Private access to 3/8 mile blue ribbon trout fishing! Enjoy the thrill of catching rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout within steps of the cabin.
Situated near the Beartooth Mountains,13 miles west of Absarokee on the banks of the Stillwater River, guests at The River Cabin at Falcon's Ledge can enjoy a variety of activities including fly and freshwater fishing, day hikes, horseback or ATV riding, whitewater rafting, snorkeling and swimming, in-season hunting and historic scenic drives.
If your goal is rest and relaxation, The River Cabin at Falcon's Ledge offers peace and quiet all around. One can simply sit on the deck with a cool drink in hand (and a fishing pole nearby) watching the Stillwater River as it rushes by in the springtime or glides lazily by in the late summer and fall. There is little ambient light in the area, so stars are aplenty, making for fun nighttime sky viewing all summer!
Located between the rural towns of Absarokee and Nye Montana, this cabin's interior is newly remodeled and updated. Two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a queen and a single bed offers overnight accommodations to five.
Kurt and Donna von Nieda moved their family to The River Cabin at Falcon's Ledge in the Stillwater Valley from Washington state. It was always their dream to live in Montana and they have raised three children in The River Cabin. They love the valley, the people and the wildlife in this little bit of 'heaven on earth.'
Donna von Nieda purchased this cabin in 1998
This property was selected primarily because of its variety of land features. From the 3/8 of a mile of river front to the landmark 'teakettle' rock, this piece of property is ever changing and dramatic.
One of the best aspects of staying at The River Cabin at Falcon's Ledge is that you get to listen to the soothing sounds and watch the cascade of water flowing by. Couple that with the lilting sounds of birds and wind in the trees, and (at the right time of year) the fragrance of lilacs in the air and you have an experience like none other. With little ambient light and noise, there is a tranquility and sense of peace at The River Cabin that is hard to find nowadays.
There were so many special moments that our party of four will remember for years to come. We delighted in the scenery, the wildlife, and the seclusion of the beautiful river's edge cabin and were especially grateful for the owners' efforts as Kurt and Donna were generous in sharing their time and unique knowledge of the area. The cabin's appliances were top of the line and the washer, dryer, abundant hot water supply, new dishwasher and large refrigerator contributed to our enjoyment during our relaxing 3 week stay. The fishing was amazing and many "big" fish stories will be shared over the long winter months.
This cabin was the perfect retreat! We were in town, with my in-laws, for a wedding and couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to relax and unwind.
The cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Each summer my friends and I meet in the Absarokee area to fish the local waters and play cards at night. The cabin is situated right on a prime section of the Stillwater. Numerous fish in the 14 to 16" range were caught within the access of the cabins boundaries. It was a short drive to other popular fishing access areas we fish annually including Castle Rock, Moraine, the West Fork of the Stillwater and Woodbine (upper Stillwater).
The cabin was spacious, tastefully decorated and included everything we needed for our five night stay. The rooms were very neat and clean with comfortable beds. The kitchen was well stocked with quality cookware, utensils and table ware. Evenings are amazing as the cooler night air settles in and the incredible stars become visible. We spent time each night star gazing and saw countless constellations, shooting stars and vivid views of the Milky way each night.
The owner greeted us upon arrival, showing us the basics of the property and could not have been more welcoming. She told us not to hesitate to call should we have any questions or concerns. In 14 years of meeting up in the area, this property ranks up there among the best in many ways. I'm sure it will be considered for next year.
Thanks for making our stay terrific!
Beautiful scenery outside every window. We didn't have time to try the fishing, as we were busy taking in the scenery of the surrounding area and mountains on our side by sides. Donna met us just after we checked in. She knows a lot about surrounding area and is a very sweet person. You will love your stay at this cabin. The beds are very comfortable and the linens, pillows and bedding are a dream to sleep in. I would book this cabin again!! Don't forget to stop at Carter's Camp bar and restaurant! Cold beer and good food!
Two bedrooms, 4 adults, stayed here for 5 nights. Donna was flexible in our arrival time, and so welcoming upon our arrival and throughout our stay. She is such a knowledgeable and caring person and host. She provided a lot of suggestions for "to do" activities. We followed her recommendation for the nearby Tippit Rise Art Center in Fishtail (one of the highlights of our stay). We also had good luck with her fishing recommendations and caught some brown and rainbow trout outside the cabin. We also enjoyed a day whitewater rafting out of Absarokee. On our last day, Donna really went the extra mile and led us on a wonderful interpretive hike up the mountain ridge beside her house (behind the cabin). That was a neat, and very physically challenging experience - we'll never forget it. This cabin is remote (7-mile dirt road drive after you reach the town of Nye). It will take you some extra time to drive to nearby towns because of the Spring 2015 rock slide 1/4 mile from the cabin on Stillwater Creek Road blocking direct access from Absarokee (you must drive through Fishtail and Nye to access the cabin). I recommend buying groceries at the IGA Market in Absarokee, and then get other daily things at Fishtail General Store. The cabin was clean, had Wi-Fi, and was well stocked with full kitchen with basic supplies and laundry. We made an apple cobbler from the apple tree outside the cabin. Middle of the night star gazing on the porch was awesome - millions of stars, Milky Way, etc. Wildlife included the daily deer, trotting turkeys, and rabbits. Playing the piano on the porch was pretty neat too.
Attended a family wedding in Nye, MT. Scenery and weather was gorgeous and peaceful. Cabin has all the amenities you need; washer/dryer, dishwasher. There is no doubt you will have a god night's rest. Woke up to the beautiful sound of the rolling river - had breakfast on wrap around porch/deck. Plenty of hiking to do. Would definitely go back!
