There is an additional queen size sofa bed in the sun room bringing total beds to 5 with a maximum occupancy of 6+ (but remember ... only two bathrooms)

The large living area boasts a beautifully lighted sun room with all round windows for wonderful views of the river, golf course and sunset or could be used as an ideal artist's spot.

5 minutes walk to several restaurants and shops in Stockbridge town center. A pleasant 1.1 mile stroll to the Norman Rockwell Museum (ask us for the picturesque woodland route) 5 minutes drive to Tanglewood.

Easy access to Tanglewood and all the delights of the Berkshire summer season including the many stages of the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

Ask us about Tanglewood/Shakespeare tickets (we sometimes have discounted tickets) and picnic chairs for the summer season.

This 2 bedroom 2 bath cottage dates from the 1800's and was the former carriage house of the 1792 built main house. Norman Rockwell's close friend Doctor Donald Campbell used part of the main house as his doctor's office and is featured in the Rockwell painting 'Before the Shot'.

Other nearby attractions include the Norman Rockwell Museum, Chesterwood, Jacobs Pillow, Kripalu Yoga Center, The Mount (Edith Warton's wonderful property), Canyon Ranch and the Cranwell Resort and Spa in the neighboring village of Lenox, Stockbridge Bowl, Berkshire Botanical Garden and Alice's Restaurant to name just a few.

Winter wonderland with nearby ski areas; Butternut (10 minutes), Catamount (25 minutes) and Jiminy Peak (40 minutes). Miles of cross country skiing right from the back yard of the property.

Central air conditioning will be available for the inevitable heat wave during Tanglewood season. ( 1 room will have a window A/C)

We are dog friendly but will charge a small extra cleaning fee and a refundable pet deposit. Please let us know your pets details before you arrive. We discourage leaving your dog alone but if we are around we will consider dog sitting while you go to the theatre.

2 parking spaces are available next to the house, street parking available.

Why Ruth & Gareth chose Berkshires

The cottage is part of a 1792 built estate that was once owned by Norman Rockwell's great friend Doctor Donald Campbell. The Doctor and his family appear in many of Rockwell's paintings including the most famous Before the Shot that was actually painted in part of the main house that was used as the doctors surgery.

Stockbridge cottage excellent for 2 couples

  • 5 of 5

Gareth was the helpful host of this lovely cottage, within walking distance to the Red Lion and the shops in Stockbridge. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths making it excellent for 2 couples. Very comfortable and cozy for our autumn weekend in the Berkshires.

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three adults spent a delightful August week in Ruth and Gareth's charming cottage. We are seasoned Berkshire visitors and we've sampled a wide variety of accommodations over the years. For us, this place is clearly tops. There's plenty of space, lots of sunlight, and (in our case) there's serious central air conditioning for those days when it's muggy and warm.

The kitchen and baths have "all mod cons" and the entire place is so clean it feels almost brand new. Our hosts were readily available for consultation, but we were in fine shape almost every minute. It's a rare treat to be able to gaze at the beautiful view out the back window at the "Housatonic at Stockbridge," calm and still, just as it was more than a century ago when Charles Ives chose the spot for one of his "Three Places in New England."

Another wonderful two weeks!

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a lovely two weeks in Stockbridge in this wonderful cottage. We did the same thing last year and were eager to come back. THe house is so nicely updated and so comfortable. We never feel like we want for a thing and neither does our four-footed companion. And Ruth and Gareth, the owners are more than accommodating. We're already looking at next year's calendar!

The Enchanted Cottage

  • 5 of 5

That's what it is. Everything was perfect with the one exception of the rainy,

overcast days. But since all else was wonderful that's what we remember

about our stay. We had lived in this very same cottage, "The Campbell Cottage", owned by Dr. Campbell who lived in the big house next to it, 45 years ago and it was where we started our family. In the meantime, the

present owners have renovated the cottage beautifully. I look forward to

going back. Maybe even including our 45 year old twin sons and their

families. We six, and a little baby would perfectly fit. The stars say it all!
