semi-private sleeping area and bathroom complete with a washer and dryer. Even though we were only there one night, Bill and Lois made us feel quite welcome. It was almost like a B&B as they provide a generous continental breakfast for your first night. They even provided luxurious bathrobes. There was a washer/dryer unit complete with detergent! The only thing we didn't like it that we could hear people talking above us which was unexpected. Someone took a shower after 11 p.m. and it was quite noisy in our bedroom area.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely -- in spite of hearing the noises from the floor above. We've recommended it to relatives in the area who might have out of town guests visiting them.

What a great trip!

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place, great location, wonderful hosts. We loved it. Fairfield has so much to offer. Easy access to surrounding countryside, absolutely beautiful in the fall, great restaurants, entertainment, and so much more. We only got a chance to meet our host Bill, a truly marvelous soul, Lois seemed very busy with her business in their studio, creating works of art. We loved our stay!

Outstanding Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for ten days. It is located directly across the street from an entrance to the Fairfield University Campus. It is a short trip to Fairfield town center and a gorgeous beach. The apartment is lovely - beautifully furnished with exquisite antiques. It has a lovely patio, complete with dining furniture, umbrella, and gas grill. The gardens are carefully tended and in full bloom. The owners provided everything imaginable and were gracious without being intrusive. Overall, our stay was a wonderful experience!

We call it our vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time ever doing a rental like this. It always kind of scared me, especially with two toddlers and not knowing the people who you are renting from etc etc. We were in the middle of a move and my husband was traveling. It was a heat wave and we needed air conditioning and my kids desperately wanted to see their dog who had been in the kennel for two weeks while our new house was being finished.

This listing stuck out because of the warmth conveyed in the description. The people seemed nice!

This place FAR exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect. So close to literally everything. A beautiful backyard and our own deck right outside the door. My kids absolutely loved it. I haven't seen them so happy in quite a while. The owners are some of the nicest people I've met. This apartment had everything we needed. 2 huge TVs, Apple TV, full kitchen (which had goodies to welcome us) and such comfy beds.

They love hosting and you can tell. Thank you for making our first experience like this not only a saving grace when we needed it, but a memory of fun!!!!!! We will be back. We called it our vacation house!

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Bill and Lois's rental property for our daughters graduation from fairfield university and were very happy with our stay.We had a previous disaster with a rental through VRBO that ended up being a scam so we're nervous about trying to rent this way again but it could not have been better .The apartment was very comfortable and the owners thought of everything we could need even including a sewing kit and chocolates by the bed ! There was also access to a patio which was great to entertain our friends who came to the graduation.Bill and Lois were wonderful with all my questions and I would recommend renting from them any time the entire stay was wonderful very comfortable beds and very thoughtful hosts a true treasure thank you Bill and Lois for enhancing our graduation experience.
