About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Stairway to Heaven is a charming cottage located on Lake Lure, surrounded by trees in a relaxing and peaceful setting. Very private, yet conveniently close to local supermarket, several restaurants and Chimney Rock. This cozy abode has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a queen sized sofa bed in the living room. The entire house has been remodeled, savoring the knotty pine wood walls.

Upon entrance, you will find 2 bedrooms, one has a queen sized bed, the other has a set of log style bunk beds. The bathroom has a tub and shower. The large kitchen has plenty of work space and is filled with all the amenities, including a K Cup coffee maker. It is open to the dining room which features a gas fire place and a rustic style wood dining room table that seats 8. A flat screened television hangs above the mantel and can be viewed from the kitchen, dining room and living room. Downstairs is the master suite with private bath, gas fire place, TV and sofa.

Beyond the master suite is an enclosed porch with a glider, rocking chair and Foosball table. Lift up the top of the Foosball table and you will find other fun games. From the porch, step outside onto our new deck. Here you can enjoy meals, a glass of wine and listen to the sounds of the birds, crickets and water from the damn.

Continue on down the stairs to the boat house which houses a kayak, paddle board and other fun water items. Our view of the damn is lovely and set in a quiet part of the lake which is perfect for swimming or lying on a raft.

Whether you are looking for romance, an escape from your every day life or a relaxing family getaway, Stairway to Heaven is the answer.

About Mara and Frank Butera

My parents built a summer home on Lake Lure in 1950. I have many wonderful memories swimming and water skiing here. As soon as I introduced Frank to Lake Lure, he fell in love with the place. So much so, we got married here under the Gazebo across from the beach. We knew that one day we would buy a home here. This became a family affair. My cousin's husband was the contractor. My husband being in the kitchen remodeling business built all of the kitchen and bathroom cabinets as well as the master suite furniture. The painted window in the living room was done by my cousin. And some of the photographs on the walls were taken by another cousin who is a professional photographer living in Lake Lure.

We love our cottage and Lake Lure and hope that all who stay here, enjoy the peace and tranquility that this wonderful place provides.

Mara and Frank Butera purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Mara and Frank Butera chose Sunset Cove

We like that you can park directly in front of the house. Our street has easy access. No inclines for flat landers like ourselves. We feel like we are out in the woods, yet Ingles is only 2 miles away. The walk down to the boat house is great exercise. This house was in need of much repair, however we saw the potential and knew it was ours from the get go. I love the fact that we have so much land which we have future .plans to put in gardens. We also loved the knotty pine walls and wood floors and made a point of saving this.

What makes this cottage unique

We feel the house has so much charm. It is updated, yet rustic with an old time mountain feel. Our deck is wonderful any time, but we particularly love it at night. Sitting outside with a glass of wine and listening to the sounds of nature is as relaxing as it gets. And during winter, we love sitting in front of the fire place and playing board games or doing puzzles. We have been here for every season. My husband loves the winter when there are no leaves on the trees and you can see everything. I love the late spring when the trees are full and the flowers are beginning to blossom. Whatever your season, you can't miss.

Wonderful Week Away

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cottage on Lake Lure was just what we needed. We spent hours in the lake relaxing on the noodles and on the Kayaks. Evenings were spent making smores by the fire pit. Every morning we took our cup of coffee out on the deck and enjoyed the beautiful sounds of nature. The owners were very kind and easy to get up with if we had any questions. The home had everything you could need and we just loved the downstairs shower. We will definitely be back and would love to see it in the fall. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home.

Friends and Lake Lure

  • 5 of 5

We have been meeting our long time friends, who now live in Atlanta, for mini-vacations for quite a few years now. We came to Lake Lure for the first time last fall and really fell in love with the area. We were very pleased with the cottage: fully equipped kitchen, updated bathrooms, comfy beds, very clean, and beautiful lake/mountain views. We enjoyed trips to Asheville and Hendersonville and checked out some shops in Chimney Rock. We will definitely be back! Thank you Mara and Frank for sharing your comfy/cozy cottage with us.

This home was comfortable, clean and had great lake access. It is in a very quiet part of Lake Lure which is a spectacular location for a lake getaway. Can't say enough about the great time we had.

We were sad to leave

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for 2 perfect weeks! We were in the area to ride in a Gran Fundo Bike Tour in Asheville and made a vacation out of it. We're from just north of Baltimore, in Towson Md.. which is a 12 hour drive (though Mapquest and Google Maps say otherwise).

Nothing could have been better! There was one little issue with a smell I had an issue with though that was swiftly resolved. The house was cozy, clean and comfortable. Mara and Frank were great people to do business with. Lake Lure and the serounding area were picturesque. We'd come back again, no problem.

A Wonderful Vacation Home Where Memories Are Made

  • 5 of 5

Stairway to Heaven lived up to its name. Our family loved the home and had a great time on the lake for water sports. The home provided a peaceful place to relax with beautiful views of the lake from the inside the house, decks or screened in porch. The dock location in a quiet, no wake cove was great for just floating in the water or sitting in the comfortable chairs at the dock with the July weather being perfect for such activities. Having the kayak, canoe and paddle board ready to use from the dock was terrific, too. The home was clean with plenty of towels and linens. We loved that the home was pet friendly. Great tips were given on where to eat and what to do in the area. We visited The Biltmore, Chimney Rock, and Whitewater Rafting. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our time together at this wonderful place on Lake Lure. Memories made...priceless!
