About Michael Marzolf

My wife and I have been part-time residents of Park Rapids Lakes Area since 2005.

Having camped in the area as kids, coming back was so exciting! We appreciate that the area is low-key, and quieter than the Brainerd area, but still there is plenty to do.

We are both avid cyclists and runners, and REALLY appreciate the Heartland Trail (49 miles paved). We also are triathletes, and take part in the Northwoods Triathlon each year.

We hope you enjoy our cabin and the Park Rapids Area as much as we have, and that you come back to build more family memories!

Michael Marzolf purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Michael Marzolf chose Minnesota

We purchased this home on Big Sand as a legacy property, one that will be in our family forever. As you will see, it is in beautiful shape, ready to be enjoyed. We are interested in having you stay if you are interested in taking care of it too -- that way it will be just as nice when you return next year :-)

Great Place! Even better owner!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our family had a wonderful stay here. From the time we arrived, we were greeted with a beautiful, immaculately clean, north woods home to enjoy. The first thing we realized was that we had packed too much "stuff" with us. Because, literally everything we needed was provided. The house was very well stocked with everything from kitchen utensils to beach and bath towels to games to firewood for campfires............. They even provided the fixings for s'mores!

The owner, Mike, messaged me shortly after we checked in to be sure that everything was good. Turned out the WiFi had been knocked out by a lightning strike, or power surge, taking the card out of the receiver. I assured him it wasn't a big deal to us. But, he had a repair person out right away and got it running! Very nice to have an owner who is that responsive, instead of excelling at making excuses!

The house is very well kept. There are a lot of trees on the property, so it feels secluded. The dock on the lake is new and very high quality. The swimming area is sandy, the water is crystal clear, with a very gradual drop in depth. So, it was perfect for our little granddaughters to swim.

My wife and I have been bringing our family to the Park Rapids area for 30 years. This property is, by far, the best overall experience and value that we've ever experienced up here! We left the place we had previously stayed at for several years, because the owner had let the resort fall into disrepair and the service had diminished. Not the case here! I can't say enough nice things about the owner, (Mike) and the great hospitality we were shown.

Thanks for a great vacation!

Family of 11: Grandparents, Children, Grandchildren

  • 5 of 5

Our family time for these five days in July was superb. The cabin floor plan is perfect. The three game tables in the basement were a surprise and a plus. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen amenities were everything we could have asked for. The games and children"s activities held the interest of our young family members. Our oldest daughter and her significant other caught several fish, including a couple large bass. The long walk down the pier/dock felt a little surreal and the kids loved it. And I can't forget the steps. They were a bit intimidating but they certainly kept us from gaining too much weight; we approached them as our daily workout. The small children had no trouble with them. Chairs on the landings waited to give us respite if we needed it.

We rented a pontoon from Water Toys. It was perfect for pulling the grandchildren on a tube.

My very favorite activity at any lake includes watching the sunset; Big Sand Lake accommodated our desires. The sunsets were spectacular.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Michael's lake home. The weather was perfect EVERY day. Not only is the lake home beautiful but so is the lake. We swam, tubed, fished, boated, and snorkeled every day. The water clarity is amazing. The sunsets were beautiful. This owner is very attentive to his renter's needs. We really appreciated the high chair and pak n play that he had waiting for us when we got there. (I really think he would have pizza delivered to the lake home if you messaged him and said you were hungry. Haha) I would highly recommend this lake home. I can't think of one thing that would have made our week better. Thank you Michael!

Amazing Lakefront Home Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from our weeklong stay at Mike and Nerissa’s home on Big Sand Lake. We had the most wonderful vacation! We did not want our week to end! Mike and Nerissa’s home is truly beautiful inside and out. The home was very spacious and easily accommodated my family of 10 and we did not feel as if we were on top of one another. The home is stalked with a lot of care; plenty of kitchen amenities and cooking utensils, lots of both bathroom and beach towels, firewood for the fire pit, fans for the bedrooms and the beds were all very comfortable. The outdoor space is great as well. My nephews enjoyed riding their bikes countless times around the circular driveway and we enjoyed several campfires at the designated fire pit area. The outdoor grill and table on the deck was perfect for dinners in the evening. Big Sand Lake is a very clean, clear lake and we took advantage of our time in the water. Having the boat lift next to the dock was an added bonus as we were able to bring our boat and easily store for the week. The dock is one of the longest docks I’ve ever seen and you can tell it’s brand new. There is a very nice sitting area at the end of the dock with built in benches which were great to watch the sunsets. There are several steps leading down from the home to the dock, but that was never an issue for my family. All and all, truly one of the best properties I have ever rented on VRBO and I have rented several. Mike is very, very responsive and you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his home and truly wants his guests to have a wonderful rental experience, which we had no problem having!

FIREWORKS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED!
Last year there was a grass fire from just a sparkler -- We apologize but this cannot happen again, and thus we cannot allow fireworks.

A NOTE REGARDING NOISE AND BEING RESPECTFUL TO OUR NEIGHBORS:
We had many families stay at the cabin in and they have had loads of fun, and this makes us very happy! Unfortunately we had one guest who was loud and obnoxious, including the use of profanity. Our neighbors were offended, and my wife and I were as well. This incident caused an enormous amount of stress and ended up costing me over $2,000 to defend myself. I recovered part of this cost from withholding 100% of the guests damage deposit. We truly want every guest to have the most fun possible while they are at the cabin -- we simply remind you that this fun cannot be at the expense of our neighbors. Sincere thanks in advance!!
