About the property

3 Bedrooms, Loft, 2 Bathrooms (sleeps up to 9 in beds, 2 air mattresses)

During Mid-November to Mid-March, please plan to utilize an AWD or 4X4 to get to the cabin. The roads to the property are plowed, but not during an active storm. After plowing, there is the potential for 2-3" packed snow and ice.

This is a beautiful, secluded log cabin nestled on three acres of forest land in the mountains above Jemez Springs at an elevation of approximately 8,300 feet. We have enjoyed this wonderful place and want to share with other friends, families and guests.

Located at mile marker 33 on Hwy 4, the cabin is 1 hour 45 minutes from the ABQ International Airport and 1 hour 20 minutes from downtown Santa Fe.

Upon arrival, you will find an array of amenities to enjoy during your relaxing mountain retreat, including:

1. an open floor plan with exposed log beams;

2. There are 3 bedrooms and a loft area, which are organized as follows:

a. 1st floor – King size bed

b. 2nd floor- Double bed

c. 2nd Floor – triple bunk (3 twins)

d. 2nd Floor Loft area – trundle bed (2 twins)

e. There is room in the loft, in the bunk room and in the living room to put the 2 air mattresses.

3. a dining room with seating for eight;

4. large windows to admire the beautiful vistas;

5. two full bathrooms;

6. a full kitchen, including a dishwasher

7. an outdoor grill;

8. a full laundry; and

9. a wood burning stove with pre-chopped wood outside.

- if you need basic groceries, Amanda’s, a small general store, located 7 miles south on Hwy. 4, has groceries, bait and tackle, and fishing licenses;

There are books, board games, video games, and movies catering to all ages. There is a flat screen TV, Blu-Ray player and XBox 360, along with basic internet access. Cable and basic television are not available. The cabin has very spotty cell reception, but has a landline with free long distance throughout the contiguous United States. Internet is also very unreliable but who needs it with all this?!

From the large front porch, which accommodates up to eight adults, you can enjoy incredible sunsets, star gazing and abundant wildlife. In the winter months, enjoy the view of the snow-capped ridge and sledding on the hill in the front of the cabin (two small sleds are provided).

Hiking is limitless, and the cabin is a perfect starting point for walks in the forest or strolls on the access road. The cabin is ten minutes from waterfalls and swimming at Jemez Falls and the East Fork Trail to the south. Fishing and hiking at Las Conchas is 10 minutes away to the north. Within 25 minutes you can visit Bandelier National Monument, the Valles Caldera or Fenton Lake. Within 30 minutes you can be in downtown Los Alamos in the north, skiing in Pajarito Ski Area or be in downtown Jemez Springs to the south.

The Village of Jemez Springs has great shopping flavored by local artists. There are great restaurants, including a real saloon where you can eat, drink and meet the locals. Also located in Jemez Springs is the famous hot springs and full service day spa where everyone on your trip can be pampered after a long day of enjoying the outdoors.

Enjoy the wonderful cabin with your friends and loved ones in this beautiful mountain setting. Have fun, enjoy the views, the air, and the peace and quiet.

Wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Bigfoot Cabin. We stayed the week after Christmas and there was well over a foot of snow all around the cabin. The sledding and snowplay was great. The home is beautiful and well equipped. The kitchen was great for cooking our own meals. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of linens and pillows. Even though it was cold and snowy outside, we were warm and toasty inside and the water heater kept up with our large group. There were games and movies provided for our indoor entertainment. The neighborhood is peaceful & fairly secluded with steep gravel roads, they definitely mean it when they say you need a 4x4 or AWD vehicle to get to it during winter but it was well worth it to stay at this little winter wonderland. They even had sleds on property for our use! We met a couple of the neighbors while out playing and they were very friendly. The one negative would be that there is no garbage pick up so you are expected to haul your own trash out or pay to leave it and the only dump station is only open Wed & Sat., this was somewhat annoying but we managed. We would definitely recommend this property and would like to visit again someday.

Professional, courteous owners, and a great base for exploration.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is roomy and comfortable, with Xbox games for the kids and a selection of adult and kid movies. Beds are everywhere! Plenty of space for 8-10 people, we'd guess. Well-stocked kitchen (but bring your own condiments) and a great location for exploring the Jemez Mountains. What set this apart for us was the professional attention of the owners, who made absolutely sure that we had all the information we'd need to make informed decisions about what type of car to bring in the winter (must-have 4WD or AWD) and who checked for ice on steps before we arrived. Although the well-defined rules might seem onerous to some free spirits, we appreciated greatly that they communicated their (very reasonable and fair) expectations up-front. Like many mountain properties, this would be a difficult cabin for those with limited mobility, especially in winter. Highly impressed and would definitely return!

Very nice stay, aside from missing info to start it off

  • 4 of 5

The home and area is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, not enough information was provided about the location and how to enter the home before we arrived.

We received a few emails after booking and one included an attachment with the rental agreement. The agreement noted the address and other contractural info.

We used google maps to get us as close as possible to the residence and then we consulted the rental agreement to look for more detailed directions and how to enter the house once we got there. As it turns out, this info was not included in the rental agreement. Luckily we found the house, but had no way a getting inside. We had to drive to a neighbors house, use their computer to email the property owners on how to get into the house. (No cell service on Verizon). Luckily they responded promptly and we got the key code. Apparently there should have been another attachment that included all of this information, that was ultimately not sent. My guess is that this mistake will not happen again.

Aside from this mixup, the place was beautiful, warm, and cozy. Internet is deathly slow, don't plan on streaming music.

Ultimately we would stay there again, and highly recommend it.
