The space

Location is everything! The apartment is located in the historic Eastern market neighborhood in the heart of Capitol Hill. The home is on a beautiful tree lined street overlooked by the nations congressional buildings just 7 blocks away!

Sleep a family or group of 6 with plenty of space to relax; The master bedroom has a Queen bed, the second smaller bedroom also has a Queen bed and there is a sofa bed in the living space. Our apartment is a great home base after a long day walking the monuments and Museums - kick back and enjoy a movie on the 63" TV screen!

You are also in strolling distance to some of the City`s best restaurants and so most of our guests eat out a lot during their stay!

Guest access:

Access to the basement is separate from the main house (via the side yard) so you can come and go as you please.

We are here if you need us! We manage several listings in DC and we work hard to make sure you have everything you need for your stay.

Getting around:

The location is perfect for walking to everything; public transportation, food and sights!

You are 2 blocks from the Eastern Market Metro and can easily rent bikes via City Bikes and Capitol Bikeshare. The home is in walking distance to the Capitol, Supreme Court, Libraries of Congress, grocery stores, Eastern Market, and dozens of restaurants!

If you are driving, it has incredibly easy access to/from the highway and we can provide a parking permit for your stay!

For grocery stores there are 3 within walking distance

1) Yes Organic Market 2 blocks away; 2) Harris Teeter 7 blocks away; and 3) Safeway 10 blocks away. CVS, Starbucks, and Dunkin` Donuts are all within 5 minutes walking distance.

Other things to note:

Please inquire first if your check-in is within 48 hours of your arrival dates!

This is an older house with the owner living upstairs so you might hear him or his children occasionally. White noise machines are provided for your convenience.

This apartment does not have a full kitchen. It`s perfect for vacations where you want breakfast before you head out for the day and then for drinks or light meals in the evening. There is a European style refrigerator, microwave oven, and all all the other small appliances you need.

If you want to stay in for dinner, there are literally 100`s of delivery options from which to choose or, with the owner`s permission, make a meal on the gas grill on the patio!

- Gas grill use available with advanced permission.

- Back yard use allowed when owner is not using or ask you to join him for a drink!

- This is a row house in a quiet neighborhood. Respect the neighbors.

- Secure or do not leave valuables outside of apartment. It is in the city and crime, while rare, does occur.

- The home is over 100 years old! Be gentle on it, especially the plumbing.

We do have a parking permit available if requested in advance. This allows you to park on the street but doesn`t guarantee a space. Normally you can find parking in the surrounding streets. The permit must be used at all times to avoid getting ticketed (even for the shortest period of time!)

We insist on a $50 an hour penalty for unannounced late checkout. We host upwards of 30 homes so it can be very problematic if not pre-arranged.

Excellent location and beautiful property

The apartment is just 3 blocks from the Metro station and 2 blocks from numerous restaurants . This is the perfect place to stay if your coming to D.C. The apartment was very clean and updated. Great place!

Very Nice Rental

This is a very clean, nicely renovated, basement apartment with 2 bedrooms (comfortable queen in each room) and a very large family room area with big-screen TV and large couch. Kitchen is small but served its purpose.

The area is safe and picturesque. It is convenient to the Metro subway station (about a 7 min walk). Maybe a 15-min walk to the capitol building. A few smaller grocery-type stores with basics in the area (but expensive). Lots of restaurants on 8th St nearby (we recommend Ted's Bulletin). Some homeless asking for money on 8th street.

We parked our car on the street close to the unit and did not use it during our stay. Between walking, taking cabs, and the subway, we were able to get around as needed.

This rental worked out very well for us.

Great apartment in a safe, convenient neighborhood

Our family of four had a wonderful trip to Washington DC and our stay in this basement apartment. The apartment was well maintained and in great condition. There is a private entrance around the side of the home and we were able to come and go easily. The apartment has all the amenities you could want. The small kitchen is convenient for what it is. Don't consider cooking a significant meal there, but it's great to have the fridge, toaster, and microwave for quick breakfasts. Being an older house you can certainly hear the footsteps upstairs, but they aren't terribly disruptive. If you've ever lived in a downstairs apartment you'll be familiar with the sounds. The location was great. It's a 5 minute walk to the Eastern Market Metro station or a 20 minute walk to the Capital building and the Mall beyond. Both walks are along safe neighborhood streets that are well traveled by locals and easy to navigate. 8th Street also has several great restaurants nearby. We had a great trip and would feel comfortable recommending this apartment to our friends planning a trip to Washington DC.

Beautiful space great location

Clean and convenient

The basement apartment was very clean and well stocked with linens, pillows and blankets. Several convenient "extras" were provided like laundry detergent, shampoo, sugar and oil & vinegar. Less than 2 blocks away, 8th Street is lined with many restaurants and shops. The Metro is just a few blocks past that. The only frown we had about this rental was being awoken both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7:15am to the sound of adult feet walking and children scampering above us. During the day, the owner's activity sounds blended with that of ours and the community around us.
