Newly remodeled with Italian and Art Deco appointments, Bella Vista del Mare is a bluff top, ocean view, luxury vacation rental located on the Mesa in Santa Barbara. Elegant European styling and modern amenities come together to bring the glamour and gracious living of a past era to life for sophisticated travelers. This unique three bedroom, three bath single-story home sits on one-third of an acre. Picture windows and skylights throughout fill the clean, modern interior with natural light. With a spacious Living Room, Family Room, Den, and 2,800 square feet of total living space, there is ample room for six or seven guests. The house is fully stocked, and is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics and appliances. The entire property is gated, and because it is situated back from the bluff's edge, even the garden and terrace are sheltered from the windswept point where pelicans pass by. The garden is planted with native and Mediterranean plants that attract countless hummingbirds, butterflies and songbirds. With four chaise lounges and a hot tub overlooking the garden, the ocean view terrace is a quiet and lovely spot to unwind.
Near the Thousand Steps Beach access, and Shoreline Park with its sweeping ocean vistas, the property is close to both Leadbetter Beach and the Santa Barbara Harbor. It is ideally situated if you are looking for any of the many coastal sports and activities that Santa Barbara is known for. If you're staying on the Mesa, a two minute drive will take you to the wide variety of shops and restaurants that are located in the Mesa Business District. Heading toward downtown, a three minute drive will take you to the start of the Cabrillo Boulevard Tourist Corridor, and a five minute drive will take you to Sterns Wharf and the Dolphin Fountain at the bottom of State Street, which is the heart of Santa Barbara.
Each of the three bedrooms have their own bathroom, ample closet space, an alarm clock, a Sonos sound system, and a 'hotel' safe. The Master Bedroom has a king-sized bed, a workstation, flat screen TV, Sonos sound system, ocean and garden views, and an en suite bathroom. It is secluded at the back of the house, and has direct access to the hot tub. The Hallway Bedroom has a queen-sized bed, a Sonos sound system, ocean and garden views, and a tub in the adjoining bathroom. The North Bedroom has a king-sized bed, a flat screen TV, a Sonos sound system and a private entrance. It adjoins the Family Room, which has a flatscreen TV, Sonos sound system, wine fridge, microwave and wet bar area. All of our mattresses are organic and wonderfully comfortable. A Euro Lounger in the Family Room is available for a seventh guest. All three bathrooms have showers and are filled with Italian marble, ceramic tile, and modern Italian Art Deco chrome fixtures, as well as hardwood vanities and countertop stone washbowls. The Master and North Bathrooms are equipped with lighted vanity mirrors. The Hallway Bathroom has a tub and a view of the ocean. The interior is lit throughout with chrome and crystal sconces and a chandelier in the foyer.
A jetted hot tub off the Master Suite accommodates up to six people. It is situated on the south-facing flagstone terrace, which overlooks the garden and the ocean, and has four chaise lounges and a large, 'market' umbrella. The garden lies near the cliff's edge, yet it is fully enclosed. The outdoor dining area seats twelve, and has a gas grill. The adjoining lawn can be used for a game of badminton or croquet. Three classic Schwinn beach cruiser bicycles, two boogie boards, seven beach chairs, a cooler, a beach umbrella, and seven beach towels have also been provided. There is parking for three vehicles in the gated motor court and street parking is available across the street.
Inside, the home is equipped with state-of-the-art electronics for entertainment and security throughout. In addition to smoke and carbon dioxide detectors throughout the house, the fire alarm system is remotely monitored 24 hours a day. All of our TVs (46'- 60' in size) are 'smart,' all of our DVDs will accommodate HD and Blu-ray films, four of our satellite boxes have recording capability, and there is a small library of classic films available on DVD. We also provide high-speed internet throughout the house. It is controlled with an app on your smart phone. Three landline telephones are available to make local calls. Many board games and a small library of books are available, including several books on local attractions and Santa Barbara history. There are two workstations: one in the Den, and one in the Master Bedroom. The wireless printer-scanner-copier is in the Den.
For the health and comfort of our guests, the home is equipped with a whole house filtered water system and a soft water system. Additionally filtered drinking water is also available in the kitchen and in the wet bar area. Throughout the house, whenever possible, we select natural cleaning products that are hypoallergenic, free of harsh chemicals and additives, biodegradable, and not tested on animals. There are two conveniently located front-loading washers, and two dryers. We also provide an iron and two ironing boards.
The gourmet kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances, dramatic soapstone countertops, Italian marble floors, and newly installed dark-wood cabinetry. The appliances include a quiet, efficient Bosch dishwasher, two Electrolux ovens, a six-burner Dacor gas cook top with griddle, a GE Profile microwave, a stand alone Electrolux refrigerator and a stand alone Electrolux freezer. There is a full range of gourmet spices, condiments and other fine culinary basics. The dining room seats eight, and there is additional seating for three at the adjoining kitchen island. The outdoor dining area seats twelve.

We provide European down comforters (also in dust mite-resistant covers) and 100% cotton blankets. Our bedding comes from the Westin Hotel and the Vera Wang Collections. Each bathroom is equipped with a hairdryer, and we provide hypoallergenic body wash and moisturizing lotion.

I was a dreamer. The house was a dream. (See below)
Lauren Emma purchased this house in 2003
Why did I choose this property? Because of the gorgeous light on the Mesa. Because of the ever-changing seascape. Because of the spaciousness of the grounds. And because of the architectural charm of the home, which could be seen even in it's outdated original condition.
This house has a long and unique history. One day, perhaps, I will write the story. In the meantime, here are a few facts, and a few tales. The original house was built in 1926, and it was one of the first houses on the Mesa. In all accounts, the past owners appear to be a colorful collection of artists, rebels and innovative business people. It is said that every bird and animal in the Peacock Hallway was modeled on a particular person by the artist, who was one of the previous owners. The novelist who lived here once filled the grounds with gargoyles. The opera singer was known to rehearse on the terrace while taking in the sea. And the Master Bedroom once housed a graphic design studio. Bella Vista del Mare has always been a mecca for creative people, and it draws them here still.
We've rented many homes on both VRBO and Airbnb over the years and the key to a great stay is the owner. Lauren couldn't have been more welcoming(didn't hover while we checked out the house, but showed us everything we needed). The house is better than the site explains. We were in SB for a wedding, and most of the attendees stayed at the DoubleTree. They were all jealous! The fit, comfort, location and amenities couldn't have been better. If you're staying in SB, stay HERE!
Laura's rental house exceeded our expectations! It was spotlessly clean and everything was is great shape. She even provided extras, such as fresh fruit, an orchid, etc. The location is central to everything is Santa Barbara. You can walk to a cove or beach from the front door. The view is peaceful, with an ocean breeze and a hot tub to relax in! This is a well thought out operation, that is far above the standards of other houses I have rented. We were a very mixed group of 6 people and all of us enjoyed the place and were satisfied. We all would like to go back again.
This was the perfect Santa Barbara vacation home. It was a perfect location with easy walk down to the beach and parks. It was impeccably decorated yet comfortable and inviting. The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful the property is inside and out. The home, especially the kitchen, was well provisioned for anything you needed including cooking a special meal or entertaining a small group. We all totally enjoyed the special touches of fresh fruit in the refrigerator. The yard overlooks the ocean and is the perfect spot to have coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at the end of the day in the beautiful hot tub. Lauren is an incredible hostess. She provided information on best places to eat and shop as well as best wine tours. She was timely in all her responses from the initial property inquiry through check in and during our stay. Great Santa Barbara vacation experience.
the property was way better than the description. The property was very unique in that when the main gate was closed and locked, you didn't have to worry about anyone coming in the full length screened windows. The house was equipped with every gadget and appliance you can think of. My wife was in heaven with real cappuccino every morning. the place was spotless and very relaxing. the owner responded to texts immediately to answer any questions or clarify how to use the appliances. The kids couldn't get enough of the great hot tub. Can't say enough about it. I would recommend this property without reservation.
What a lovely property. Superbly stocked with everything you could possibly need & all high quality. There were 5 of us & we had plenty of room & felt very much at home. Would definitely recommend.
The house itself was built in 1927 and had been elegantly restored and appointed. Everything in the house is of top quality from the champagne glasses, to the cookware and a spice rack better stocked than ours at home. Lauren made us feel welcome and had some pleasant surprises waiting for us upon our arrival. The backyard is picturesque overlooking the ocean, well landscaped and hummingbirds flying around throughout the day. The hot tub is very nice as well. Finally the location could not have been more convenient for beaches, biking (three nice bikes in the garage), downtown and restaurants. We hope to come back again.
Steps away from the Thousand Steps Beach access and Shoreline Park with its sweeping ocean vistas, the property is close to both Leadbetter Beach and the Santa Barbara Harbor. It is ideally situated if you are looking for any of the many coastal sports and activities that Santa Barbara is known for. If you're staying on the Mesa, a two minute drive will take you to the wide variety of shops and restaurants that are located in the Mesa Business District.
