Photos and Description of this Wiscasset holiday house

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 4

This private two bedroom, two bath home is in a world of its own, yet only minutes from Rt. 1. Boasting one of the most beautiful, unobstructed views of the Sheepscot River available, the home comes with full kitchen, high-speed WIFI, phone with free domestic long-distance, and, due to a request from a couple of past guests, cable TV!

Fully equipped modern kitchen includes all the appliances you'd expect (refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, dishwasher, electric range/convection oven, microwave) and some you wouldn't (coffee maker, panini maker, blender, lobster pot, beater, toaster oven) . Last year, we have also added a new washer/dryer, so you can go home with clean clothes. Detergent and dryer sheets provided.

Home has monstrous outdoor deck with equally monstrous 6 burner grille and table with seating for six. All bedding, towels, plates, cups, glasses, cookware and tableware provided. Every room has a view, including newly built large sunroom with two couches and additional access to deck. Two bedrooms, maximum occupancy 4 people.

About Kathy and Bob

No matter where we travel in the world, we always look forward to returning to our little house on the river. Peaceful, scenic and minutes away from great fishing, bird watching or just cruising the backwaters of coastal Maine, this house is truly a sanctuary from the outside world.

Kathy and Bob purchased this house in 2004

Why Kathy and Bob chose Boothbay Harbor Area

Waterfront property, at least with a decent view and not miles and miles from civilization is something not easily found in Maine. We fell in love with Cowseagan Narrows the moment we saw it. Just coming down the drive will be enough to make you fall in love with it, too.

What makes this house unique

Magnificent views, secluded setting off lightly travelled road and moments to shopping and dining. Ultra convenient by boat or car to Boothbay Harbor.

Mostly good

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is situated on the banks of the Sheepscot River at the Cowsweagen Narrows where the current runs very quickly at all but slack water between tides. Care must be taken, but it is lovely and fascinating. The site gives the feeling of privacy and is just beside and below the bridge to Westport Island. Having spent the majority of our life on or adjacent to the ocean, we felt close to home.

The cottage is immaculate and comfortable and the kitchen is fine. Our only problem was that six out of seven of the recessed light fixtures had burned out bulbs and lamps are at a premium, so reading after dark was difficult to say the least. Consequently we found it uncomfortable to be there after dark and left one day early. We hope the bulbs will be replaced prior to the arrival of subsequent visitors.

The deck is a fine place for morning coffee or afternoon Happy Hour.

The location is also ideal for visiting our long time friends in Wiscasset and on Westport Island.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words about your stay at our vacation home. We make sure everyone arrives to a spotless house, so it's nice to know you noticed. However, we're confused about the lights. When we checked them, only one had burned out. One has been intentionally left off, as it reflects on the TV and is annoying for people sitting on the couch. All told, there are 7 recessed lights, two track lights, one ceiling lamp, one floor lamp and one table lamp, all of which were completely operational, not to mention ceiling lights and lamps in all bedrooms and out in the sunroom. Additionally, there were and are backup bulbs for all fixtures in the closet in the kitchen. People have loved the fact that the house is private and quiet (as you also point out), but no one has ever mentioned being too uncomfortable to stay there after dark.

Clean, quiet, well equiped, beautiful location and near many points of interest

  • 5 of 5

Greetings, Kathy and Bob!

Our visit at your cottage in Cowseagan Narrows was extremely pleasant. We enjoyed the beautiful location overlooking the Sheepscot River watching the remarkable tidal changes, lobster boats at work and the water birds. The perfectly situated deck was a grand way to enjoy ones early morning coffee and just soak up the views!

The house was spotlessly clean, well equipped and satisfactory in every way. We have never felt as comfortable in stocking feet in a rental. Just like home.

We traveled in the area and enjoyed the beautiful Maine coast villages, profusion of antique shops (wife) and Bath Iron Works (me). As woodworking is a hobby, I very much enjoyed a trip to the town of Liberty and the Liberty Tool Company. A great collection of old and used tools. I came away with a few gems. Your cottage was a perfect homeport and a pleasant place to come home to after a day of tripping.

With our thanks and best regards,

Cynthia and Roy Smith

Owner's Response: Hi Cynthia and Roy, Thanks so much for staying with us, and for your very kind words. Had we known you were into woodworking, we would also have recommended Lie-Nielsen Toolworks up in Warren. They have a remarkable collection of really cool tools. A woodbutcher's paradise. Kathy takes a lot of time and attention to detail when servicing the house between guests. I guess that's why you can be comfortable in stocking feet! Thanks again and our best regards, Kathy and Bob

Very peaceful .

The owners were very gracious and left a very sweet welcome basket for us on our arrival. The home was clean , spacious and comfortable . My dogs were at home there and had some freedom in the yard which was good since that's what they are used too. There are plenty of natural wonders to see right at the house and in the area. We saw a bald eagle and a osprey fight right off the back deck. Sunrise and sunsets were stunning. If we went back we would want to spend more time in Boothbay and Bath in town browsing the quaint homes and shops. We recommend this home.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your very kind words. Usually, our guests are arriving after a long day of travel, often late at night, so we think it's nice to walk in to some snacks, and make some coffee in the morning. You really do see some great shows on the deck, no matter what time of the day or night. Totally agree with you on Boothbay Harbor. That's actually where we take our boat on the weekends, and fish the area. Thanks again!

Heavenly views!

  • 5 of 5

Great house, location & owners! The long view up the river can't be beat, and the deck is so relaxing. House has everything you need (laundry, wifi, tempurpedic mattress pad) with great flow from the huge kitchen/living/dining space out to the equally huge porch. Town is a short drive away, unusual for midcoast Maine living. Yet you feel quite rural. Just lovely.

Wonderful and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Truly a wonderful stay! Bob and Cathy were so accomodating, as well as extremly kind. Their house was spotless and had everything needed to just relax. The central location was perfect; it was private, and made it easy for day trips, as well as very relaxing to come back to and sit outside to the amazing view!

Thank you for a perfect and peaceful stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to send in your comments. A lot of guests come to Maine looking for peace, quiet and privacy, and we believe our home offers that, plus, as you mentioned, an awesome view! You picked a beautiful, although somewhat warm week to visit. So happy you enjoyed yourselves. Now, next year, bring your daughter! Thanks again, Kathy and Bob
