About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 2)

Oakston Cabin is a lovingly restored 1870 Sawmillers Cabin on our property in Western Valley in Little River. Only 45mins from Christchurch but in a different world. It is a simple and clean wee space with log burner, kitchenette, bathroom and long drop toilet with the most peaceful views.

You are welcome to stroll over our farm or take in some of the beautiful nearby walks. For some it is a night away after riding the local rail trail. Or you may want a romantic night or two away, off grid. We provide bicycles and a Tandem for the romantically inclined to ride down to the local cafe and art gallery. The out door bath is always loved, lite the fire underneath, bring it to the temperature you want, then lie back and listen to the stream and watch the stars.

The beautiful Akaroa township is only 30 mins drive away.

Cell phone reception is marginal and there is no power points to charge laptops or phones. But we are happy to help out in an emergency.

Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;

This tiny quirky cabin has been lovingly restored and furnished with old-style items.

This tiny quirky cabin has been lovingly restored and furnished with old-style items. It's literally like stepping back in time to stay here. Secluded and relaxing. Ideal for first or second honeymoon.

Be aware that there is nowhere to eat our in Little River in the evenings so you need to bring your own food (and ice for the chilly bin) or be prepared to drive -possibly all the way to Akaroa. We stayed in February and the hilltop cafe was also shut at 6 pm!

The Bath is a great experience.

Exactly as advertised.

Exactly as advertised. Clean and off grid. We booked 2 nights so that we could spend the day in Akaroa - went there for an hour and rushed back for another bath. Perfect for reading or playing games but use the mosquitos spray first.

Great location for a weekend away.

  • 5 of 5

Great location for a weekend away. The cabin is really well done, inside and out; very authentic feeling. There is the perfect balance of going 'off-grid', and having those wee luxuries that make it comfortable. We loved the outdoor bath, this is a real bonus. The cabin was warm, clean and tidy. We'd stay here again, definitely. Loved it.
