Overview

Photos and Description of this Victoria, Subd. A holiday chateau / country house

Country home with 4 Bedrooms (2 queen beds, 2 doubles) on a wooded private hill

The House On The Hill is located in Breton Cove, a tiny fishing community on the Cabot Trail. Hidden away in the woods with a 220 metre driveway, it affords total privacy. It is halfway between Baddeck and Ingonish, making it easy to access golf courses, museums, beaches, hiking trails, and the spectacular scenery of Cape Breton Island.

The Cape Breton Highlands National Park is only 30 minutes away, it has excellent beaches, and great hiking. Wildlife abounds in the park, but it is also present just outside the house. Moose, fox, eagles, and even the occasional black bear, are your neighbours. We ask that you refrain from feeding the wildlife and to remember that they are wild creatures living in the wilderness.

The house sits on a treed hillside with views of the ocean through the foliage. A spacious lawn provides a safe setting for children and barbecues. Little River Harbour is just down the road. Lobster and crab can be bought right off the boat during the seasons. Boating excursions for fishing, sightseeing, whale watching can be arranged locally. There is a swimming beach at Little Harbour popular with the locals and visitors alike. Close by are several artisan shops featuring works in glass, leather, and other mediums. Excellent pottery, iron works sculptures, funky hats, and pewter casts are some of the things you will find. Music is a big part of Cape Breton life and there are Ceilidhs to attend for toe tapping traditional fiddle tunes.

The house features a central atrium stairway with 4 bedrooms (2 Queen beds and 2 Double beds). there is a large 'sunroom' for relaxation and socializing, as well as an interior living room with televison. The open concept kitchen/dining area is large and well appointed with stove and oven, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, and eating and cooking utensils. There is a breakfast counter with seating, as well as a pine dining room table. A gas barbecue sits outside. WIFI, television, books, and games are there for your entertainment in the evenings and the occasional rainy day. The bathroom upstairs has a cast iron bathtub with shower. The lower bathroom has a shower as well as washing machine and dryer. The property has trails running from the house to the highlands behind it, several longer trails are in the area.

The master bedroom is quite large with a queen bed and a sitting area, ample closet space and dresser. The second bedroom also features a queen bed. There is a nook with a small desk and bookshelves and a hanging closet. The third bedroom is small with a sloped ceiling where the double bed is. It's cozy and cute, kids love it. The fourth bedroom is downstairs and also features a double bed. This room, at ground level, is large and pleasant, the bathroom is next to it which males it perfect for the handicapped. It also holds the water heather and water pressure tank.

The house has a terrace at the front, and a raised deck at the rear, with an additional terrace at the entrance to the sun room. There is ample parking.

This is strictly a NO SMOKING house. All cleaning products we use have NO SCENTS in consideration for those with allergies. NO PETS allowed for the same reason.

Smoking is only allowed outdoors.

About Nick Argento and Judy Lark

We are a retired couple who love sailing and travel. Breton Cove and the surrounding community has been our home since 1996.

Nick Argento and Judy Lark purchased this chateau / country house in 2003

Why Nick Argento and Judy Lark chose Nova Scotia

We chose this property because it is a well constructed house with passive solar and other environmental qualities. In addition it is situated in one of the friendliest and most socially varied communities in Cape Breton.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The house features a central atrium which gives it an open concept feel, yet there are numerous nooks and crannies to snuggle in.Original artwork adorn the house. Outside, the thyme lawns are surrounded by birch, spruce, and maples. The long gravel drive curves down to the world famous Cabot Trail. It is centrally located to Cabot Trail attractions and is nearly equidistant to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Baddeck.

This was a great place and perfect spot for Celtic Colours

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Nick and Judy's while in Cape Breton for Celtic Colours. It was a perfect house for us: several family members came together and there was plenty of space. We were in a great spot to be able to reach the various Celtic Colours events we wanted to without having to drive three or four hours from one end of Cape Breton to the other. The house itself was so comfortable, very clean, and Nick met us to show us everything when we arrived that night. There are some great restaurants near the house and easily available to the beach and various hiking trails. If we come back, we will certainly stay here again!

Met our needs

  • 5 of 5

Loved the intimacy and location of this home. All 5 of us (3 teenagers) enjoyed having enough space throughout the home. Location was perfect for activities planned (from LouisBourg to Meat Cove). Thank you for your hospitality!

very comfortable stay in a very quiet, peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

We had 5 people stay for 5 nights and were very comfortable with Nick's house. The 2 bathrooms were very convenient for us and the large kitchen and sitting area made for making meals very enjoyable. Would recommend this location to anyone. Thanks Nick for your great hospitality.

Very nice house, beautiful location, everything you need for a great vacation

  • 5 of 5

"The house on the hill" is a great place in Cape Breton to spent your vacation. We are a family from Germany and invited our Canadian friends to stay with us there. The house has everything you need for a great vacation:

#the location,

- small beach is in walking distance or you can do a short drive to Little River Wharf beach

- Ingonish (begin of national park, beach, golf course, hiking trails) or Baddeck (shopping, Alexander Graham Bell museum, etc.) are not far away

- since we love to hike, it was nice, that you can directly do small walks from the house into the wood

# the house

- beautiful "sun room" where you can relax, read a book or play some family games

- the kitchen is very well equipped, everything is there and we didn't miss anything

- rooms are spacious and the setup is nice

# the people

- Judy and Nick were very friendly, had a lot of hints and were helping to find some trails around or close to the house, since our daughter

didn't like long drives with the car

- Judy and Nick welcomed us with some fresh garden flowers, fresh bread and cookies from the "Clucking Hen". Provided mosquito spray,

which you really need :-)

- We were also recommended to get fresh lobster directly from the fishermen at the wharf. It was delicious.

We wlaked some hiking trails, relaxed at the beaches or at the house and also loved to use the BBQ.

We can definitely recommend this house to everyone. Not far away is also a general store (Wreck Cove) and close by also the "Dancing Moose" where you can get breakfast and more.
