This beach bungalow is a step into yesteryear with all the modern amenities. It is perfect in every way. Newly renovated and furnished. You can dine right outdoors on your deck. The grill is ready to go. You can open the windows to hear the ocean waves from your bedrooms. You just drop your bags and head to the water for all Jerusalem has to offer. Our house at 6 Champlin Ave is a very quiet street in the village and our cottage is one of the closest to the sand. We counted once that 150 steps is all it takes.
As undergraduates at the University of Rhode Island, my husband and I fell in love with the beach life. Years later, we knew we wanted to raise our family with that familiar appreciation for life by the sea. We took a drive into Jerusalem one day and landed on our cottage. We are only the second owners. It was built in 1939 and was passed down until we purchased it in 2004. We plan to do the same.
Carla O'Brien purchased this cottage in 2004
Jerusalem is a quintessential beach community and fishing village. It is remarkably preserved in time and without all the hussle and bussle of urban living. The Cottage is perfect for us as a couple and for our family. As urbane architectural preservationists, we were committed to it's tranquility as well as it's charm.
For the beach life, the cottage is well planned out. It offers a wide open floor plan for kitchen and living space. You can spread out and settle in for a meal, a movie or a game of cards. It's all one floor, so easy to keep. The outdoor shower is very private and always yields hot water. The neighbors are extremely friendly and very hospitable. There is plenty of parking for your cars and day guests. Just bring your water toys, beach chairs and a suit.
I went mid-Sept and it was quiet enough that I could hear the waves all day and night. Lovely sea breezes through the cottage's many windows. Bunnies in the back yard, egrets in the marshes. Be aware, if you're wedded to media: the cable is bare-bones basic and neither the dvd nor cd player work well. There is wi-fi, though.
Found this cottage online when looking up places to stay while in rhode island . It was smarter staying at cottage than a hotel room. Typical beach cottage not luxery but it's clean and that's all that matters. 2 bedrooms sun porch open concept living room kitchen. Sliders out to patio with table chairs umbrella gas grill. From front yard can walk to beach 1 minute. Loved the location we were central to everything newport was 30mi utes foxwoods about 35 40 minutes. Very quiet neighborhood felt very safe. We ate all our dinners out and had breakfast at cabin. Everything is supplied from coffee maker to pans and even blow dryer. The only problem was showered doors would come off track. If your looking for a clean safe beach cottage that doesn't break the bank this is it. I loved that we were able to arrive and check out anytime since knowone was scheduled to arrive. One more thing washer dryer portable and takes a long time and you have to wash and dry sheets and towels before you leave. If you have to check out by 10 am you better do it the night before or get up extra early or just bring your own. Luckily we only had 4 of us and did not need all bedding. All in all good stay and would stay again if price and availability is still good
Overall this is a very cute property in a great location. The furniture and some of the appliances are a bit dated but overall our weekend stay was very nice. I suggest double checking before booking the property what the arrangement is for linens. The washer and dryer is very small so if the expectation is that you leave the house with clean linens you will need to begin working on that very far in advance of when you leave. The property manager was very responsive to any questions and courteous. Overall a good experience!
6 of us stayed in this beach cottage over the weekend. It was lovely, very clean, and had a great common room that could fit all of us comfortably. The biggest plus was how close it was to the private beach! (Just a few steps away!) The only reasons we did not give our stay a 5 out of 5 was because the bathroom and shower doors were broken, and the coffee pot did not work correctly. Aside from that though, we would highly recommend staying here and would come back!
