About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

The Kirkwood cottage carriage house is located 4 blocks off i-630 - just minutes from the va med center, UAMS and children's hospitals, in the heart of the business, south main (SoMa) and river market districts. The carriage house is a good choice for business travelers or couples who want a romantic getaway and it is perfect to accommodate your extended stay guests. Pricing will depend upon length of stay.

A private entrance through the brick courtyard (doorbell at the privacy fence gate), hardwoods in living room, painted wood floors upstairs and the original brick floors in entry and kitchen. Updated features like wifi and two flat panel tv’s with direct tv, a whirlpool tub in the downstairs bathroom, another full bathroom upstairs, a full size washer and dryer, and quality mattresses in the two adjoining bedrooms ensure you the comfort you deserve.

The kitchen is furnished with a side by side refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, two coffee makers (12 cup and single cup) and self-cleaning oven. Dishes, silverware and utensils are included for your convenience, as well as thick, fluffy towels and linens. The enclosed courtyard has a small pond and a gas grill, should you want to cook or entertain outdoors. Automatic lighting means you never come home to a dark house.

The carriage house is located in the governor's mansion historic neighborhood and is great for walking or bike riding, with an active arts and entertainment district just 3 blocks away on south main. The river market is quite close as well, with many restaurants, bars, shopping, and the clinton presidential library. Walgreens, a grocery store and post office are just blocks away.

Why Donna Skulman-Loyd chose Downtown

We bought the historic Kirkwood Cottage (circa 1882) and its carriage barn initially because it was close to work. But the historic district is full of interesting people and always has something going on.

What makes this cottage unique

Large open space in the heart of the city - close to everything!

Adorable and charming!

  • 5 of 5

The carriage house is spacious, well equipped and well decorated. If you are not ok with uneven surfaces, this is not the place for you! However, the conversion from carriage house to home works great. Every amenity was in place, and the owners provide clear instructions to use all features. It’s in a beautiful historic area, and The Root cafe down the road was a delicious dinner spot. Beds were comfortable, Kitchen was stocked and our pet was welcome! We hope to come back and stay longer.

wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The best airbnb/vrbo experience I have ever had! Donna knew that we had a multi-day trip from PA to TX and so when we got to the carriage house she had beef stroganoff already prepared. We didn't even have to leave the carriage house in the morning to get breakfast as she also had that provided. It saved us so much time and was delicious. I would recommend her place to anyone! The carriage house itself is much larger than the pictures show. The beds were comfortable and the entire house felt like home. My dog loved the garden and loved going on walks around the area.

Friendly and Unique

  • 5 of 5

Our group loved staying here! From the beginning, Donna was so flexible, understanding, accommodating, and welcoming. The house more than exceeded our expectations. It was cozy, warm, and comfortable. There was ample furnishings, and afforded us plenty of space to spread out. Two bathrooms assured we were all able to get ready in a timely fashion. The home was well-stocked with everything we could need, including extra blankets and linens, coffee, water, and snacks. The house was full of character, and we loved learning of its history directly from Donna. The location of the property was perfect for us, located not far from downtown and many of the amenities we needed, as well as local historical places. We feel lucky to have found this gem and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!

homey period piece

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. It's comfortable, with plenty of room downstairs for entertaining.

It is well-stocked with provisions and accessories. It feels and looks authentically old (which it is), but has amenities of modern living. Plenty of privacy from outside world.

Donna is great, caring that all is well.

Amazing, clean and cozy property! Donna was AMAZING! Dynamic customer service!

  • 5 of 5

Donna was so accommodating and the Carriage House was clean and neat. We arrived there rather worn out due to a funeral and the space was just inviting and cozy. We loved the decor details and appreciated the time the owner put into making it feel like a home. By the time we left we felt refreshed and renewed. It was such a great value. We enjoyed relaxing with coffee and were even able to have food delivered to us there. The courtyard was so rejuvenating with the lighted fountain. The bedrooms/bathrooms were neat and clean. We are already planning on a second trip back. Thank you Donna!!!!

We are a small pet friendly place (owners have a Yorkie) so you never have to leave home without them and the carriage house even has a doggie door (a $25 non-refundable pet deposit per pet).
