Great getaway

Top shelf lake home with a great location. Handbergs Marina staff were very accommodating. Owner is responsive and clearly takes pride in this unit. Family enjoyed the fishing, hiking, and swimming. Thank you for letting us spend a week.

Wonderful Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked a multi-generational family getaway at this beautiful home. It was our first experience on Crane Lake and we all fell in love with the area. The house made for a wonderful experience. Great memories were made in the kitchen, pool room, and on the deck! Handberg's Marina was a great resource and is where we rented our pontoon. Voyagaire was a great stop for breakfast or drinks and appetizers. Our pontoon trip up to Kettle Falls was a spectacular trip that we will all remember. The house was very comfortable and has great views. We found the lake to be very quiet. We truly felt like we got away from the chaos of life and were in beautiful and relaxing retreat home. Staying at a boat-in only property was definitely exciting. The house was very well stocked. The hot water and WiFi was slightly limited. Our kids (ages 4, 5, and 7) loved it! The house is spacious, but there is no yard, so we were either in the house or on the water. We plan on staying here again!

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with several adults and 7 children and had a wonderful time. There are definitely fish to be caught off the dock and swimming to do, though as someone else mentioned water shoes are a must, really almost everywhere around this area as it's mostly rocky shore. The cabin is clean and well stocked; the kitchen in particular has more "stuff" in it than usual, including knives that work and spices/sugar. There isn't much around the area for groceries though, so whatever you want to have with you, you should bring.

We rented a pontoon boat from Pine Point Lodge and the owners Jeff and Cathy were great; they gave us a map marked with all the places to check out including several little beaches that were tucked away and a lot of fun to explore, and were just a couple minute boat ride away when we needed bait (or realized we forgot toothbrushes).

There is another cabin right next door, and if there are people there you will be sharing the dock area with them. Our "neighbors" were very nice, and it's no big deal, but maybe good to know that you will be in close proximity to other people if that cabin is rented.

One other small thing to note; there is Wi-Fi, but when I tried to use it I got a message saying that it had all been used for the month. Obviously one isn't there for the Wi-Fi-, but as I was planning to download my book onto my iPad once I go there, that was kind of a bummer. Take care of any important online tasks before you get there.

The area is remote and really beautiful. Most of the places we went we had to ourselves. We absolutely loved it, and will be back.

Absolutely Superb!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Log Home and Hilltop cabins for our "familymoon", including Grandparents, Kids, friends. We had such a great week on Crane Lake, and enjoyed immensely the Log home and Hilltop cabin. Both places are really great and well-kept. Thanks Gary!

Great Lake Home!

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 total guys for a weekend fishing trip. The cabin was comfortable and had great outdoor living space, we never felt like we were on top of one another. The fishing was tuff that weekend but having a nice place to go back to made it all worth it. A couple of things you should know: 1) there is moderate boat and float plane traffic in front of the cabin; nothing that should deter you from renting this place. 2) check with the owner to see if anyone is using the cabins next to this one, they are really close together. All in all I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place to relax. Lake was amazing, wilderness abound and the float planes are fun to watch. Cabin was stocked with all essentials including stuff not normally found (spices, garbage bags, etc...) Pleasently surprised by the upkeep and willingness to help from Gary.

Gateway to the Voyageurs National Park, within minutes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and Canada's Quentico Wilderness Area gives this special new log cabin a super location. Park starts at the north end of the lake. Motor boat and fish all day on different lakes Fishing is very good with many types of fish species. Lake trout, walleye, northern, bass, crappie, perch and more, with more lakes to explore out number the type of fish. Canoe from cabin to enter the BWCA with a few hours. Crane Lake offers great fishing and swimming. Swim and fish of the dock or take a 5 minute boat ride to the north end of the lake in the Park and float your boat in to a sandy shallow beach, put the beach chairs and cooler in the lake and enjoy! Must sees are the Vermillion River waterfall dumping into Crane Lake, park service has a dock at the bottom of falls to park and take the trail to the top, quite a sight. Sandpoint Lake features pictographs from our early inhabitants of this area. Go hike the surrounding granite cliffs from the log cabin and enjoy the fantastic views, birding, mushrooming, beach combing, blueberry picking for the pancakes on the griddle is usually very good out you back door from mid June to mid July. The water is super clean and great for water skiing, tubing, and swimming. Sit back on the deck and enjoy the sunsets and moon rising. Enjoy the numerous wildlife with loons coming and going, bald eagles perch form the tops of the tall white pines looking for their fish diner, spruce grouse commonly cross your trail. You are on the edge of the great wilderness of the Minnesota Canada border and the preserved wilderness parks from each, yet after all the exploring come back to the log home for all the comforts you could want on an upscale luxury vacation.
